Advocate speech from the February 13, 2024, Apple Valley Town Council meeting.
It’s been quite clear to us for a while now that the Town Council of Apple Valley could give two sh*ts about what advocates for change at AVAS have to say, for many reasons, one being that we do not reside in Apple Valley. But we’re still going to say it, because it’s the right thing to do… and removing Gina Whiteside as Animal Services Director is the right thing to do, too.
Apple Valley residents, are you content with this council? Are you happy with the way your companion animals are treated? Are you satisfied with how your tax dollars are spent? If not, please message us. The animals need your voice.

Please take three minutes to watch this video in which an advocate speaks to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors about recent policy changes implemented by Animal Services Director Gina Whiteside at Apple Valley Animal Shelter. These abrupt and unannounced changes in policy have already resulted in unnecessary deaths.
If you have been feeling some type of way about how Gina Whiteside and the Town of Apple Valley run their animal shelter, please join us at the protest, vigil, and town meeting this coming Tuesday.

This sweet face is Mercy. She was killed by Apple Valley Animal Shelter on January 5, 2024, after being there only 15 calendar days. The shelter was closed to the public for adoptions and rescue pulls on 10 out of those 15 days, leaving poor Mercy a grand total of 5 days around the holidays to find a home.
Mercy was a senior girl. She came in with a collar on, not spayed, sore joints, several masses, and ribs showing. It was clear that her former “family” did not show her the love and care she deserved.
Mercy deserved to spend the rest of her days with a family who cherished her, showered her with love, and spoiled her. Instead, she spent her last two weeks of life lying on a hard floor in a cold, noisy room, with barely any human interaction. And then, without any tranquilizer or even a friendly face to hold her paw, she was injected with a substance that sucked all the life out of her. No mercy. Literally, no more Mercy.
Please send respectful and non-threatening emails to [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] to ask them why they only give dogs like Mercy 5 days to find a home before killing them, especially when they decide to close 10 straight days for Christmas.
