I haven’t put my snow plow away yet as I am trying not to jinx things… but today is going to be 50 degrees!!🥳

Yesterday, all of the horses were able to go out naked, the ground was thawed enough so I could drag, and I didn’t have to wear every article of clothing I own. I might have even gotten a little bit of sun on my skin. If you slow down, you can hear spring coming back to life. The morning birds are more active and I saw a fly yesterday while I sat and enjoyed my breakfast outside.

I think we’ve nearly made it out of another Maine winter. Keep hope in your heart. Spring is just around the corner.🌱

Woo hoo! Hooray for 2025 show season!🥳

💛

As a small but mighty organization we have set and met many goals over the last year and a half. Our primary goal of the 2024 season was to bring kindness and humanity back into the organization - to lift each other up in community and support. Our members did not disappoint and rose to this challenge.

Our goal for the 2025 season is to grow and expand, and this can’t happen without change.

We are excited to announce our NEW location for our Summer Classic further north to the beautiful Unexpected Farm in Wales, ME, home of the New England Spring Symposium. We hope to increase visibility and accessibility for more riders throughout the state while creating new experiences for our members.

We are also pleased to announce our Fall Finals will also move north, to our affiliated farm Life’s A Ride in S**o, ME! We can’t wait to utilize their multiple rings to keep your day flowing and fun over their beautiful and unique fences.

The sun is shining, the snow is melting, and as we crawl out of a tough winter we hope these thoughts of show season bring you joy 🩶

Shortly after I purchased Crouton in 2020, I thought “Holy cow. Did I make a mistake?” No one wanted to ride him (including me) because he was an anxious ball of nerves. I have a video somewhere of me attempting to ride him in our old indoor and he just went backwards the whole time spinning and nearly running me into the wall.

Crouton’s “kid” turned into a teenager today and their bond is something story tales are made of. Ava’s been working with him in the round pen on going bridleless. Today on her 13th birthday, the pair started with a halter and clip on reins but then Ava decided to go bridleless. Crouton walked around, stretched out and relaxed in the big jump field. This is proof if you give a horse a little time, love and patience they can be capable of so much.

Happy Birthday, Ava! Thank you for all of your dedication with Crouton no matter the weather. I am so proud of the equestrian you are growing into.

PS I do not regret adding Crouton to the herd. He is part of our family forever.🫶🏼

We’re making the best of things out here and enjoying this false spring weather this week. I think this was the first time since December that Georgia Pup only had to wear one sweater outside.

Snowy and slushy rides aren’t ideal but there are benefits. We’re having to get creative and get the horses comfortable riding in all different scenarios, footing and surfaces, which can reflect elsewhere whether that’s on a trail ride, at a horse show, off property at a clinic, etc. Giving them confidence to work through unusual things at home makes them more confident regardless of location.

❄️ Stretchy walk on the driveway having riders work on strengthening their core, balance and legs.

❄️ Resistance training. Ever been for a run on the beach in the sand? The horses have to work extra hard to engage, balance and move through the snow.

❄️ Finding accuracy by following a pattern created by trotting through the snow.

❄️ And let’s face it, it is pretty magical.

I’m proud of my horses and riders who have hung tight with me through a brutal winter. Bring on mud season!🫣

I ugly cried doing chores this morning.

My tractor plow broke and with wind gusts over 40mph slamming ice into my face while moving horses around, I was struggling.

This winter has been relentlessly brutal. The past several weeks the elements have been too dangerous to ride or teach so most of my days are spent plowing, keeping critters happy, and thawing out inbetween. It’s been a rough stretch but the moment I feel like giving up, my community comes in to help me back to my feet.

Thanks to Matt, Aili & Henley for coming to my rescue today calling in a welder to get my plow back up n’ running and pushing some snow for me.

A couple other God moments happened today that reminded me I’m right where I need to be even though life continues to test me. It sure does take a village and dang do I have a good one.

Here’s a photo dump from the Arctic tundra. We’re making the best of it out here.

✨Perseverance✨
I read an article recently that said this is the coldest winter Maine has had in 15 years. Neat!

Ya’ll.
I’m tired.
The cold has been so extreme that I’ve hardly been able to conduct lessons but that doesn’t mean the workload gets any lighter. It’s constant plowing, mucking stalls, carrying buckets of water, ordering hay, repeat. Thank goodness I’ve had some extra hands to help and praise God all of the horses are managing well.

