If all you’re doing with your horse is chiro and/or PEMF then you aren’t taking care of your horse’s musculoskeletal system. You may think you are, but you aren’t.

You’ll also find that each individual massage therapist, and other types of soft tissue workers, will differ in their approach, and so will vary in their effectiveness.

Function will follow form which means if the muscles are tight, imbalanced or set in a particular functional pattern, that’s how your horse will go. To interrupt the set in their ways muscle (and neuromuscular) patterns and help your horse move forward towards a more functional, higher performing ambidexterity, find yourself an effective, experienced massage therapist, preferably one with a solid sport horse background. Even your backyard horse will benefit from it.

Ulcers and Massage

Equine gastric ulcers are fairly common in horses. According to studies, up to 90% of racehorses and up to 60% of other performance horses may develop gastric ulcers at some point in their lives. They can affect any horse at any age.

Hindgut ulcers are less common than gastric ulcers, but have been reported to affect 44 – 63% of horses. It’s possible for a horse to have both gastric and hindgut ulcers at the same time.

Hi everyone! I know I’ve been very inactive, with finishing college and moving, but I am happy to say I am continuing to take clients again. Although now that I have moved I am solely building my client base in Texas.

I am now located in Aubrey, TX! I am so excited to start building new relationships here and continuing my massage work.

Hi everyone! I just want to send out an announcement as I’m so excited to share Stand By Me Equine is growing every day.

With this being said…my rates will also be reflecting the experience and knowledge I have gained. 1 hour massages will now be $75 instead of $65. And my barn deal will be $60 per horse for three or more horses instead of $50.

This will be starting November 1st. I appreciate everyones overwhelming support!

Hi everyone! A lot of my clients know this already but if you didn’t I’m currently getting my degree in Equine Science at UMass Amherst. Recently we had a project to create an infographic about any topic related to Equine Science and share it with our peers. Of course I had to make mine on massage. There is so much more to learn about the research and the science behind massage and this infographic in a great starting point just to get a glimpse into why massage has become a great tool for our equine athletes. I wanted to share my project with my audience and spread some of that knowledge to keep out horses feeling great!🐴

Had an amazing day yesterday Through Motion, Inc. 5 of their super hard working horses got some of the relaxation they deserve.

This is Nala… 13 y/o QH. Owner expressed to me a few different concerns about Nala and throughout her massage we were able to pinpoint and find a few areas she needed a little work. We particularly noticed a dramatic reaction on the inside of her left stifle and behind her hamstring on her adductor/gracills. Stretching after your ride is a great way to help keep those muscles loose after a workout. (After all you wouldnt not stretch after your own work out right?) Although I have heard from a few clients that they don’t know where to start or they’ve run out of stretches. Below is an article that can help you stretch your horse if they are facing some of the same soreness/tension as Nala

https://drpatbona.com/10-essential-stretches-horse/

Here we can see the before and after of the right shoulder and notice some of her tightness soften. I can’t wait to hear how Nala feels on her next ride!

Also excited to say I am booking October and November appointments😄

Stan was a super sleepy boy for his massage today…but I loved seeing his before and after.

Stanford as many of you know is who I named my business after. So it’s always fun getting to see him relax once in a while since he works so hard for our lesson program.

From knowing Stan these last couple years he usually presents with stiffness in his shoulder and hind end/stifle. As we keep working together the fibers in his muscles will become less tight and compact. What I like to stress to my clients is that massage is not a one time fix. Our horses are hard working athletes and massage should be used as maintenance tool to keep them limber and free from injury.

I’m also still booking for September!🐴

“He’s a little girthy when I cinch him up”
“Yeah he won’t be so stiff after I ride for 10 minutes”

These are just a couple things clients have said to me when we first meet. These things are not normal!! (Although can be improved!) Massage is a great way to loosen the fascia under the skin and relax the muscles of your equine athlete. If you have ever said these things about your horse, massage might be worth looking into.

This is also why I am offering new clients their first massage half off for $35 for an hour massage when you mention this post. (In contrast to my usual rate of $65 per massage) Let me show you how massage can help your horse feel their best. DM me for more information.

As we are in the middle of this busy summer show season, it’s common to see our horses building up more tension in their muscles causing them to be a more stiff under saddle.

Massage is an awesome way to help get the blood flowing again along with so many other benefits including🐴

-Relieving discomfort for girthy horses
- blood circulation
-Relaxation and stress relief
-Injury prevention
-increased flexibility and range of motion

Here is a great short article more about it by the school I used!

*I am continuing to still book clients August through September!*

- 1 hour massage $65
