When I say Blue Spruce Meadow is a little slice of Heaven, I truly mean it! The wintery scenes we're treated to once in a blue moon here make this little hobby farm look like something straight from a Thomas Kinkade😍

📢The front, road facing fence is finally going up!
Before the cold weather sets in, it's imperative I get this line completed since the majority of the holes are in rock.
After post are finished setting, all perimeter fencing will consist of 5-foot galvanized metal mesh wire with 2x6 boards at the top and bottom of the mesh. At the very top of the post and right above the ground, the finishing component of the fencing will be smooth hot wire to serve 3 purposes:
1️⃣ To discourage small critters from crawling under the bottom board but allow water to continue it's natural course of the land, avoiding mud buildup.
2️⃣ To discourage horses from grazing under the bottom board.
3️⃣ To discourage horses from socializing over the top of the fence line (or jumping in the case of future mustangs)

‼The total height of the fences meet the required 6-foot height per government standards for gentled AND ungentled animals

Been a long time since I posted any updates around the farm.
So, here we are!

Finally got a portion of the fencing up. This section doubles as horse fencing and the dog yard that surrounds the house! 5 feet tall metal mesh wire panels keep the dogs in and other animals out. This is also the government required height for mustang 🐎 yearlings. The remainder of the horse fencing will be 6 feet tall, which is the requirement for any mustangs 🐎 older than yearlings.

And my last small improvement was upgrading some of the landscaping around the logs out front🏡

Took a little bit of time to finally get going, but the front fence line, connecting to the gates, is in progress💪

With spring coming in strong, it's time for maintenance and planting around the farm. Check out the newest addition to the flora around the property - a Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud.

Check out these figs I was able to harvest before the insects smothered them. So soft and warm, fresh from the sun!

The first collection of the chestnuts was a success!!!
Many more husks are falling each day, so now it's a race between the squirrels, deer and I!

I'll be putting some of these away and making small batches of candied chestnuts (Marrons Glacé).

It's those quiet evenings right after the rain, the blooms renewed with the water, the dampened scents of nature, the treetops ablaze with the remaining fragments of sunlight. Those evening that make all the time spent working on the farm absolutely worth every second!

All power poles and remaining lights were finally installed Monday! ! !
Several perks come from this improvement:
⚜️No guide wires were required for the poles added in the pasture
⚜️Increased safety for visibility at nighttime
⚜️Illumination of both sides of pasture that border roads = extra farm security
⚜️Arena light was installed
⚜️All lights are dusk to dawn, allowing for 24/7 farm activity

Getting work done around the farm is made loads easier with this handy tool!
Ace's 2 wheel, 6 cubic foot metal tray wheelbarrow is probably the best value on the market, ensuring a long product lifetime while making jobs less strenuous.
Definitely a keeper in the tool shed!

Check out these cool views from the tree house🏡🌳!!!

This is looking out over the area that will eventually be home to the 50 foot round pen, specifically built to BLM standards of 6 feet high. The round pen will be located on level ground, constructed completely of wood, have plentiful shade under the old oaks and have the benefit of light to work horses after sundown.

Once repairs are completed on the tree house, this will be a prime viewing spot to watch the horses/mustangs working in the round pen!

Gates are officially on order❗️ Front gate posts will be going in this weekend.
Wire filled gates keep the horses from pawing at the gates and make it harder for smaller critters to slip between. There will be plenty of room to hang halters and leads as well!

All in all, there will be two gates, 8ft, for access to the pasture, one gate, 4ft, for the "dog yard" and two gates, 12ft, for access to Blue Spruce Meadow. Front access to the farm will allow for a width of twenty four feet once opened!
