Yesterday morning, Blair got her freedom ride from the shelter!

Before heading to her foster home, she went to the vet to finish up her vaccines, have an exam, and have a f***l and heartworm test done. The vet believes she is around 8 years old and has had multiple litters.

And sadly, she is heartworm positive.

We planned to let her get settled into her foster home for a few days before having a full work up done. But this morning, her foster mom noticed that she had a really bad cough, was lethargic, and wouldn’t eat or drink. So she immediately got her to the vet.

With the state she was in, it was best to hospitalize her for at least 24hrs. They did a blood smear, X-rays, and bloodwork, and started her on meds.

The blood smear showed a large amount of heartworms, including a ton of microflaria. Xrays showed enlargement of the left side of her heart, damage and scaring to her lungs, and fluid around her lungs due to the heartworms. They worked on draining the fluid and started her on steroids and lasix.
Thankfully her bloodwork looked really good.

Unfortunately this means that, while Blair’s heartworm treatment is necessary, it will be very high risk and she will have to be on very strict kennel rest for at least a month. Once we get an update from the vet in the morning, we will develop a plan to start her treatment.

Right now, our girl needs all the love and prayers sent her way. She has already lived a terrible life, and we are determined to make her golden years the best years of her life!

We are happy to announce that Kali, Faye, and Blair are all safe and will be leaving the shelter this week! We are so grateful for their foster families for opening up their homes and hearts for those sweet girls!

However, we are still desperately trying to find fosters for these two babies who are both in extreme risk. Hector is the longest resident and Ana is still shy. The director will use both of these reasons to euthanize regardless if there are kennels open.

‼️URGENT - FOSTERS NEEDED‼️

We desperately want to help more dogs in need, but we cannot do so without more committed fosters.

These 5 dogs are currently at Russell County-Phenix City Animal Shelter, which is an extremely high kill shelter. All 5 are considered at risk and can be euthanized at any time.

❤️ADOPTED❤️

Little Octavia is back due to no fault of her own! She had spent the past week settling into her foster home. She has been doing great and is now ready to find her furever!

This sweet, spunky little girl is just over 8 months old and around 15ish pounds (we do not forsee her getting much bigger). She is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She loves to spend her day playing with all her foster siblings (both dog and cat), and then spend the night snuggled up in bed with her foster parents. She is fully vetted and house and crate trained if kept on a schedule.

Today we honor the beautiful boy who inspired our founder to keep his memory alive by helping others just like she did him.

Cruiser not only helped her discover her love for rescue, but her love for the hard cases. The scared ones. The misunderstood ones. The forgotten ones.

While we aim to help any and all dogs we can, those special ones will always pull at our hearts the most. Because, as Cruiser taught us, every dog deserves a chance at a happily ever after, even if we have to work harder for it.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Cruiser. You were and are loved beyond measure. We will always keep fighting for those like you. ❤️❤️

Must Have Monday!

Please help us welcome the newest addition to our rescue family, Archie.

When we first spoke with his owners, we were told that they could no longer care for him and needed to find a new home for him. They also informed us that he had just started to have issues with his ears. After meeting Archie and getting his vet records, we knew this wasn’t the case.

While he does have an extreme ear infection, he also has skin irritation and a limp in his front leg. The only vet records are from Nov 2024 when he was seen about an ear infection and hematoma and an extreme flea infestation. The vet had recommended a cytology to determine what the infection was and how to treat it, as well as surgery to repair the hematoma. However his owners declined both. Now, 2 months later, the infection is still there and the hematoma has dried up and his ear is now hard and deformed.

We are determined to get Archie the care he needs, but we need your help to do so! He will be headed to the vet this afternoon and we know for sure he will need an ear cytology, vaccinations, f***l/heartworm tests, neuter surgery, and microchip. He may also need X-rays for his leg and a skin scrape, as well as anything else deemed necessary by our vet.

Ashlyn is hoping that you all had a wonderful and safe Christmas!

While she didn’t get her Christmas wish of a forever family, she still enjoyed the day in her loving foster home.

While he knows that his foster mom will make his first Christmas great, he’s really hoping that Santa will bring him a forever family!

Cyprus spent his Monday dreaming of finding his furever home before Christmas!

While we have not been able to intake due to lack of fosters and donations, we still have wonderful babies in our care who are looking for their furever families.

Cyprus is about 9 months old and around 30lbs. He is a very active boy and LOVES to run and play. He is crate and house trained. He is still working on basic manners and how to control some of his puppy impulses, but with consistent training we know he will blossom into a wonderful guy!

Little Octavia is back at no fault of her own, nor her potential adopters. Sometimes life hits hard and we have to make decisions that are best for everyone. So now that she is back in foster care, she would like to ask for your help.

⭐️Spotlight Sunday⭐️

Cyprus has been enjoying his time in his foster home receiving all the love and care that he never got for the first 7 months of his life.

Unfortunately, his foster brother (resident dog) tore his ACL and is going to require surgery. Afterwards, he will be on strict kennel rest for several weeks.

Due to this, Cyprus is in need of a new foster home, or even an adoptive home!

Cyprus is about 9 months old and around 25lbs. He is a very active boy and LOVES to run and play. He is still working on basic manners and how to control some of his puppy impulses, but with consistent training we know he will blossom into a wonderful guy!
