very dog deserves the best start in life. Your puppy will be raised on our premium puppy program, where they will participate in 8 weeks of an advanced service dog curriculum. Before being chosen, they will complete a temperament evaluation, so you can match yourself with the best fit for your family. Adding a new family member isn’t something you take lightly, and at Blackwood Acres we don’t either.

Happy Gotcha Day to the Peter Rabbit litter! ✨️

💛 Benjamin, now Milton, lives closer than most of our puppies, only an hour away in Champaign, IL.

💚 McGregor, now Enzo, lives in Chicago with his family who has been waiting a very long time for him.

💙 Peter, now Porto, also lives in Chicago and will have the most fun growing up as a foodie in the city.

🩵 Cottontail, now Mayday, traveled home to Minnesota, where she will be absolutely spoiled with those snowy winters.

🩷 Mopsy, now Naboo, will grow up in the Chicago suburbs with her very excited family.

The Peter Rabbit litter is over 6 weeks old! Someone tell me where the time has gone. 😩

We've been so busy soaking up all of the puppy cuddles. Adoption Day is right around the corner, and fortunately it won't be as difficult this time because we are keeping one of these beautiful girls for our program. 🤩 We are waiting until after evaluations to make our pick, but I'd love to know...

Having puppies again is such a sweet reminder of the blessing of life, the importance of savoring the little moments, the joy of caring for someone who can't care for themselves.

Kota is an incredible mother. She gets anxious when her babies are away from her for longer than a bathroom break, so we had to make this photo shoot quick. 😅

Potty and crate training can feel overwhelming at first, but having a solid schedule makes all the difference! Consistency helps your puppy learn faster, reduces accidents, and builds their confidence.

💡 Tip: Puppies thrive on routine. Stick to your schedule, watch for potty signals (sniffing, circling, whining), and always reward good behavior with treats and praise!

Crate training is a game-changer for creating a safe, cozy space while teaching them bladder control. We always recommend special crate-only toys to make crate time a treat. (The crate training aids from @‌diggspet are AMAZING!)

Potty training is one of the biggest challenges for new puppy parents, but with consistency, patience, and these 8 tips, you’ll be a pro in no time!

1️⃣ Set a schedule
2️⃣ Use a designated potty spot
3️⃣ Supervise your puppy indoors
4️⃣ Crate train smartly
5️⃣ Reward good behavior immediately
6️⃣ Use consistent commands like “Go potty”
7️⃣ Clean accidents thoroughly

Rescue dogs are an amazing option for the right family—but let’s be real—they’re not the best fit for everyone. 🐾

If you’ve got young kids running around, want the best chance at a healthy pup, or have your heart set on a specific breed or raising a puppy from the start, a rescue might not be the ideal choice.

Here’s why:

🐶 Rescues often come with an unknown history, which can mean unexpected behaviors or health concerns—not always the best combo for a house full of toddlers.
🐶 Want to raise a dog your way from day one? With a rescue, you’re likely skipping the puppy stage altogether.

Don't buy an unsocialized puppy if you want a nonreactive dog. 🛑

Research shows that puppies handled with love, empowered with enrichment activities, and raised to be confident turn out to be healthier and happier dogs.

There are so many options these days. Don't settle for a puppy who hasn't experienced any stressors before coming home. Instead, look for a breeder who practices socialization and exposure from the very beginning.

All but one of the Princesses are home! We have the BEST clients and these girls are so lucky. 🥹

💛 Belle, now Sage, is with her family in Chicago.
🩷 Aurora, now Josie, is with her family in St. Louis.
💜 Rapunzel, now Smoke, is with her family in Texas.
🩵 Cinderella is still waiting on Prince Charming! She has completed two weeks of training, is sleeping through the night in her crate, and can't wait to spend the holidays with her new family. 🫶

Berners are huge, shed year round, expensive, prone to health issues, and needy. If you don't think you can take on adopting a teenager that sheds, please admire them from afar. 🤡
