Update - Yesterday, our crew was up before 6am to head to the mountains. The morning started a little rough.. Burnie and I had to tend to our injured donkey at 5am, we got to the shop with our crew and got everything loaded up (full box truck, 400lb of hamburger meat, 5burners, lots of propane, etc. And then the box truck wouldnt start!! Eeek so we had to jump start the truck😬Then, we piled into the trucks and headed to Hendersonville, south of Asheville. No water, no power but a lot of generosity! We spent over 7hours cooking and serving over 1,000 sandwhiches to local people and road crews. After that, we unloaded our box truck full of items!! We heard people talk about not having a roof, losing their house and staying in their neighbors garage, no showers for over a week, switching out empty propane tanks for full ones to cook, etc - Tough to hear their struggles, but glad to have helped feed and provide a few smiles. Our sloppy joes were getting GREAT reviews, big thanks to Burnie and Steve for cooking! We got home around 10pm last night. We are all glad that we started Harpley’s Helps and that we can help provide some protein to these areas!
For now, a lot of the larger places near Asheville are overrun with donations and are simply trying to coordinate with organizations who can get it to the people that need it! By air, ATV, horses, foot, etc until that is coordinated, many places are not able to accept any more donations. plus, many larger companies are now donating truck loads - so it really is about HOW to get stuff to the remote people and locations. Some of the smaller towns are still in great need though. For the upcoming week, we are going to focus on sending up meat products to locations that can cook and serve!
We could not have done this without all of you who have given!! Although we aren’t currently taking physical donations of items, we can still accept financial donations which will help us deliver the meals to people up ther
A customer sent us this video - a doe had her baby in their yard and their dog must have gotten a little too close! Both Dog and fawn are okay! #protectivemomma
This past week we headed to the World Taxidermy Convention. Learned a lot, met a lot of awesome taxidermists… and Look at all these amazing mounts.

QUICK STORY - As many of you may know, we are expanding and building a new location on Zoo Parkway. Well, Jamie has been working so hard to save this one large oak tree. She has caused some delays (and 💰). shifting the building, re-drawing engineered plans, and a lot of time and effort to try and save it. She became slightly obsessed with this tree!
Her contractor recommended she speak to an aborist to see if all her efforts were worth it. Unfortunately, the arborist explained that the tree was sick. Jamie did not take the news well. There may have been tears shed 😬
(Note - please watch the video til the end and you will understand)
So, yesterday the tree had to come down. She hasn’t handled it very well 🤣 I swear I never knew she was so passionate about trees 🤣 But, give her credit. She tried.
In case anyone was wondering… this man does it all! Haha. I was walking to my office and see him literally on his hands and knees scrubbing the floor. #HarpleysClean
Harpley’s Helped … clean up some of the Uwharrie Gamelands this weekend. Look at our haul! Tires, bed box springs, lots of glass bottles, cans, plastic, etc We even found an ammo box that a boy-scout group had put out as part of a geo-caching experience… that was fun! We put a Harpleys brochure in it and put it back! Check in on our website for future volunteer times! www.HarpleysHelps.org
