Thanks to their incredibly efficient kidneys, cats are able to filter out the salt from ocean water and retain the hydration they need. This adaptation dates back to their desert-dwelling ancestors, who were masters of surviving with minimal fresh water, according to PangoVet.

While this makes cats capable of enduring saltwater in emergencies, it doesn't mean it's healthy for them. Regular consumption of seawater can place undue stress on their kidneys and lead to health issues like dehydration or salt toxicity over time.

Ian Burke, the man who delivered mail to Floyd and his elderly owner’s house for three years, knew he needed to give Floyd the forever home he deserved. Ian and Floyd were good friends from the start, with Floyd greeting him during his daily mail routine.

Ian’s route recently changed, and the carrier who took over let him know last Saturday that Floyd’s owner had passed away and Floyd was currently in the shelter. Ian then showed up at the City of Denton Animal Shelter at 9:50am, 10 minutes before opening to make sure he was first in line to bring Floyd home.

“I think he'd be pleased to know his former mailman is taking good care of his dog.” Ian also said Floyd is one of the best things the postal service has inadvertently given him. ❤️💌

Delta Airlines for the win

Delta Airlines for the win

A Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Los Angeles made an unexpected stop in Minneapolis—not for weather or fuel, but to save a sick dog’s life.

Roughly an hour into the journey on May 27, a pet traveling in the cabin became “noticeably unwell.” Flight attendants issued an onboard call for a veterinarian—and found one. With input from the vet and concerns that continuing could be life-threatening, the captain diverted to Minneapolis–St. Paul. Paramedics met the dog and owner on arrival. Delta later confirmed the pet had recovered.

Flight DL837, operated by an Airbus A321 carrying 181 passengers, was delayed by 2.5 hours, arriving in LA just after 1 a.m.

“The safety of our customers and people comes before everything else,” Delta said.

It’s not the first animal-related diversion this year. In April, a United flight rerouted after a dog defecated in the aisle. Earlier this month, pigeons twice grounded a Delta A220 in Minneapolis. But a dog saved midair? That’s rare—and, depending who you ask, kind of heartwarming.
