Hi, welcome to my new page! I just want to provide a quick overview, to give you an idea of what Alfresco Horsemanship means.
To put it simply, I do all of my training without the boundaries of an arena or corral. Every horse that I have started personally has been developed using this method, and after seeing the amazing difference it makes, I could never go back to starting in an arena. This isn’t to say that there isnt a place for arena riding! Whenever it’s time to show off our training and capabilities, we will enter a show ring to provide a controlled environment for a judge.
The arena is, however, the last place we go!
I have found that by starting my horses out in the field and training in different environments, they become incredibly confident and trustworthy mounts. They also develop a much deeper trust for their rider, as we do a lot of practice far out of sight of their herd or familiar surroundings. We are constantly in different places, whether it be a new flat field, mountain trail, or roadside. We may even join an occasional parade.
While my personal specialty is Hunter Under Saddle, I have a respect for all disciplines! I have ridden Western Pleasure, Dressage, and thrown a few ropes. I am glad to do my starting with your end goal for your horse in mind!
When you have a horse who is used to tuning in and following your cues in any environment, demonstrating your training in the arena is a piece of cake. All horses can benefit from this style of riding; from the young horse building it’s confidence to the older horse needing a refresher!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I would love to discuss what Alfresco training could do for you and your partner.
