We were contacted last night to help this 6-month-old kitten, Luna, who had a litter of kittens 8 days ago. Luna was a stray and was taken in by her current owner, Cheryl. Cheryl sent us this video of Luna, who has a very significant open wound on her belly. She rejected her babies as they were clearly inducing more pain for Luna and she was unable to nurse, so Cheryl has been bottle feeding the babies. There is a high probability they won't survive but they are currently thriving.
Because Cheryl had no money to pay for vet care and was unable to get Care Credit, our Cause for Compassion funds were used. And because it was the weekend and all vet clinics are closed, we sent her to VCA Animal Hospital Emergency Vet in Fishers. Luna had a very high fever and despite the visual appearance of her condition she was walking and seeking affection from all. The amazing team at VCA treated her very quickly and we were told she had two ruptured mammary glands that abscessed, open on the chest/abdomen. She was given fluids, Clavamox and oral buprenorphine, and was sent home early this morning.
The bill at VCA was just under $500 and thankfully, VCA gives rescues a discount, which we are very grateful to receive. Luna is one of 20 kittens/cats at Cheryl's home that is not spayed. Since Cheryl has no to little money, Ambassadors for God's Creatures will be helping her all get the cats spayed/neutered. We were told in an earlier post by an animal advocate that we should call animal control and take animals from such "neglectful owners", however, this is not a viable option, nor is it warranted. If Cheryl wants to surrender the kittens/cats to the local city shelter, she can do so, however this will only add a huge burden to the already overcrowded shelter and the likelihood of the kittens getting sick in the shelter is highly probable.
The best course of action that we know to take is helping Cheryl get all the cats fully vetted, and help her to find h
Max is doing well with his recovery!! We are still in need of someone to adopt this sweet boy!! Kylie Pope
We are excited to report that Max had his rear right leg amputated yesterday and after being closely monitored overnight he was discharged this afternoon!! The doctor said he did amazing and as you can see by the video, he is already adapting well as a three-legged dog!! Look at that crazy tail wagging!!
Max is up for adoption through Ambassadors. He will need a quiet home with smaller dogs or cats, and with someone who has experience caring for special needs dogs. Please let us know if you are interested in adopting Max!!
