What is a fuzzy lop?
Some Holland Lop‘s carry a recessive gene to make something called a fuzzy lop. Basically, that rabbit has much longer fuzzier hair than the rest. Most Holland Lop‘s have fairly long hair, but not wool like an angora. Fuzzy lops are more prevalent with some breeding lines, but this is my first one ever! There’s nothing wrong with him. He just has a lot of hair lol the baby on the right is the fuzzy. The baby on the left is a regular so you can see the difference.

12/20/2023

Our goal at Amarillo Holland Lops is calm, friendly bunnies who are well exposed to the world and very adaptable. Watch this baby sniff her surroundings in the “ice-cream hold”. No trying to get away, so frantic scratching. Just a calm curious sweet baby bunny!

Hey everyone! Just a note, this is my love and my business. I am extremely devoted to breeding high quality rabbits that are healthy, social and make the best family pets. I put a lot of time and effort into this. If I text you that I have reached your name on the waitlist and have a baby bunny for you please respond! If you can’t take your bunny then or need more time or even changed your mind that’s fine! I just need a response. I have been ghosted too many times with this litter. Those further down on the waitlist may get babies sooner though!
Thanks!

Snuggly ball of baby bunnies today! Look at those tiny ears! All these are spoken for but there will be more this winter. Rabbits do better keeping their babies in the chilly weather rather than the heat.

Three litters due this week! Our lovely Bambi always pulls fur at least a week early so she can arrange her nest just how she wants it. Every piece of hay and fur are just so. Most mommas wait until right before they give birth but not our sweet Bambi.
Fur pulling is how they line their nests to keep their newborn babies warm. It hides the scent of birth to ward off predators, not that our queens need to worry about that but instinct rules out. It also allows access to the ni***es since the fur they pull is from their bellies. This is Bambi’s second and last litter for the year until next summer. Our does are only bred twice a year, dispite being able to produce up to 13 litters a year! This produces very healthy strong babies and happy mommas.

Meet Evie!
We’ve decided to keep this sweet girl to add to our breeding program. I chose to keep her for her outstanding personality, lusciously soft fur and lovely blue/grey color. She is a second generation from our rabbitry! Her momma was one of ours too! It’s exciting to see such loving rabbits being born from home grown does. Look for her first litter around May/ June of next year!

Available rabbits!
I have quite a few people, 3 to be exact, that are unable to pickup their baby bunny this weekend. If you are on the waitlist and are prepared for a bunny this weekend or early next week please contact me!
Thanks!
Please note: I totally understand that life happens and that’s 100% ok! I have been seeing an upward trend in people asking to be placed on the waitlist and either completely ghosting me or backing out right before pickups.
This business is a passion of mine, I love every single rabbit that goes out the door. I try very hard to make sure they all go to loving homes. Please please please be respectful of my hard work and only ask to be placed on the waitlist if you are sure you want a rabbit. Again, I very much understand when life happens and don’t want to be insensitive.
Thanks for understanding!

Let’s talk hay!

How much hay?
I often get the question “How much hay should my rabbit get each day?” Your rabbit should get a chunk of hay the size of their body every day. Now if you use hay as a bedding or in the litter box you will use more. But if you’re just feeding it, this is the correct amount.

Hay types:
There are several hay types that are acceptable to feed your rabbit, the best being Timothy. Timothy hay should also be the main ingredient in your rabbits pellet food. Another type is alfalfa. I like to call it “dessert hay”. My rabbits get Timothy hay 5 days a week and alfalfa 2 times a week. Too much alfalfa can cause issues with digestion. Other hay “blends” are ok as long as it’s primarily timothy.

Where to buy hay:
You can buy Timothy hay in the bags at the petstore but that can be expensive. In a large square bale you’re not always sure of the quality. My favorite way to buy Timothy hay is in the compressed bales from tractor supply. They are affordable and, as long as you have room for storage in a garage or somewhere else out of the weather, will last quite some time for one rabbit.

Such lovely color variety in this litter! Once your on the waitlist I will contact you when your baby is two weeks old. You get to choose your baby at 8 weeks old when you pick them up. Choosing goes in order of the waitlist. I DO NOT encourage families to buy for color. I stress choosing your rabbit based on temperament, just like you would with a dog or cat.

