Merry Christmas from RGK and our family. We are truly blessed with the best clients, friends and family….its been a challenging year. But with determination and the support of all the people mentioned above we couldn’t have gotten it done….so Merry Christmas everyone…we ALL look forward to a new year/chapter. Please help bring this baby home! A lady just called and said she spotted a dog on the Harnett county /Lee line near sheriff Watson road. He has a collar and possibly a gps collar or e collar for underground fence. Please call 910-514-6059 if you recognize this boy. His name is chief e believe and he is a male GSP.

Copied from another post, thought this was great advice for any new dogs coming in for training!

Just got a dog in for training yesterday, and the only question the owner asked before leaving was "will he miss me." That question makes sense in the context of this dog having severe and debilitating anxiety.

It makes sense because this 1 year old dog only got this way because he was "spoiled" to an extreme degree. He only got this way because he was not socialized properly as a puppy, and treated like a baby his whole life.

He likely won't eat for days and days and days because he's too nervous and scared. He likely won't attempt to bond with me on his own accord because he's too busy trying to find an escape route. He will more than likely have diarrhea and bad digestive issues because of his stress levels.

He won't sleep well at night or rest during the day because he's in fight or flight mode. He's too afraid to play with the other dogs because he didn't grow up seeing other dogs.

All of these issues at 1 year old. He has a long life to live, and he will likely never become the happy go lucky dog he could have been. He can certainly get better, but much of the damage is already done.

This is the reality of "spoiling" your dog to the highest of degrees, and not socializing them when they are young. This is what happens when we indulge ourselves and treat our dogs in the ways that make us happy, without thinking of the long term impact on the dog.

The owners are very nice people. They are caring and compassionate dog owners. But, in treating this dog like a baby, they have stripped away what makes him a dog.

Instead of asking "will he miss me," we should be asking "how do you think he will handle this." Take the focus and attention off of us, and direct it towards the dog.
