Look into my eyes...plan a zoo visit soon! The Alaska Zoo is open again after two days of wild weather and trail work. We appreciate our facilities crew - they work hard to get the zoo back to safe operations for the public after storms. We are resuming normal hours, daily 10am-4pm at this time of year. Be sure to add the weekend of January 31-February 2 to your calendar for the next opening of Zoo Lights, 5-8pm on those evenings. Visit https://www.alaskazoo.org for all zoo info. The Alaska Zoo will remain closed to the public today due to the power being out. We had a few trees down around the zoo as well, so our crews will continue to clean up and work on trails. We anticipate returning to normal operations tomorrow, so please check our status in the morning. Thank you and stay safe!

We are sad to announce the passing of Tony, a male lynx who came to the zoo as an orphan from the Palmer area back in 2007. He was found orphaned along a roadside and brought by biologists to the zoo. He arrived in fragile health and our dedicated animal team nursed him to health. He lived a long life with us, 17 years. He passed away peacefully in his sleep overnight. We will cherish our time and memories with him over the years. ❤️💔 📸 John Gomes (young Tony photos) and Zookeepers Jenn and Erica.

The Alaska Zoo is open for business today with our weekly Storytime sponsored by ConocoPhillips at 10:30am in the Gateway Hall and a free lecture this evening by the Alaska SeaLife Center in the Gateway Hall at 7pm on the topic of their 26 years of marine mammal rehabilitation. Don't miss these free programs at the zoo! We will resume regular admissions today after being closed due to icy conditions. Please use caution and prepare yourself (and footwear) for possible areas of ice. Our crews are graveling and sanding as we speak! Photo by John Gomes.

50 Years of Service to Alaska’s Wildlife

So many things have changed at the Alaska Zoo over the past 50 years. With all of these changes, the core mission has remained the same. We have helped to rescue, care for, house and rehome thousands of animals in need from Alaska’s wilds. Many are orphaned, others are injured and some arrived here as animals in need of homes from other facilities. We are proud of our mission and look forward to continuing for future generations. If you are interested in supporting our work, visit our Support Options page for a variety of ways you can offer your time, talents or donations. We would not be who we are today without the support of Alaskans and visitors to the Last Frontier. We are Alaska’s only zoo and we take great pride in our growth and services we offer to all visitors. Check out our Education programs and Calendar of Events to learn about zoo opportunities.
