Must See Monday: Lazy N Lucky

Lazy N Lucky is a beautiful dark bay mare that retired sound to our program in September 2024. She boasts a nice little race record that saw her in the money 4 of her 8 starts and her track connections describe her as good to handle and good to ride. We gave her a little bit of time off before putting a few rides on her, but so far we are inclined to agree with their assessment.

Standing 16.1h, this 2020 mare is cleared without limitation to go in any direction and could excel in any discipline.

The HART board has received a few inquiries regarding a new non-profit that has formed in eastern Iowa with similar name, image, likeness to our organization. While we welcome anyone who is working to provide better outcomes for horses in their post racing careers, and we acknowledge there is more than enough aftercare opportunities to go around, we wish to clarify that we are the official aftercare organization affiliated with Prairie Meadows Racetrack and are presently the only TAA accredited organization in Iowa.

Must See Monday: Aria Aperta

Aria Aperta is a pocket OTTB clocking in at just 15.3! We think everything about her is just adorable, including her 8 start racing career.

Aria Aperta entered our program mid summer with a small bow, but was given plenty of time off to recover and is now being lightly restarted under saddle. She has been easy so far and is enjoying a few rides with our ISU Hunt Team friends.

We think she would make a great fit for an adult amateur, a bold youth rider, or anyone working in a program with a trainer to continue her post track career.

She is cleared without restriction to go in any direction.

These non-riding gentleman both sport great ground manners but unfortunately due to injury and arthritis their riding days are behind them. They love attention and grooming and would make beautiful additions to any pasture.

Must See Monday: Makemeabeliever

Makemeabeliever is an RRP eligible 2021 model, who sticks right at 15.2. This handsome gelding has an easy going personality and great ground manners. He made two starts in his racing career and retired without injury. Makemeabeliever entered the HART program in July 2024 and enjoyed a little let down period before being brought in for a couple of rides with our Iowa State volunteers.

He is cleared to go in any direction without limitations.

Thanks Ladies! Had a visit from some of the ladies from Iowa State Equestrian Club - Western Team today to volunteer some time helping clean up some muddy ponies and around the barn! And we also always appreciate the gals from the Hunt team who come out to help work the horses! We and the horses absolutely appreciate the volunteers from the different Iowa State Equestrian clubs!❤️❤️

Must See Monday: Buddy Jack!

Buddy Jack is the cutest 2022 gelding. This adorable little dude came into the HART program after sustaining a knee injury during his training at Prairie Meadows. He had a successful knee surgery on July 11th (check out our post about it!) and after an uneventful rehabilitation has been cleared for a career without limitations.

Shown here under saddle with an adult amateur rider, this green baby is well behaved, loves attention, and is ready to be pointed in any direction.
