As thanksgiving approaches, remember to be mindful of what you give your dog, a trip to the emergency vet on thanksgiving would not be fun!
As we look forward to Thanksgiving this week, please remember NOT to feed the following food items to your pets!!!
Your dog or cat CANNOT eat:
🍗 Turkey Skin + Drippings
Why? High fat foods such as turkey skin and oily drippings can be difficult to digest, possibly leading to pancreatitis!
🍖 Turkey Bones
Why? Cooked turkey and ham bones can splinter in the digestive tract, causing an unwanted emergency trip to the hospital!
🥬 Onions, Garlic, Chives, Leeks
Why? These allium veggies - whether it's raw or cooked - can cause red blood cell destruction and may cause anemia!
🍇 Grapes, Raisins
Why? Even a small amount can be toxic, leading to severe kidney damage with a lack of urine production.
🍫 Chocolate, Raw Dough and Batter
Why? The theobromine and caffeine found in chocolate is poisonous to dogs and can make them very sick. Raw yeasted dough can rise in the stomach and create painful gas and bloating in the digestive system, as well!
🍷 Alcohol
Why? The ethanol found in alcohol is poisonous for both cats and dogs, and the level of toxicity depends on the amount ingested (as well as your dog or cat's body weight.)
🐾 Miscellaneous
Other items that your pets should not eat are: Turkey twine, Corn on the cob, Mushrooms, Sage, Nuts, Candied Yams, Butter, Nutmeg, Stuffing, and Gravy!
Let's all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving 🦃
