I started practicing in Massage Therapy in December of 2011. I had two main goals with my license; to start my own practice and to become Certified for Equine Massage. After 10 yrs, I have finally accomplished both! Most wonder how massage therapy can be beneficial for horses and I then say, the same way it is beneficial for people! Horses and people have an extremely similar anatomy; the muscles
are named the same, located roughly in the same ares of the body and affects the body as a whole. Horses, like people, are asked to do jobs that they weren’t necessarily designed to do or they asked to do the job repetitively which over time can create imbalances in the body. Injuries also occur, which can cause muscular issues. The muscles begin to compensate and become less able to do their job or cause pain during movement. Wonder why we sometimes have a horse with “bad behavior”? It’s quite possible that it’s not “bad behavior” at all. Horses can’t tell us. that something’s hurts but they can and will show us. Thank you for the time to check out my page. If you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment, I encourage you to reach out via phone or Facebook messenger. FAQs
Do you travel to me or do I come to you? It is a lot easier for me to travel to your horse than for your horse to come to me. I do charge a small travel fee for any appointments located outside of 20 miles from my location. Will you come to my home or just travel to big barns. I will do both. I will travel to a private residence and to barns. Do I have to be home? For the initial visit, yes. I will have questions and documentation for the owner to answer and complete. For future visits, it is not a requirement for the owner to there. In several cases, we schedule the appointment, a halter and lead rope are left accessible and am able to get the horse out and do my work. I may ask for the owner to be present through an appointment mid or post treatment plan to discuss progress or do an evaluation. Do you carry Insurance? Yes, I hold my own business liability insurance. What are your fees? My fees are standard massage rates. I charge $70 an hour. Most appointments range from 60-120 minutes. Horses are a lot bigger than people and can take longer to complete the work. Travel fees for anyone for than 20 miles away are $20. How often should I have massage done on my horses? That is dependent on the horse and the issues they are having. Treatment plans may start with more frequent work but, usually, spread out over time fairly quick. It is a great idea to have monthly maintenance done, especially if the horse is worked frequently.
