HAPPY 8TH BIRTHDAY TO OUR VERY FIRST LITTER EVER!
Chloe + Thor produced 11 babies! & oh my goodness, we've come along way since then!
I'm MORTIFIED to admit this, but as the saying goes "When you know better, you do better!"
Let me tell you the story of this first litter.
I was in MICHIGAN.
Chloe was due the day before I was supposed to be back. My hubby took her out that night to p*e before he put her in the kennel. She went off to p*e, he didn't think anything of it.
A little later, she started having babies... in the shed... in the hay... no cameras, no supervision...
He told me she had 3 and he went to bed! 😬😬
The suspense was killing me. The next day after many failed attempts to get him on the phone, he finally answered and said he hadn't checked on her before he left for work, so he had no idea how many she had!!!! I was on my way home at that point. My SIL went over and did a count and "Ten!" It was....
Or was it?
Once we got home that evening, the kids and I and our other dog, Samson all climbed in with her and counted puppies. As the kids went off to play my daughter came running in saying she thinks she found a rat in the yard..IT WAS PUPPY #11...😯😯😯😯
When my husband had let Chloe out to potty the night before, she actually had given birth to the first puppy in the yard!!!!!! He wasn't watching her, so he had no idea! This is pretty common. Mamas think they need to p*e, but push out a baby. Just not unattended and leaving it there for almost 22 hours later!!! It was still ALIVE! And she still is too this day! She was the runt, but grew into a beautiful gal named, Alice.
So. Yeah. Not my finest moments. And probably why I'm a nut job with cameras and being with Mamas during delivery. But, who knew!? That first litter started a passion in me to do this (almost). Full time!
