Jolene is one smart girl! šš¤
Erin reports that Jolene is house trained, crate trained, and is good with other dogs! Erin has made Joleneās crate her āsafe spaceā and she goes in nicely. Jolene also knows sit and shake! Sheās still a little shy around new people, but it doesnāt take her long to warm up. She even met the neighbors on a walk! Jolene is a quick learner and eager to please her people!
While sheās doing great, our end goal is to find her a forever home. After all sheās been through, Jolene deserves a happy ending!
Now safe, Jolene has been doing amazing in Erinās home! šš¾
Since being able to decompress and relax outside of the shelter, Jolene has been learning how to play with toys. Erin discovered she LOVES tennis balls and shared these pictures! As you can see, sheās never far away from a ball!
We are so happy that Jolene is getting comfortable and loving life outside of the shelter. Stay tuned for more updates!
Jolene was brought into Cobb County Animal Services in early January when she was found as a stray. Volunteers and staff were hopeful her person would come looking for her because her nails had looked recently trimmed and her coat was clean and soft. Unfortunately, no one came for her. Jolene was extremely terrified in the shelter. She would hide in the back of her cage and hunker down when people would walk by her. She was so scared, her first week she tried to escape from two different volunteers who were attempting to take her for walks.
After some time at CCAS, Jolene began to open up and trust certain staff members and volunteers. She even started learning how to play with toys! As she was starting to let her true personality shine, Jolene found herself on the kill list. Volunteers tried so hard to find her a forever home and get her out of the shelter. They filled her comment card with many good things in hopes a potential adopter would take a chance on her.
When our Intake Team was on-site trying to get those on the kill list out, they met Jolene and her confidant, Erin. As a CCAS volunteer, Erin had spent a lot of time working with Jolene. After speaking with Erin and seeing how much Jolene trusted her, we asked if Erin would foster Jolene to help her build her self-confidence with the end goal of finding her a forever home. In return, Our Palās Place would fund foster expenses. Erin agreed!!
We are so excited about Jolene getting the help she needs! Check back for updates! š
Zeke had been in the county shelter as long as the others on the kill list. He was found as a stray two months ago and no one came looking for him. Because he is on the smaller side, potential adopters would walk right by him, not even realizing he was there. Towards the end of his stay at the county shelter, he had been moved from the floor into the small dog room to give him one more chance to find a forever home. He was a long timer though, and would be next in line on the kill list if he didnāt get out soon. Because he is only 36 pounds and would comfortably fit into a crate, we decided to give him a better chance at O.P.P.!
Once he arrived at O.P.P., Zeke began to come out of his shell. Volunteers took him on a walk, and he had the best time! Zeke is a handsome, brindle boy with a fun personality and would be a great addition to your home! š
Happy Sunday!ššāļø
Did your four legged companions do ok through the storms?! Tank did! Claire reports that he is sleeping well and enjoyed his first pup cup! Determined to improve his health including getting excess weight off, Claire changed his name from Tank to Hank! š
With tears of joy, we are proud to report that Tank is home! šš«¶š„¹
During the drive from North Roswell Veterinary Clinic to meet Ms Claire, Tank decided to become co-pilot. He did an awesome job navigating from Roswell through the traffic to Woodstock/Towne Lake. Tank knew something good was awaiting him!
From the moment he met Claire and entered into her home, he had a smile on his face and acted as if theyād been together forever. He quickly found his way to the fenced yard, took a bathroom break (he seems to be very housetrained) and played fetch. Once inside, he looked at Claire for permission and when she said ok, he got up on the couch! He laid beside Claire as we discussed the foster home agreement and went through his medications and needed care. At one point, Tank took a deep breath of relaxation. Everything was now going to be ok. Never again will Tank find himself in a county shelterā¦ never.
It takes a village and united team to help dogs like Tank who seem to have everything working against them. To each and every one of YOU, thank you! Thank you for following Tankās story, for sending him PETs to get him not only to safety but into a loving home, and for helping us fundraise for his upcoming needed care. TOGETHER we did it!

