Founded in 2007, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue enhances the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. We work across county lines with the goal of saving the greatest number of lives possible through strategic, creative, and impactful programming. Through adoption and pet retention programs, a low-cost mobile spay and neuter clinic, lifesaving shelter transfer partnerships, extensive v

olunteer and foster networks, and a trap-neuter-return program for community cats, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue impacts the lives of thousands of animals each year in the Western North Carolina region. We operate an adoption center in the heart of Asheville where you can meet your next best friend. On our campus you’ll also find our thrift store and retail store whose proceeds help fund our lifesaving programs. We are a community-based organization and rely on the generosity of our donors to continue our impactful work for animals as we receive no government funding.

Lottie update:

Lottie has been resting.

Not the kind of rest that comes easy - but the kind that comes when you realize you don’t have to fight to stay alive anymore. That you are safe.

As we’ve gotten to know Lottie (or Grandma Lottie, as our staff lovingly calls her), the weight of what she has endured is becoming clearer.

Lottie is anemic. She has mammary tumors. She has Lyme disease.

Despite her physical challenges. She is gentle, and craves affection as if she’s been waiting for this moment her whole life.

There is also grief in this chapter.

Three of her puppies are still with us. Tiny, fragile, fighting. They are being bottle-fed to give Grandma Lottie a break, and to give them a chance.

Thank you for caring for her, for helping us free her from pain and fear, and for holding space for both the heartbreak and the hope we all experience in this life.

It started with a sound.

Standing at a bus stop, someone heard it - faint and easy to miss. A soft, sad, whimper coming from the brush nearby.

Hidden there was a dog that the neighborhood recognized. She doesn’t have a home, or a family.

Sweet. Gentle. Twelve years Old.

Over 100 pounds of tired bones and kind eyes.

When the Good Samaritan found her- They quickly knew something was wrong.

She was giving birth. Unimaginable at her age.

She was in trouble.

The kind of trouble we won’t put into words here. It is too upsetting.

Please hold her, and her surviving newborns, in your heart.

Every animal who comes to Brother Wolf needs a safe place to land. In 2025, more than 900 animals found exactly that - families, stability, and a future - because someone chose to say yes.

That kind of momentum doesn’t happen by accident.

When floodwaters took our shelter, it could have brought our work to a halt. Instead, we were met with open doors, a safe place to land, and unwavering support. When we needed it most, the ASPCA offered Brother Wolf something extraordinary: temporary physical space, trust, assistance, and the ability to keep moving forward immediately.

This is what real partnership in animal welfare looks like - when strength is shared, missions are enacted, and lifesaving doesn’t pause, even in the face of loss.

So today, we’re celebrating:

💛Families who opened their homes and hearts

A Joyful Update! 🎉

If you’ve been following along with Apple Dumpling and her puppies - checking in on their updates, sharing their story, donating to their care, or cheering them on from afar - we’re so happy to share this news:

🍎Apple Dumpling has been adopted!
🐶Her puppies have been adopted!
🏡And in the last 7 days, 32 animals have found loving families. WOW!

🎄🎁One adoption moment we can’t stop thinking about: Apple’s adopter asked for photos of each Dumpling puppy so she can make Christmas ornaments out of them - so Apple can always “remember” her little dumplings. A small, beautiful way to honor where she’s been as she steps into what’s next.

These joyful moments are made possible by SO MANY of us working together. To our foster families who opened their homes, to our adopters who opened their hearts, and to everyone who supported these amazing animals with donations, messages, shares, and encouragement - thank you. 🎉Tadpole Has Been Adopted!! 🎉

If you need a little joy today… It has arrived!

Tadpole’s new family was so excited to welcome him home that they were waiting outside at 6am - bundled up, smiling, kind, and absolutely beaming with love.

Some of you might remember their other Brother Wolf alum: Remy, a sweetheart tripod pittie they adopted in 2021.

Well… Remy is officially a big sister now!!

Two dogs. Six legs. All the love.

“We had a nice walk and were stopped by dozens of people asking if this was Tadpole!”

Imagine that - a tiny pup who once fought for his life now being recognized on the street like a little hometown hero. 🦸

As if Tadpole's future could get any sweeter… his dad runs a summer camp for children with special needs, and if Tadpole decides camp is his vibe — he’ll be joining his dad and Remy at work.

