At Howling Peaks we focus on providing a safe, enriching environment for your dog's daycare or boarding stay. Using positive, science-based methods we help dogs and their people understand each other and develop mutual trust and respect for a lifetime of companionship. I, Holly Tedor CPDT-KA, am the owner and trainer behind Howling Peaks. I have a lifetime of experience with dogs and began my prof

essional training career in 2015. I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, The Pet Professional Guild, Certified as a Professional Dog Trainer through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers and I participate in opportunities for continuing education.

Dogs have the ability to be the heart and soul of their surroundings with such little effort. Dogs provide a love that is so pure without any hidden expectations, they show love even to those who are not deserving. A dogs existence simply provides us pure dopamine especially through the long Alaskan winters. Our Howling Peaks team is beyond blessed to have the privilege to be loved and surrounded by all of these pure souls. The abundance joy we receive walking into a group of dogs accompanied by the occasional bruises of excitement. The way we each get greeted at the door over and over again. To us they are way more than just dogs. They are loved ones, they are family members.

LUNA: (she with many pictures because that face is too cute to boot!)
She is said to be a Great Pyrenees mix. She is a 2 year old female scheduled to be spayed next week. She is initially a little introverted, but sweet as can be. Once she warms up (which takes about .5 seconds) she will be by your side forever. She gets along with dogs of all sizes and cats so far and is great on leash. If you want your ride or die with fluffy ears this girl is calling you. She is available through The Michael Movement apply on their website. MAUD:
Maud is a very healthy, fit, spayed female, 10 years old. She is a multiple Iditarod finisher looking to explore the trails with you and come home to your couch. She is sweet as can be, mellow and very chill. She does great with other dogs and would probably enjoy canine companionship in her forever home. Apply for Maud through The August Fund

This is my boy Rolo. Rolo used to be incredibly reactive. He would bark/lunge at almost everything (bikes, cars, people, kids) but his ultimately kryptonite was other dogs. No matter where they were, if he saw them he lost his mind. His response was a pretty typical fear response after a bad history with other dogs. We have spent a lot of time managing encounters and setting up scenarios to safely desensitize and counter-condition his response to dogs. This was Rolo today. While this looks like nothing... this is everything! Rolo walked on the sidewalk while two dogs across the street rushed a fence and barked at him. Previously he would have launched off the sidewalk into the road trying to get to them in a frenzy. Today, while he is at the higher end of his threshold (notice his slight tension and raised hackles), he chose to ignore. He chose to continue on and even turned in the opposite direction to move away from the other dogs! No barking, no lunging. Look at the sweet moment he turns to me then briefly glances toward the dogs then right back to me <3 Love this boy. Not even nap time! Itā€™s so important to regulate activity in the groups. We schedule nap time twice a day and, in addition to that, we make sure the groups are resting and taking breaks. They play when itā€™s time to play (if youā€™ve watched our lobby cameras youā€™ve seen it), but itā€™s also important that dogs learn to regulate. Non-stop activity all day is not healthy nor safe. In AP Class at Fireweed today, pups explored new obstacles and experienced sensory enrichment! Our AP class is offered weekly as an add-on to daycare or boarding. Buckle up! This is a long one, but so near and dear to my heartā¤ļø Holly here! We post a lot of our boarding and daycare dogs, but we havenā€™t touched on training much lately which is a HUGE part of what we do! Positive, science-based training is what Howling Peaks was built on and it is still the core of my passion. We have expanded services and grown a LOT these past 2 years, but positive, science based training will always be a fundamental aspect of what we do. I have to share this amazing update from a long time client of mineā€¦ her wonderful dog, Bowen, first started working with me because she had zero recall. She was way too distracted and couldnā€™t be off leash. As I got to know her mom and her, we also began addressing her dog reactivity. They are big outdoor enthusiasts, so recall and coping with other dogsā€™ presence was very important to them. Fast forward to this BEAUTIFUL video update of Bowen on the trail, off leash, checking in with her mom while on the tail of another hiker/dog. So proud of you Emily! This was done with ZERO intimidation, ZERO punishment and ZERO aversive tools. This was achieved by learning body language, meeting Bowenā€™s needs, going at her pace, building a relationship based on trust and communication and rewarding, rewarding, rewarding! All the credit goes to Emily for putting in the hard work and the results paid off. This folks, is why I take positive, science-based training so seriously. This is why our expanded services of daycare and boarding also abide by this philosophy. No fear, no pain. If you are interested in training, we offer private sessions and group classes!
