Can I tell you about my friend, Crystal? She started riding with us this summer and it became clear she is a bucket filler. What is a bucket filler you might ask? A bucket filler is someone who is always giving and uplifting others. She encourages younger riders, she offers to share her gloves, she is always willing to help. Today, Crystal surprised me with a hand drawn card of Audra riding Esther and other beautifully drawn cards made for me. This card will never be mailed, I won’t be able to part with it! It is an honor to have these riders join me every day. I learn so much from my riders and my bucket is always full 💕. Crystal, you are not only a talented artist but a beautiful soul, thanks for being part of Dizzy Jay’s family! If you are looking for absolute 1 of a kind hand drawn cards, Crystal’s your girl!

We’d love to hear what your horse and riding goals are for 2025. Feel free to share them in the comments. These can be goals with your own horse, a Dizzy Jay horse, or even your upcoming horse dreams 😊. Buttercup’s goal for 2025 is more snuggle time! Burton’s goal is to ride Scotchy. Audra’s goal is to go on a cruise 🤪. Danae’s goal is program expansion which we will break down further in a soon coming post 😊

Did you know your brain cannot process anxiety and gratitude at the same time? If you are actively thinking of what you are grateful for, it will override anxious thoughts. As we make our plans for 2025 and pursue them, I have definitely felt anxious. There are so many amazing projects coming up and I want all of them to succeed. So this morning when I woke up, I made chamomile tea and opened my gratitude journal. After a few minutes remembering all the great things that happened this week, the flutter in my heart started to still and now I feel ready to be present for our family day! Big dreams are awesome; we just can’t lose sight of all the amazing opportunities and blessings that have brought us here. So let’s be grateful like Burt who was finally tall enough to ride go-carts and play laser tag, instead of sweating the big or little stuff 😊. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Horse Ted Talk: when I first met Bobart, I was smitten. My heart ached when I left the camp and wasn’t sure what would happen to him. When the head horse wrangler contacted me to tell me they’d sent him back to his owner because he wasn’t fit for the program I was sick! I knew what would likely happen to a horse who started in the slaughter pipeline and failed immediately upon his first placement. His previous owner told me he wasn’t a horse he would keep any longer. So I approached my patient husband and pleaded my case. This horse is important to me, and I know he’s not going to find someone else who sees his scared eyes as anything other than crazy. Ever the practical one, my husband asked me if this horse would truly benefit our program. We are running a business and my continual soft spot for the underdog could be harmful to our bottom line. I told Zach, I definitely think he’ll benefit our program, but I KNOW he will benefit me! That settled it, and Bobart was delivered a week later. A $700 purchase with skin draped over painfully evident bones. He was flighty, pushy, but soo loving. Bobart arrived July 5th. Fast forward to yesterday when he has received so much love and thousands of pounds of food. I hopped on him ba****ck and rode around the arena on the quietest beauty! Do you want to know my training secret? How I whipped him into shape? I LET HIM BE A HORSE. I cared for his basic needs while establishing trust, we were gentle and kind. And 90% of his behavioral issues have resolved on their own. In this rushed culture of horse world often trainers are hurried to establish dominance over trust, disregarding cues a horse gives. They may be pain cues, confusion, etc. our primary objective at Dizzy Jay Farm is establishing rapport and a positive working relationship with any creature in our care. And when I say it benefits me, it truly does. As I was trying to take Bo’s picture yesterday he kept following me around the arena getting too close for a perfect picture. The standoffish horse has become the biggest lover and I know he will be a huge benefit to all our patrons 💜. End of my lengthy TED talk.

Guys and gals it’s no secret that we always have the best workers! Zach teases me when I routinely talk about how I want to keep all our workers forever! The fabulous Miss Olivia is no exception. When operating a farm and having several animals whose well-being depends on you, it is rare that we leave for a vacation. We just returned from a 3 day vacation and my husband commented on the fact that I didn’t cling to my phone the whole time we were at the waterpark. I had absolute confidence in this talented and efficient young woman. If you’ve met her you know she is kind and patient, if she’s worked for you, you know things will be done to a highest level of performance. Olivia isn’t on Facebook but if you see her in person make sure to remind her, she’s pretty awesome 💕. We’re thrilled to have her as part of our top-notch staff!