Tank is safe!!š
After 67 long days in the county shelter, Tank finally got his freedom ride to safety! Volunteers and staff said their goodbyes and wished him luck as he heads into the next, and best, chapter of his life.
Thank you to everyone who shared Tankās story and sent him your PETs (Positive Energy & Thoughts)! Because of you, Tank is safe!
Now, Tank is on his way to North Roswell Veterinary Clinic to get some relief from his ear and skin infections. Check back as he journeys to what he hope is his final home and continue to send Tank lots of PETs! š
Tank desperately needs foster commitment today.
Our contact at Cobb County Animal Shelter was able to get Tank more time after we met him on Saturday, but that ends today.
Our Palās Place has a Senior Foster Program where we will pay for all expenses for the remainder of a seniorās life in return for a home accepting in the older dog. Tank is in desperate need of a senior foster home, so please spread the word!
If it is you who has the heart to open your home to help Tank, please contact us immediately as time is of the essence: [email protected]
Once again, a huge thank you to Sharin Love for using her platform to advocate for Tank and those who are in urgent need.
Poppyš
A Georgia-brown dog is easy to overlook in a crowded county shelter. Because they donāt have any āstrikingā physical features, many people walk by them without giving them a second glance. Poppy found herself in that situation at Cobb County Animal Services. People didnāt give her a chance to show them her sweet and fun personality. After almost FIVE months of patiently waiting and at only 2 years of age, Poppy found herself on the top of the kill list. When our team met her, they found a sweet girl who still had so much life and love to give. Poppy is a loving girl who just needed a second chance.
When she arrived at Our Palās Place, Poppy showed our volunteers just how grateful she was to be out of the county shelter. She went around the room and sat in everyoneās laps, giving kisses and hugs, and showed everyone just how full of love she is! Now, Poppy is excited to share her love with her future forever family!
Meet Simbaš
A 10 month old pup, Simba, found himself in the county shelter for the second time in his young life. He was terrified! The first time Simba was in the county shelter he was just 12 weeks old. He was adopted shortly after arrival but unfortunately returned when his person moved out of state and couldnāt take him along. Understandably confused and scared the second time in the county shelter, Simba would let out a fearful, big-dog bark to ward off strangers and then retreat to the back of his cell. This caused people to overlook him and after two long months, he ended up at the top of the kill list.
When our intake team saw him, we asked one of the county volunteers who he trusted to take him outside for us to meet him. Once outside, we found this large pup... now one year old... to be full of playfulness and love. We couldnāt leave this scared, sweet puppy to meet his fate that day so we took him to the safety of our Pet Adoption Facility.
Once at Our Palās Place, Simba began to relax. Our volunteers spent time with him in our yard where he was happy to run around and show off his amazing āsitā (for plenty of treats, of course!). Simba has a new, positive outlook on life and he canāt wait to share it with his future forever family!
Our Palās Place is working with the volunteers at Cobb County Animal Services to find sweet Tank a home. Tank has been given a few more days to get out of the county shelter otherwise he will return to the kill list for the final time.

Love isā¦ A Second Chance ā¤ļø
Our Pal's Place received a desperate plea from Cobb County Animal Services (CCAS) for help. The shelter was completely full and euthanizing for space would start in a mere few hours. Our Intake Team jumped into action and headed to CCAS to see what we could do to help.
The first on the shelter's kill list was Thor. He was a bigger boy who just needed to practice good manners. When our Intake Team took Thor outside to meet him, he stood for a long minute going to the bathroom (obviously housetrained) and then leaned on us for attention. Despite coming from a neglectful situation and being in the county shelter too long, Thor maintained an upbeat attitude and was very loving with us. We looked at each other and agreed there was no way we could let this boy be killed. That afternoon as the shelter was closing, we loaded Thor, Fig, Maggie, Nora and Mia into our transport van. The top of the kill list were now safe and enough spaces were opened in the county shelter that they did not have to euthanize.
On the first weekend Thor was with us, he met a family who was looking to add a new companion to their home. They clicked instantly! A Companion Match Form was submitted for Thor, now named Teddy, and within a week he was in his new home with The Sameit Family! A true story of going "from rags to riches"! All Teddy needed was a second chance.
