One of this past weeks setup, strong winds were perfect for this. Dogs are released on mark then sent on either blind of choice. At first, dogs should be released on mark 1 then the down wind blinds to help avoid any scent confusion. As more experience is gained a dog could be sent on any of the blinds first but we want the dog to be successful in the early stages of drills like this, so we use the wind to our advantage, to help the dog not wind the upwind mark (s) while on a blind send.
“Is 2yrs old too old to start training?”
Simple answer is No, it just might look different during the process lol
Lucy is a 2yr old black lab and really coming along.
Addison running Chip today. Beautiful weather and great afternoon session. I’ve been demoted to “bumper boy” and I’m ok with that lol
Stopped in to resupply today. Thanks for the tour, great products and costumer service as always. If you want to know more about all the products has to offer check them out online or send me a message and we can chat dogs and dog health lol.
Didn’t have to tell them twice to load up…..Little did they know I would be taking them to get a bath this time 😂
Quick drill that we can do that’s easy for us and simple for kids to jump in and help out with.
What can we do when the weather outside isn’t “ideal” to be out in for an extended time?
“Sorry Chip, season is closed till Sept”
Recovery is so important.
Hydration and muscle recovery play a big role in our dogs staying in top shape and healthy. I use Alpha Dog Nutrition year round and know I’m helping my teammate recover as much as possible when I add these supplements. Made from simple ingredient and a taste that clearly the dogs love.
Last morning in NY
Day 2 started with some orange feet.
We rolled in right when the birds started flying. Fog helped keep them down a bit late. Chip getting his workout in on this muddy mess.
We’re NY bound to scratch that duck and goose hunting itch that Chip and I are not done with yet lol. Chips first out of state hunt. Be sure to watch for live feeds and updates during our trip.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Let’s talk pad care people. Your dogs pad health is so important and directly related to your dogs ability to perform at a high level and their overall demeanor. I make a point to check my dog and clients dog’s pads during and after training or hunts. It’s easy for things to become lodged or packed in them so we check them from time to time and clean them out. I apply Alpha Dog Nutritions Pad cream often to help keep the pads protected and prevent cracking and drying out.
Waiting out these late season geese.
After testing out products this year I am very happy with how well my dogs and clients dogs have improved everything from Coat and Skin health to older dogs having faster and noticeably less stiffness after hunting hard this season. Also very impressed with how they treat customers and back their products. If you’re interested in learning more about those products and which to start with, send us a message and I will walk you through the process and give you some suggestions.
Ended the Northern Zone season on a solid note.
One of the best mallard we’ve gotten so far this year.
It ain’t green but we don’t care lol.

I am huge on positive reinforcement, and with that making sure that the timing of corrections and praise is on point. Praise is a major factor in showing young pups what is good and what’s isn’t. We can use the timing of praise/rewards to encourage the desired actions of our dogs. In this video, I go over an often overlooked timing of praise that when “on time” can produce results fairly quickly in young dogs, as well as older dogs. This is one of the main reasons why I tell people doing my private one on one sessions “it’s easy to train the dog, training you how to train the dog takes more work “ and that’s not a bad thing there’s just more details involved on our end. #maple_leaf_kennels #AlphaDogNutrition #waterfowlwednesday #Wisconsin Sierra Delta #beavertailproducts Cato Outdoors Brady Hart Hartbeat Waterfowl Outfitters LLC
“Ice” doing some recall and place/sit work. In this video I also go over a little trick that I’ve been using for years on how to cut the learning curve of puppies tendency to jump when they’re excited or when you’re praising them. Have a great Sunday !

Blue on day 2 of “mini T” drill In this video you can see how small the set up is and watch how Blue is starting to build confidence and self correct by the second day already, this isn’t something that they’re born able to do or naturally able to do, so we slow things down and make extra sure to be calm with our hand signals and voice. This drill is a drill of high reps between start and finish. We do it till they can’t get it wrong.
“mini T“ drill. Blue on day 2 of this drill. Next video will be an “above” look at what’s going on ans real time running of this drill with a dog who spanking new to it.
A whistle stop drill I like to use in transition during casting work. **You’ll notice in the second run of the drill blue slows down in anticipation of the whistle, what we will do next is send Blue on a retrieve without a whistle to keep him “honest” for the drill.** Sorry for turning the camera sideways please forgive me 😂
Part 2 (Chip running the walking Memory blind) *side note* Everyone has their preference on some of the “small” things. I’ve tried to always be open to new methods and approaches to training. How I send my dogs was one of the first things I learned to do different when training. Quiet and calm vs loud and aggressive I still get a bit excited when I’m sending my teammate on a goose because geese hit me different like that 😂.
