Teamwork is the secret that makes common people achieve uncommon results - Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha

Jan-Care Ambulance & General EMS Paramedic & Ansted Firefighter Charles Critchley with EMT partner Cody Booth; along with Pax Fire Department responded to a patient in need.

Patient was located on a steep ATV trail. Fayette County Vertical Rescue Team was activated for manpower and low angle extraction. Patient was assessed, treated, packaged, placed in liter basket. Patient was lowered to ATV with a Medbed. Medbed to ambulance.
Air Evac crew departed aircraft came to the scene. Loaded ambulance transported patient to aircraft.

The teamwork, determination and commitment to the citizens of Fayette County is the driving force for our training, time and effort.
Sincere prayers for a speedy recovery.

At 2330 September 21, 2024
Fayette County Vertical Rescue was toned for ATV accident with entrapment. Vehicle was located in a very remote area only accessible by ATV’s. When you take into consideration access and entrapment; this can complicate outcomes. Members of Ansted, Fayetteville, Oak Hill, Nuttall, Pax and Danese fire departments responded.
Equipped with: chainsaws, portable battery operated extrication tools, rope gear, medical equipment the team deployed.
The patient was in a remote ravine with his extremity entrapped under the weight of the vehicle.
Patient care was initiated to calm and stabilize the patient for the series of events that needed to happen to safely evacuate him to care.
The vehicle was stabilized from above; extrication tools lifted the machine, extremity was freed. The roof of ATV was removed to give access for extraction. Patient was immobilized, placed in a liter and with the use of mechanical advantage and a rope system; safely raised to the rail grade to an awaiting med bed.
Patient was packaged for the rugged extract out over rough terrain. ATV outfitted with Med Bed began the tough mitigation of an ATV trail that led to an-awaiting ambulance. ATV wenched to another ATV for leverage is what it took on multiple rock benches to progress the patient to extract.
Patient care was turned over to very cable EMS members; Jake Stevens and Billy Blankenship from Jan-Care.

From activated tones to extrication complete was one hour and 5 minutes.
The committment to training, mutual aid and cooperation of all involved is appreciated.

Folks, be careful driving today. After a long, hot spell, the first good rain causes oils to leech out of the pavement. This makes the road slick as ice for a good while, until the rain can wash it off. Please take your time and be safe.

This year for Gauley Season, YOUR Ansted Fire Dept, in conjunction with the National Park Service is providing on-site medical care and technical rescue to the folks that shoot one of the best whitewater rivers in the world. Historically, if there is an injury or accident on the river, the guides radio their base and request 911 services. 911 takes the call and dispatches rescue and EMS. Typically a response to the Gauley River access areas takes us approximately 25 minutes to get there. In life-and-death situations, seconds count. It was decided that we would be pre-deployed to the area for immediate aid in case of an incident. Staffed with EMTs and Paramedics, Swiftwater and Rope Rescue Technicians, and equipped with the most advanced swiftwater, rope rescue, and emergency medical gear (like the LUCAS automatic CPR device and AEDs). Our teams can handle any situation, medical or trauma, and have our Special Ops 11, Polaris Ranger that functions as a wilderness rescue ambulance to transport any victims to an awaiting 911 EMS unit or aeromedical helicopter.

Today Chief Mike Gray, Lt/CCP-C Joel Feltner, and FF Eric Cameron were the crew on standby. By God's grace, there were no injuries and we were just spectators. Gauley Season runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the next few weekends.

This morning, YOUR Ansted Firefighters responded to the top of Gauley Mountain on Rt. 60 to assist our brothers from Gauley Bridge on a vehicle fire. Units arrived on scene to find a fully-involved BMW. Rescue 114 responded with 3 Firefighters under the command of Capt. Sears. Gauley Bridge responded with Tower 80 and Engine 85. This was a stubborn fire but good teamwork and some high-expansion foam snuffed it out. Thank you to Sheriff Morris, Jan Care, and Logan's Towing foe the assist.

During a house fire, human victims aren't the only ones affected. We have saved many pets. From dogs and cats to rabbits and even rats. YOUR Ansted Fire Dept. has saved a lot of "fur babies". Whenever we care for pets that have smoke inhalation, we have always had to take the time and modify human oxygen masks to fit them. This week, YOUR Ansted Fire Dept received a generous donation from the "Mona Pants Foundation". We took delivery of several, "Pet Oxygen Mask" kits. Each kit has a small, medium, and large mask with tubing. A kit will be on each of our units and will give us spares as well. These will allow us to deliver aid more quickly and efficiently to animal Fire victims. Most know that pets are family members to some folks and the ability to save them is as rewarding as saving a person. Thank you "Mona Pants Foundation" for this equipment. If you are looking for a great cause to donate to please go to monapants.com and check them out.
