Clearly this is not our salon, and the group title rings so ironic to us. That said.... the sentiment is clear to the clients, not to come before being contacted. While all chuckles in the grooming community as this one is shared.... I did think at some point "do my clients know why"?

For those wanting clarification, why this policy is one that is so strict let me give you some insight.

You are beloved mom, dad, big human protector, feeder of yummy things, and you represent all the things of comfort to that pet. You are one giant billboard with bright blinky lights.

When you walk into a pet salon (no matter the species being worked on), it's almost always a dead given that your pet will be super distracted, want to get back to you and if we aren't finished.... well, that's a recipe for disaster.

We have to to either risk injuring a now super restless wiggly pet to try and wrap up... or we now have to take the time to resettle that animal down for another solid 15min and get the swing of what we are doing together as a team.

Grooming is cooperative care, you and the pet are a team, the groomer is working with that pet through a practiced routine. When one party is no longer willing to work through that routine because "nom nom gifter" is suddenly here.... well, there goes the groom.

Sweet, playful, smart pup! She's a dog that loves pets and snuggles with humans. Doesn't always want to be right on your lap, but does like laying on the couch beside or near you. Loves running laps around other dogs, we call her the mini rocket as she is very quick! She is the queen of the house and knows it. lol

Yes- fully! She had one accident in the house due to us not knowing her cues and reading her correctly, this was literally within 48 hours of her arrival.

None

Yes- Can be left for several hours without any issues. She does pant when left kenneled while people are present in the room with her. Settles nicely when no humans are there. She isn't whining to get out, but pants in a sort of nervous excitement to get to you. We kennel overnight and any time we can not supervise dogs in our home, so she is used to this routine.

Yes, she does pretty well, we are working on looser leash protocols, but she does well just likes to be on the furthest reach of the leash end, easily corrects or redirects when asked.

Treats, play, pets and excitement, she really works to please and enjoys mental stimulation of being engaged. Anything as a reward she responds well to. High value treats like cheese and freeze dried chicken are her fav!

๐ƒ๐จ๐  ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž: I would say yes, with an easy correction. She mostly bark alerts to other dogs and if in small spaces she will growl or snap towards other dogs in her space. On walks she's alert to other dogs present, but can be redirected. In a home or salon setting she can be somewhat guarded. She does however play well with dogs that she gets used to. When watching pups in our home the first day is tense and requires diligent supervision, but literally within 48 hours she settles in nicely and doesn't target dogs. Can get possessive of a chuck it ball when all dogs are chasing after it. But otherwise, does ok once settled.

No, she has been raised in a multi cat home.

๐‚๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐/๐Š๐ข๐ ๐š๐ ๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž: No, she adores children. She relishes snuggles with our 11 yr old and plays well with the 7yr old, younger kids 0-6 have also visited and she was very good with all ages. Seems intuitive towards little ones.

No, she loves all the humans! lol

No, she doesn't even mind the vacuum.

A dream for travel, loads and unloads on her own on the "load up" command. Settles nicely, have not done a longer road trip with her but would guess she'd do fine.

While being fostered we have noted that if left unattended and items are left out, she will investigate them and can chew. She is far more likely to sniff out uncovered trashcans, food items then chew items up. She leaves clothing or kids toys alone when given the opportunity to lay by you or a dog appropriate chew toy or chew treat. I would say an age appropriate level of interest in chewing, not an abnormal amount for a dog in general. I would say a normal amount of young dog whos really nearly out of the chew phase completely, and would just need to know the house rules. ;) She loves mild softer chew items like jerky or beef sticks, not a huge bone fan.

๐Ÿ• She could easily be a solo pup or with a couple other dogs, after transitioning time. Easily fine with cats.

๐ŸšธIdeally an adopter who will have an active presence in her life. As it would not be her preference to be in a kennel, and would prefer to be sleeping with you and not in a kennel. lol

๐ŸŠ Fenced in yard would be great but not a requirement, she does have a strong recall and enjoys being close by.

Would love if this girl could stay local to Ames IA, as we would love to have occasional play dates and keep up to date with her.

Well... You guessed it! I borrowed more dogs!!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Keeping it super spicy and added two back in, we are watching the Kobe's and little Lulu again. A fantastic test for Lylah and how she behaves around other puppers.

After a few squabbles, lots of intentional redirecting and a whole lot of pup snuggles. Thankfully everybody kenneled nicely for the evening. ๐Ÿฅฐ

This was this morning's 7am play time for me!

I dote on Grimm occasionally, not super often but occasionally he really shines and I want to gush over him. It's pretty rare I get video footage of us working together, as I'm nearly always alone with him.

This is Thanksgiving Day, Justin came along and filmed for me. He did so amazingly well. I really wish people understood the volume of training that goes behind this moment, which appears to be simple together, when it's really a super complex moment. I'm so grateful for this boy!

Many dogs would struggle with this big of an ask:

๐‹๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ก ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ž๐: Yes, we are still working on manners on the leash, but he isn't an active puller. With frequent treat reinforcement he has a decent heel started.

