🌟Final call for Gifted Memorial Fund for Adult Amateurs Grant Applications!🌟
All applications are due Sunday, September 15 by midnight.
The Gifted Memorial Fund for Adult Amateurs was established with donations in remembrance of Carol Lavell’s great dressage horse, Gifted.
These grants are meant for adult amateurs to have the opportunity to be in an extended training situation (one week of concentrated training) that is different from their normal training plan.
- Up to nine $1,500 grants are available (one for each USDF Region).
- Two additional $1,500 wild card grants are also available, which can be awarded in any region.
Preference is given to applicants with a strong history of volunteerism, especially within their GMOs. The best applications include a training program of 5-7 consecutive days with the same trainer. However, it is not required that you travel away from home. Training plans must have reasonable, attainable goals.
Learn more and apply by September 15 at https://bit.ly/44dXCtN

RAAC Championships/ SVE was a great show! Cheerio made a great debut in the materiale class. and Rico excelled once again at Second Level proving they’re ready to hop up to Third! *Bronze Medal here we come! And and Primetime finished 5th in the RAAC Finals at First Level, and proved they’re ready to dip their toes in the Second Level waters!
So much fun with this group of girls, inspiring riders and badass Mama’s! 100% could not have done this show without their team effort. They literally hauled Cheerio and got him all set up as I was on a flight back to Sac from Atl. ✨🤍 Grateful to have found my tribe!

My go to Custom Saddlery saddle for anything a touch more behind the leg! Its open seat doesn’t quite suck you in as much, so gives more freedom to slosh around a touch in the saddle and doesn’t make your leg and seat clamp down.
The Wolfgang Omni has a deep, generous seat for close contact and allows you the freedom, support, and control you need without restriction.

Überstreichen:
Translated from the German, über means over, and streichen means to stroke or pet. Put simply, überstreichen is slacking of the reins by moving both hands forward along the horse’s neck for several strides, demonstrating that the horse is in self-carriage. During this release, the tempo, balance and outline of the horse should not change. It can also be a test of diagonal connection – inside leg to outside rein, and bend by just releasing the inside rein for several strides while riding on a curved line, the goal being that the bend and balance remain the same. In both cases the reins are taken softly back up afterward.

Can you direct your horse’s hind leg by just pointing your finger? ☝🏼 Ground work is SO important to me in training. How horses act on the ground is usually a direct reflection of how they will be under saddle (there’s always outliers, but generally speaking). One interesting “cowboy” concept that I learned over the years is to be in charge of the herd the Alpha mare controls the speed and direction in which the herd goes. So with horses as long as you are controlling the speed and direction you are in charge. This has been especially helpful with loading horses. I used to do all the tricks in the book, lunge lines, whips, shanks. Now I’ve learned to teach them to self-load. It’s so much safer for everyone (including them!) involved. Also when they stale mate you and just wont move, just try to keep their feet moving! These ground work exercises also help back up what we are working on under saddle without the added stress of me being on him. Last week I really started playing with this stuff (he’s due for shoes so ground work is a great thing to do instead of riding). I find these exercises to also be really bonding and the bond is SO important to me. When I get a new horse in training I like to do some of the grooming myself (as time allows) because I feel it’s so important to create that bond and get to know each other. Ground work exercises to play with: 1. Will he walk next to me and go faster/slower as I pick up my pace? 2. If I stop will he not pass my shoulder or turn into me? (Cue voice command WHOA- I love knowing I have brakes, LOL) 3. If I back up will he back up? (I start by just turning and looking at him and gently touching his chest) 4. If I point (may have to lightly touch his flank at first) at his inside hind leg will he cross it over? (This is literally going to be a turn on the forehand which are SO helpful) 5. Introducing the whip, if I touch any leg will he lift up that leg? (Bonus points will he hold it up until I rel