Let’s talk about responsible breeding:

All our breeding rabbits here are the best of the breed. We focus on health, long life, friendliness and calmness. We do not breed in the heat of the summer; no matter how long the waitlist is. Spring and fall litters allow our mammas to rest and recover. Each doe (female rabbit) has about 2 litters a year. In the wild it is possible for a rabbit to have 23 litters a year! We also feed the best foods and supplement with vitamins and nutrients through fresh veggies every week. Our bunny barn is clean and sanitized weekly as well as every rabbit being checked over thoroughly every week for injuries or illness. We also NEVER euthanize a rabbit when they are too old for breeding. They either stay with us inside the house and are pampered every day of retirement or we rehome them to a loving family. Our cages are also double the “standard” size for breeding rabbits and every rabbit gets outside “hop time” in our large, very secure, exercise yard.

If you choose to purchase from a breeder PLEASE be sure to ask questions. Rabbits are quick to breed and are only pregnant for 30 days so many people over breed their rabbits in poor conditions and without the proper nutrition to make a quick dollar. At Amarillo Holland Lops our breeding rabbits are part of the family. Our prices might be a bit higher but we provide lifetime support to our customers and work our hardest to educate and assist you when you bring home your new family member. Please be aware, when you purchase any animal, of where that animal is coming from.

Let’s talk about rabbit sleep!
Rabbits are funny creatures when it comes to sleeping. Some of them you will never see sleeping and others sleep all the time. They also do this funny thing I call the “rabbit flop” where they flop down on their side to sleep deeply. Very young rabbits and older rabbits do this. Blue here is 8 years old. He is the retired herd buck for us and one of the best rabbits I’ve ever owned. Many of his great great grandchildren are being sold this spring! He’s also very senior for a rabbit. He lives inside in comfort, retired from his breeding duties, and sleeps most of the day like this. Every time it gives me a little scare but he’s fine, just snoozing away. Who else has a photo of their rabbit sleeping?

05/23/2023

This baby has been claimed 😊

I will have ONE rabbit left from this litter ready to go Thursday due to unforeseen circumstances with the original family. If you have all your supplies ready and would like to welcome a bunny into your home this week please let me know. I will know exactly which one after everyone else chooses their baby today and Wednesday.

Let’s talk colors!
As an ethical, pet rabbit breeder, I do not breed for color, I breed for temperament and type. Type meaning I breed for the best possible show quality Rabbit that also has the best health and temperament. Since I do pet quality, I don’t focus as much on the exact standards of the breed, though I do try to follow them as much as I can. I gained some color in my breeding stock this year and have a lot more broken (spotted) rabbits available. When choosing your rabbit, you should choose based on temperament and gender, not color.

If you’ve been contacted about making your deposit, please do it today! It’s hard to make sure that I get to everyone in order on my waitlist if you don’t place your deposit.

Also, if you were on my waitlist and you are ready for a bunny in the next three weeks, please message me today. I have had several people drop off the list when I contact them and I have been very frustrated by it. I take my waitlist seriously, if you were on my list, you will get a rabbit. Please do not place yourself on the waitlist if you are not seriously interested in purchasing a rabbit.

If you’re on my waitlist, and I have not contacted you, but you are ready for a rabbit in the next three weeks please message me! Thank you.

Let’s talk about deposits! I take a 75 dollar deposit when I text you that I have a baby bunny ready for you. They are usually 2 weeks old at this point. This deposit help me know you are committed to your baby bunny. The other 100 is due upon pickup.

Running a business with animals is difficult, I care deeply for my rabbits and I want every single one to go to the perfect home. The deposit helps me make sure buyers are committed to their new family member. Thanks for understanding!

Adult rabbit for rehoming: please read entire description before messaging.

This is Puff! He is about 3 years old and so so sweet. He loves to sleep and cuddle and his favorite veggie is spinach. He was suppose to be for breeding but really has no interest in doing his “job” but we decided to keep him anyway. With the business growing I would like for Mr.Puff to go to a super loving home where he could get more attention and all the spinach he wants. If you are interested in Puff his rehoming fee is $50. You must be on the waitlist to adopt him. You must also prove (like send a picture) of your indoor hutch. Puff is not litter trained and likes wire bottomed cages best because he gets hot. If you are interested please message me! Thanks!

The Popcorn Stage: between 1.5 weeks and 3 weeks old I refer to the babies as “popcorn”. As you can see in this video they are extremely bouncy! Their eyes aren’t open yet but we get them used to the smell, sound and touch of a person. I am usually talking away when in the bunny barn to let them know I am there and to get them used to me speaking. Even a light touch at this stage will send them “popping”!

You can see they are exploring the nest box a little and aren’t as tightly snuggled in the back. Espescially in the warm weather they love to explore!
