DO NOT PLUCK DOG'S EAR HAIR.
Contrary to what we have previously been taught, requested or required, the current advice from veterinarians, who specialize in ears, is NOT to manipulate the hair of the ear canal, as it can do more harm than good.
Instead of preventing ear infections, this procedure can actually create a higher likelihood of infection by damaging the inner ear tissue, leaving the pores exposed allowing bacteria to enter and reproduce.
Therefore:
1. Keep in mind that most ear infections in our dogs are due to allergies, and the cause needs to be found.
2. It was thought that every time we plucked the hair out of the ear canal we did it thinking about the airflow of the canal, but this is not necessary.
3. If you start plucking your pet's ear hair chances are you will have to keep doing it and every time you do it exposes your dog to an ear infection so don't do it.
4. If your dog has healthy ears it's recommended not to touch them, this doesn't mean we won't check the ears on the outside, it's part of grooming the pet.
5. If you see you have some wax on the outside of the ear, clean it exclusively and exclusively on the outside, DO NOT insert Q tips, clamps, or any other type of objects.
6. In case we notice any abnormalities in the ear, the pet should be referred to be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian. ❤️🐾
