The community has spoken and Miles of Freedom listened!

We asked for nominees of individuals and organizations who exemplify commitment and service in assisting those impacted by incarceration to receive the Aubrey Lewis Jones Service Award, which will be presented during MILES of Freedom's 13th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 25, at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel.

Congratulations to the organization receiving the 2025 Aubrey Lewis Jones Service Award:

Faith Fight Finish Foundation by Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott’s late mother, Peggy, instilled in him the values that continue to guide his life and work today. He lives by her words of encouragement — Faith. Fight. Finish. — and carries forward her lessons of strength, resilience, and perseverance in the face of
life’s challenges.

Inspired by both his mother’s example and his own experiences with loss, Dak has embraced a mission of giving back that goes well beyond expectation. His empathy and ability to connect authentically with people are at the heart of his charitable work, and through the Faith Fight Finish Foundation, he honors his mother’s legacy by investing in families, youth, and communities.

The Foundation focuses on four core initiatives, including efforts to build stronger relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Through its Law Enforcement Steering Committee and the CYCLE (Connecting Youth & Communities
with Law Enforcement) training program, the Foundation provides critical education on adolescent development, de-escalation, trauma-informed response, and community engagement. Enhanced with components on mental health awareness and service, this
initiative is designed to create systemic change in policing and foster safer, healthier communities nationwide.

Thank you again for your commitment to serving individuals impacted by incarceration!

🕊️ CHANGED EVERYTHING 🕊️

On this day... 24 years ago:

246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights.
2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning.
343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift.
60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol.
8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives.
None of them took a breath past 10:30 a.m. on September 11, 2001.
And it doesn't matter if you weren't there, too little to remember or not even born yet, this day, this piece of history, changed the world forever. It changed YOUR world forever.

🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸

He stands in silence. Without a rider. Without glory. Only an empty saddle and a heavy, hunched body. Before you is a monument to the horse that went through war. His rider did not return. And now he stands as a symbol of all those who fought without a choice, who carried pain, weight, and death on their backs.

This monument is located in Lexington, Virginia. But its meaning is universal. It honors all horses lost in wars — especially during the American Civil War. It’s known as The Riderless Horse. And in its silence, there is more sorrow than a thousand words could express.

This is not just bronze. This is grief. This is honor. This is a memory of those who had no voice, yet served until their final breath. His lowered head is a prayer. His empty saddle is a loss. His posture is a testament to loyalty that asks no questions — it simply goes… until it falls.

We bow not only to the soldiers who fought. We bow to those who carried them — through mud, through fire, through fear… and still moved forward.

Because sometimes, the truest heroes are silent.

I've been thinking about leadership lately.

Not the kind that comes with titles or corner offices… but the kind that truly impacts lives.
Leadership is hard. It takes courage. And most of all—it takes responsibility. Not just for how we lead, but for who we choose to follow.

Too often, we follow someone because they're popular, loud, or in charge—without asking ourselves the real questions.

Here are 3 questions I believe everyone should ask about the person they're following (and if you're a leader—questions your team is silently asking about you):

1️⃣ Can you help me?
This is about competence. Do you actually know how to guide me toward growth?

2️⃣ Do you care for me?
This is about compassion. Am I just a number—or do you really care about my well-being?

3️⃣ Can I trust you?
This is about character. Are you the same person behind closed doors as you are in public?

I’ve had to ask these questions of myself. And I hope the people who’ve chosen to follow me feel confident in the answers.

Because leadership is a privilege. And every follower deserves someone worth following.

If you’ve ever had a leader who made a real difference in your life, drop their name (or a lesson they taught you) in the comments. Let’s celebrate what good leadership looks like.

Horses are truly incredible creatures — not only for their power, grace, and endurance on land, but also for their remarkable ability to swim confidently and naturally. 🌊🐎

Many people don’t realize that swimming is an instinct for horses. They don’t need to be taught — when a horse enters deep water, it immediately begins to paddle with strong, rhythmic leg movements that keep it afloat.

✅ Fascinating facts:

Horses can swim at a speed of about 4–6 km/h (2.5–3.7 mph).

Depending on their fitness and health, they are capable of swimming from 300 meters up to several kilometers without rest.

Their large lungs, strong heart, and muscular build allow them to handle mild currents with ease.

Swimming is also highly beneficial for their health: it strengthens muscles, relieves stress on joints, and helps with relaxation and recovery.

But perhaps the most awe-inspiring part is the calm and trust you see in a horse’s eyes while it swims. Swimming isn’t about escape or fear — it’s about freedom. In every powerful stroke, there’s harmony with nature. In every breath, there's raw, living strength.

Watching a horse glide through deep water, you don’t just see an animal. You see a spirit that doesn’t fear the depth — because it was born to move through it.

What are those “petals” on a newborn foal’s hooves? 🐴👣

If you’ve ever seen the hooves of a just-born foal, they might surprise you. Instead of the familiar hard structures, you’ll notice soft, fluffy growths that look almost waxy or petal-like. But don’t worry — it’s completely natural!

These structures are called eponychium (commonly nicknamed “foal slippers”). They serve a very important purpose:
🔸 They protect the delicate environment of the womb from the sharp edges of the hooves;
🔸 They prevent injury to the birth canal during delivery;
🔸 They cushion the foal’s first steps right after birth.

Within a few hours of birth, these soft tissues begin to dry out, wear off, and naturally fall away, revealing the fully formed hoof underneath. Within a day or two, the foal’s hooves look just like those of an adult horse.

Nature, as always, takes care of every little detail ❤️
