Brother Wolf Animal Rescue

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue Brother Wolf works to better the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. Est 2007 We know that together we can create a kinder world.

Founded in 2007, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue enhances the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. We work across county lines with the goal of saving the greatest number of lives possible through strategic, creative, and impactful programming. Through adoption and pet retention programs, a low-cost mobile spay and neuter clinic, lifesaving shelter transfer partnerships, extensive v

olunteer and foster networks, and a trap-neuter-return program for community cats, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue impacts the lives of thousands of animals each year in the Western North Carolina region. We operate an adoption center in the heart of Asheville where you can meet your next best friend. On our campus you’ll also find our thrift store and retail store whose proceeds help fund our lifesaving programs. We are a community-based organization and rely on the generosity of our donors to continue our impactful work for animals as we receive no government funding.

One moment, she was safe; the next…she was trapped.

Fallen trees and branches pinned her in standing water for days. Her family crawled and climbed through debris, desperate to reach Blu, but they couldn’t get her free. They could only give her small amounts of comfort — handfuls of water, food, and affection gently offered through the narrow gaps in the branches.

Blu’s story is sadly only one of the thousands of animals Brother Wolf has helped since the hurricane. And now, We have been given a historic opportunity to rebuild stronger than ever.

Every dollar you give will be matched FOUR TIMES—up to $1.5 million!!—until the end of the year. 🥹 We know it won't be easy, but we can't pass up the opportunity to help animals just like Blu.

We need your help to spread the word. Like and comment on this post so people see it, share our story in line at the grocery store, go to the link in our bio and share our blog; together, we believe we can reach this historic goal.

After relentless efforts and the help of rescuers, Blu was finally free – but her story was just beginning. She needed medical care, and she needed it badly. Thanks to supporters like you, Brother Wolf was able to help.

When you support Brother Wolf, you're not just helping to rebuild a shelter. You're rebuilding hope. You're allowing Blu to be a happy, healthy dog again.

Together, we can ensure that no matter what storms come our way, Brother Wolf will be here for generations to provide refuge, healing, and hope.

Thank you for helping Rebuild Brother Wolf.

Twelve. Hundred. Animals —— 7 weeks.

Twelve hundred animals have been rescued from illness or injury because of Brother Wolf in the last 7 weeks.

We have never felt closer to our community. We have shared stories, laughed together, held each other as we cried. Helped each other.

How has it been 7 weeks? The days are going by fast, and we haven’t stopped. It has been challenging, heartbreaking, and soul-filling at the same time. Having a place to put our energy, a way to put our grief and pain into something bigger, has been a gift in the darkest of days.

Rebuilding Brother Wolf’s shelter will be a long path to walk. We understand that, but we don’t have to rebuild the part of Brother Wolf that makes us who we are - because that lives in every person who deeply loves animals, who deeply loves their neighbors and who supports the work we are lucky to do each and every day.

“3 dogs attacked him- he didn’t even fight back, that’s how gentle he is.”

Jake’s injuries are significant, and his people were desperately trying to find him help. Luckily, volunteers in the remote area heard his story and knew Brother Wolf would help.

Though Jake is back with his loving family, and the physical pain he’s endured will heal, some wounds need more time to mend than others.

After all we have collectively endured, we feel connected to his story so deeply- the pain, yet also the resilience to stay gentle and kind, even in the hardest of times.

Everything is not okay. Our kindred pack is hurting. Animals are injured, sick, and suffering. Feeling forgotten, feeling left behind in the relief aid.

Loyal animals who have suffered beside their people. The dogs who went through the darkest weeks, providing comfort and love to their family, while hurting so badly themselves.

Cats who have lost everything they knew, their homes, their familiar smells, we can’t let them lose their families too.

We will not let the loss of our shelter stop us from helping animals who are in pain.

Animals who have been sick, or severely injured for WEEKS. Their people have been desperately trying to get them to help, but there is No. Help. For. Them.

After losing so much ourselves, we know what it feels like to have everything ripped away - we find comfort in each other, from our animals, and from people like you - who care enough to follow our work. We want to provide that same comfort to this region we love so deeply.

Brother Wolf is launching, ‘Stay Together,’ to provide the help animals need. You can send us a message or email us if you need help. If you know someone who needs help, direct them to our website.

Thank you for caring. Together, we will bring relief and comfort. Together We Save Lives.

Kite was thrown from her kayak when it hit a rapid. She worked for 13 days in a row- searching for missing people in the landslides. After falling in the water, Kite got an ear infection. We were honored to be able to help her, so she can get back to helping others.

Leave her and her mom words of thanks in the comments - to show them how much their work is appreciated. 🩷

Kite is one of many animals we are helping as we provide free veterinary care in hard-hit areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. With our teammates from Best Friends and volunteer veterinarians, we are making a real difference for animals and their people who have nowhere else to turn.

Thank you for your continued support, thank you for your donations. Our work has not stopped or slowed down; it just looks different while we rebuild Brother Wolf.

Gandolf was left behind. Trapped in an outdoor kennel. The place he lived his entire life. A small world now quickly becoming a nightmare. We can’t imagine how frightened he was as floodwaters hit his chest.

A kind person couldn’t stop thinking about him, outside alone in the hurricane. The water rising by the second, something generations had never seen.

In an act of true bravery. They went to find him. Climbing over debris and risking personal safety- for a dog that wasn’t theirs.