I have to remind myself that winter is always hard but we always get through it. The days are getting longer which means warmer days are coming. I cannot wait to feel the joy of spring once the last of the snow melts, whenever that might be.

37 days till spring but who’s counting…

January 31st marked 3 years having horses at home. We eased into having the whole herd here as I was still teaching at our old barn and getting our new barn horse ready because well, it wasn’t.

Paddington and Maple were the first to come home and I remember that day so vividly. It was a childhood dream come true to have horses in my yard and as much as it has become my normal, the magic of it will never fade.

When we moved them home, we only had 1 paddock with no run-in. Most of the water had to be carried out from the kitchen sink. 2 stalls and the barn was filled with trash. A lot has changed since then but I am proud to call this barn home and that many others feel they can call it home, too. It is such a special place.

Cheers to 3 years and to many, many more! 🥂

On Saturday evening, we celebrated the Maine Hunter Jumper Association’s 2024 Year End Awards Banquet!🥳

It’s always a fun time when us horse people have an excuse to get dressed up. I’m curious how many of us did night check in heels and dresses when we all got back to our farms post banquet.🙋🏼‍♀️

I love being a part of this association and having a spot on the board. It’s been pretty special to be President but now I will be moving into the VP seat or “Hype Girl” as I have decided to title myself. I love encouraging kindess, teamwork and reminding myself and others why we do what we do and continuing to grow our hunter-jumper community here in Maine.🌲

I spent my last day of 2024 doing something I love the most: Riding on the beach. The cherry on top is I got to share it with some of my favorite people under the sun.

2024 was a wild and bumpy ride but I am so blessed for the people who keep showing up for me and my girls and lifting me up when I need it most. And not to forget our horses who are my greatest teachers and healers.

I can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for Windsong Equestrian and this safe haven I am so lucky to call “home”.

Cheers to many more horsey adventures! Happy New Years, ya’ll!

I was able to help make a girl’s Christmas Pony Dreams come true!🎁 I have referred to Crouton as Ava’s pony for a while now but this makes it extra special to make it official.

Congratulations to Ava on her lease of Crouton! And Crouton is a pretty lucky pony to have a sweet girl to call his own.🥰

24/12/2024

T’was the night before Christmas and I'm out at the barn blanketing my horses to keep them all warm.

They're munching on hay, tucked cozy in stalls. Not aware that it's Christmas or a special time at all.

They dream of green pastures from their pine-scented beds. No visions of sugarplums dance in their heads.

This season is special, but the horses don't know. They safely eat their hay out of the cold.

It's nearly midnight now, the songs are all sung, then I remember a story told when I was young.

How our horses can all speak to us with ease and delight, on this very special Christmas Eve night.

I walk to the stable, going thru the barnyard. Reasons unknown, a calling I can’t disregard. I slide open the door stand there and smile. Then slowly I walk down the dimly lit aisle.

A nicker from Odin, a soft snort from Crouton, the twinkle from Spumoni’s bright blue eyes have my heart racing on. Wild wakes from a slumber gently lifting his head then lets out a sigh and goes back to bed.

Next comes Maple and Peaches who prick their ears forward so sweet as they bat their eyes and bed for a treat.

Paddington and Jack come into sight as I reach into my pocket for peppermints that they both crunch with delight. Their breath billows into gentle clouds and I smile knowing all is right because their presence makes me feel warmer as I walk through the frigid Maine night.

I think about parties bright lit and warm, the ones we don't go to because of the farm. And vacations and holidays that we usually don't get, because of the animals and chores to be met.

Walking back to the end of the peaceful barn aisle, I stop to stroke Paddy, and linger awhile.

The horses stop eating, their ears they all lend, and together we all recall some lost friends.

King and Willie watch over us from their cloud feather beds where tonight and always they will rest their heads. And there is one more friend who has joined the heavenly herd; a special dog named Sullivan who spends this Christmas with them in heaven.

I could be at parties with laughter and mirth. But here, where I am right now is the best place on Earth.

Merry Christmas from our herd to yours!🎄

With Love,
Lindsay, Rosie, Daisy, Paddington, Jack, Odin, Crouton, Maple, Peaches, Spumoni, Wild & Georgia.