We can already picture him trotting beside kids who could use a little extra light that day… spreading hope the way only a survivor can. 😭

To everyone who donated, shared his story, held him close in your hearts, or sent a kind word during those terrifying early days: you helped save his life.

And now you’re helping send him into the great big, beautiful life he deserves.

Tadpole the tiny survivor - once fighting for life - is now fully mobile and zooming around SO FAST… good luck keeping up!

He’s spunky, joyful, smart, stubborn in the best puppy way, and absolutely FULL of life. Every wobble, every chomp, every tail wag, every burst of puppy energy feels like a celebration.

We can hardly believe it: Tadpole has bounced back so quickly and so remarkably that he’s ready to find his family!*

Because this community showed up for him. Because you believed he deserved a chance. He has one.

Apple Dumpling & Puppy Update! 🍎🐾

Our sweet Apple Dumpling has finished raising her little dumplings, and now it’s her turn to find the loving home she deserves.

✨ Apple Dumpling will be available for adoption THIS SATURDAY, December 6th, at 11am!

She’ll be waiting to meet families at:📍23 Heritage Dr, Building B (down the hill), Asheville, NC.

And for everyone who has been following her puppies’ journey…

✨ The Dumplings will be available on Wednesday, December 17th, starting at 2pm!*

We expect lots of excited adopters for these little ones, so if you have your heart set on meeting a particular pup, please plan to arrive early. All adoptions are first-come, first-served.

Our process is the same heartfelt one you know:

💛 One-on-one matchmaking with a skilled adoption counselor.
💛 Time to meet, connect, and make sure it’s the right fit for both sides.

Tadpole Update & GivingTuesday Celebration!

WE DID IT! Together, we reached our goal of a $100,000 lifesaving match, doubling our impact for animals who need us most. Whether you donated, forwarded an email, commented on social media, or simply held our animals in your heart yesterday… you were part of this incredible moment. Thank you, we’re so very grateful.

We’re thrilled to share that Tadpole’s surgery was successful, and he’s now quickly recovering with gentle care and pain management. This little pup’s spark is shining so bright - because this community came together to save him.

As GivingTuesday comes to a close. We are so grateful to all of you who took the time to like, comment, donate, or share an animal’s story that touched your heart. We have one last story to share… a little fighter named Piccolo.

Piccolo came to one of our shelter partners as a stray. He was barely alive, and they didn't have the resources to save him. He was so small and weak that he couldn’t stand on his own.

He wouldn’t eat - not because he didn’t want to, but because he simply didn’t have the strength.

So our team syringe-fed him, drop by drop, every few hours. They held him close so he could feel their warm bodies. They whispered kind words to him. They waited for signs of the fight in his heart.

And slowly… Piccolo came back.
First, a stronger swallow.
Then a steadier breath.
Then a tiny, determined bite of solid food on his own.

Your kindness makes transformations like these possible.

Josie tried to run.

When two larger dogs came for her, she did everything she could to escape - scrambling, stumbling, her small legs working as fast as they could. But she couldn’t get away. By the time help reached her, her back legs were badly damaged. She was trembling with fear.

When Josie arrived at Brother Wolf, she was understandably unsure and overwhelmed. Her eyes darted, her body low to the ground, her trust hanging by a thread.

Josie greeted us with the gentlest spirit. A soft tail wag. A tiny lean into a kind hand. A fragile, hopeful question: Am I safe now?

And because of this community — she is.

Victor was found outside at just three weeks old, barely bigger than your hand. He had a severe eye infection that left his tiny face swollen and painful, and his eyes were crusted over.

With intensive medication and round-the-clock care, Victor was able to keep his eyes, though one will always carry a scar. A reminder of what he survived. A reminder of just how fragile and resilient these little ones can be at the same time.

Victor is playful, curious, and full of life. He is everything a kitten should be — because someone cared enough to make sure he had a chance.

Howie is an 8-month-old yellow lab who arrived at an emergency vet with a broken jaw and deep lacerations all over his legs - injuries consistent with being hit by a car. His jaw has to be held in place by a soft muzzle, and stitches cover his legs.

But here’s the incredible part.

Even stitched and splinted, Howie is described by our team and his foster home as “the most joyful boy in the world,” and “ALWAYS happy.”

That’s who he is. A spirit so warm and forgiving it could melt anyone.

His life could have ended that night because the cost of his medical treatment was too high, but we couldn't bear the thought, he has so much joy and life in his heart.