They got to him just in time. He was now safe, but he was sick and needed medical care.

Gandolf is one of many animals we are helping as we provide free veterinary care in rural hard-hit areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. With our teammates from Best Friends Animal Society, Providence Animal Center, Fido Fixers, and volunteer veterinarians, we are making a real difference for animals and their people who have nowhere else to turn.

Thank you for your continued support, thank you for your donations. Our work has not stopped or slowed down; it just looks different while we rebuild Brother Wolf.

In devastation- there can be beauty. The conflicting emotions since Hurricane Helene have taught us this lesson repeatedly. We are full of grief and full of love.

In a time of immense loss, we are finding impactful ways to help animals and their people in hard-hit areas (more coming about that later this week).

Our connection to our community is stronger than ever. We might have lost our physical assets, but we are determined to rebuild stronger than before; so that we can be the ones to help others - as many people have helped us in the last few weeks.

There is strength in kindness, and our respect for the people and organizations who helped us pick up the pieces cannot be put into words. So even though it doesn’t feel like enough, thank you. *

Together, we will rebuild Brother Wolf.

*Thank you: Brother Wolf Staff, for your unwavering commitment to our shared mission. To our Fosters & Volunteers who showed up in ways we will never forget. Our amazing Donors who allow us to save and serve the animals we all love. To people like you reading and interacting with this post, it helps, and it matters. To the amazing team at the ASPCA who have been pivotal in providing us stability. To rescue partners who did not hesitate to bring foster animals into their care. To our teammates at Best Friends Animal Society, working side by side to help animals who need it right now. To Shelter Animals Count for your expert guidance. To the resiliency of our people, our home, we will get through this tragedy together. We will rebuild.

The past week has been excruciating.

Amidst the heartbreak and debris, we’ve been picking up the pieces. The few of us who can are pushing forward, taking turns to hold each other up through moments of profound sorrow and grief.

The thing remains clear: Now, more than ever, animals desperately need our help. Saving lives is what we do best, and we’re determined to do just that.

A very generous donor has pledged to match all donations up to $500,000 starting tonight – doubling your impact. With your help, we can continue to save animals who have no one else coming for them.

As of this morning, 100 animals have been safely transported to partner shelters as far as Massachusetts, where they will be cared for and find homes of their own; something many of them have never had.

Help us continue saving the countless animals in this region who have nowhere else to turn – those who depend on Brother Wolf to be here for them. Together, we can offer hope to those still waiting for rescue.

Small steps. Deep breaths. We are trying not to get bogged down in the magnitude of our devastation. The pain of our beloved region, our neighbors and friends who lost their lives, the loss of our shelter. It’s too much to comprehend.

Today, the first 40 animals left on a transport to partner shelters. They are safe, and people want to adopt them and comfort them. As flood waters ravaged our communities and ripped homes off of their foundations, animals were right there beside us. They were trying to survive.

Brother Wolf is also trying to survive. We need help to keep helping animals. We need to build a new shelter. We need you. Please donate and donate generously. Please share our story. Please help us survive.

Things are bad. We can’t sugarcoat it.

We have been completely devastated as an organization. The flooding reached a critical level that no one ever imagined. We thought we would have a few feet of standing water. Instead… raging flood water reached the top of our buildings, swallowing our vehicles and destroying any resources left.

We are thinking of our neighbors and the lives lost in this terrifying disaster.

We can’t even begin to process the loss of our shelter that has saved hundreds of thousands of animals since 2007. It’s now a disaster zone.

At the same time, we feel lucky that only our physical assets were destroyed. All of our animals were evacuated thanks to our beautiful community. The heart of Brother Wolf is not a shelter; it’s all of us coming together to impact both people's and animals' lives in a positive way.

We have 137 animals in foster care, most of whom were supposed to return to the shelter tomorrow, and many are running out of supplies.

Our leadership team is working diligently to secure a facility for emergency operations; it has been challenging with almost no communication avenues, but we hope to have an official update in the next two days.

More updates will come as communications improve. We’re trying to contact our staff, volunteers, and fosters, but there is limited communication available in our area.

Please be patient with us as we find WiFi each day. Our response time will be much slower than average.

Brother Wolf will rebuild. We are the lifeline for thousands of animals each year. If Hurricane Helene did not affect you and you can make a monetary donation, it is critical now more than ever. Please keep us in your thoughts; you are in ours.

Y’ALL DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! To be honest- this morning, we were full of fear. Terrified. Our shelter started flooding for the first time in years. Roads around Brother Wolf were already closed, and the worst of the rain still hasn’t reached us.

We knew we had to get the animals somewhere dry, somewhere safe. We turned to you. The gratitude we feel right now is overwhelming in the best way.

Instead of fear, we feel hopeful, connected, energized, and comforted. Thank you to each person who helped in whatever way they could. Your effort does not go unnoticed, and you are appreciated.

Right now, every animal is in a temporary or long-term foster home. Our shelter is empty, and we are ready for whatever tomorrow brings because we know we can do anything together.

Stay safe. Stay dry. Together We Save Lives.

“I thought she was a coyote.” Rosie has been on her own, fighting to survive. You can tell she suffered- each rib poking out of her body. It took hours of patience to finally bring her to safety.

But she is safe now. Thanks to people like you who support our work in so many ways- kind words, donations, volunteering, adopting, fostering, engaging with posts like this, bringing us supplies- everything. We couldn’t do it without you by our side. Together We Save Lives.
