The great thing about having an LGD...
Tonight, I went with my daughter out to our barn, to do a night check. I've been missing 1 chicken. I wanted to recount my chickens, hoping I counted wrong the last few nights.
Immediately, Chloe alerted me to something "off" in the barn cat food closet. We have the feeding station set up in a closet, it has a space for the cats to get in and out of. I did this because I thought the chickens were eating the cat food. But even after I did this -- we were still going through way too much cat food. Something was just not right. Chloes frantic behaviors around the closet also alerted our German Shepherd and... the Yorkie poo🤣🤣 I told my daughter, "Something not right! Look at her! There is either a stray cat in the closet or a racoon!" I slowly unlocked the closet, looked around and in the bottom corner was a POSSUM! 😲
We gathered up the dogs and took them in the house and my son and hubby helped get the opossum out of the barn!
Without Chloe, I would have just unexpectedly opened the closet door to refill the feeder and probably would have had a wild encounter, or worse, the opossum would've snagged a chicken on his way out....
Boomer, our full time LGD does live in the barn with the chickens and cats, but his fence indoor area is just beyond their enclosures. I may have to rearrange some things ;)
Good job, old girl.