๐ŸŽ‰ HAPPY ADOPTION POST!!! ๐ŸŽ‰

Dexter, (formerly Tank) has found a fantastic home locally! This sweet boy was a dynamic fit with some of the biggest friends available to him! Along with people friends, he definitely settled in nicely with his two big gentle giant brothers. They are both ready and willing to let him play, snuggle, and just be a puppy right with them! Size makes absolutely no difference to him, he'll get his snuggles one way or another!

Happy adoption Dexter! Congrats to the family on their new fur friend!

*********************NOTICE***************************
Dear Clientele,

It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that I bring you news of Jazzy Grooms discontinuing. As many of you know last April we opened a cat exclusive facility in hopes of splitting my time between the two businesses. The great news is that Suite Whiskers has become a beautiful success and is flourishing with activity. The bummer news is that is coming at the cost of my time, and less and less availability towards Jazzy Grooms. While this has initially worked, it has become nearly impossible for me to continue and still be able to maintain a healthy work/life balance.

Since many of you know that going cat exclusive has been my dream for a long time, I know this notification wonโ€™t come as a shock to you, but itโ€™s still hard to say non-the-less. In an effort to not just drop you guys off completely and make sure your taken care of, Iโ€™m trying to give you advance notice. So this will take place as of September 1st, 2019. If you need in for a final groom, please text or call and weโ€™ll get you squared away with a fresh bath/trim and a final goodbye.

It has truly been my pleasure and I have deeply enjoyed grooming dogs here in Ames and will miss the dogs tremendously. I pray that each of them find a good groomer who will handle them with as much care and gentleness as I have poured into them. If you need another recommendation for a groomer, please donโ€™t hesitate to ask and Iโ€™ll do my best to forward you to an appropriate facility for your dogs specific temperament as well as any hair cut details you might want for your next stylist.

I am tremendously excited to continue offering cat grooming services here in Ames (Suite Whiskers) and welcome each of you to come to the new cat shop for a tour and to check out all the work weโ€™ve been doing here.

Best of wishes,
Jazzy

PS- If you have NOT received this same message via snail mail with your specific recommendations in it, then please message me for further information and I'll make sure your taken care of!

I'm taking the next couple of days off from dog grooming. I am busy with a personal move as well as we just put our family dog down today. So my mind and heart are overwhelmed with the load as well as feeling a bit heavy and I appreciate those of you who have shown understanding.

Have a wonderful 4th of July everyone. I'll resume dog grooming after the holiday. Remain safe and snuggle your fur babies tight, extra treats for sure.

-xoxo
Jazzy

Today was a good day of grooming, with some awesome loyal clientsโ€ฆ. But I had to take off early today to go help my sisters put down our family dog.

And while he wasnโ€™t a cat, the love there is still great.

Makes me want to do a quick shout out to all those who have put the needs of their beloved animals above their own emotions and helped them out in a way that is honorable and gives them some dignity and peace in the end. PLEASE stay with your pets until the end, they need youโ€ฆ. and know that it is ok to be there with them and let them go. AND it's ok to grieve that loss!

Thankfully Roland Vet was absolutely amazing today and helped out in every way they could. So a big shout out to them, they work very well with us professionally and now on a personal level as well. So thank you.

Losing pets is hard, canine- feline, rodent, reptile, it doesnโ€™t matter the species. They truly are an emotional investment of our hearts and a tangible representation of love in one of its greatest forms.

So to all those who have lost a pet, Suite Whiskers is lighting a candle for you tonight.

I was going to do a video- but Iโ€™m a blubbering mess, so you wonโ€™t find me in photo form this evening.

Gods speed over the rainbow bridge Cocoa.

Cuddle the one's you still have, every moment is precious!

Ok I swear I did focus and finish the groom. Lol

Public announcement and honesty policy!

You guys, I've just had another groomer friend tell me a new client blatantly lied on their check in form that the dog has never bit a groomer/vet in the face. And intentionally omitted that information because the client wanted the groomer to still do the dog. Despite that the dog had attacked the groomer in the face. And yet another groomer who had the same thing happen just yesterday so that the ''groomer wouldn't be biased and use a muzzle''. There is a rise in several groomers reporting this behavior.

People PLEASE for my own safety and all groomers safety know that most of the time we will still take the dog if we know it has a bite history, we simply know HOW to better protect ourselves when approaching a dog like this. It's not only disrespectful but downright dangerous for anyone to knowingly omit this information.

I take jerk dogs, a lot of them actually, and quite often. And yes they bite! But this is also something I KNOW IN ADVANCE and the owners are very clear with me. I do NOT like dishonesty in my practice. That goes for me telling you how the dog behaves honestly, and that should also apply to the client (you guys).

To new clients or those tempted to omit information critical to my safety... please note that I have no hesitation about dismissing a client who is dishonest and will not respect my safety. I have children to tuck in at night and do not need a traumatic injury keeping me out of work for 6+ weeks... I have bills to pay and kids to feed.

** I have many many wonderful clients, and to those of you who have been honest with me and let me work it out with you, your dog, and my safety- I PERSONALLY THANK YOU! Thank you for respecting me enough to help keep me safe will serving you to the best of my talents ability.**
