Between the rain last Saturday morning we finally had our first riding session of the year. Everyone was excited for the riding and to use our new mounting ramp.
A huge thank you to Samuel Winkels, a high school student, for building it for us. And to Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up whose grant provided part of the money for lumber.
Let’s listen as Streak tells his pasture mates about our first riding session of the year.
"It was great! I got to see two of my riders today. I am so glad I was feeling better so I could be with my riders. My riders were gentle and they remembered how to let me know what they wanted me to do. When my second rider got on and picked up the reins I could feel his confidence and his joy. That made me more confident in him and I wanted to do my best for him.
He really tries and is becoming a good rider.
Now I need a nap. I hope I'm up to be giving rides again next time."

Streak realizes that he is not in the best health. We need another horse or pony for our riders. If you have or know of someone who has a horse that we could lease for our riding sessions please call or email me. We also need volunteers to help with the riding. And help putting our new shed together.

This Saturday, June 1, the WagonWheel's HUB will have our first therapeutic riding session of the year.

Also, we are searching for another horse to join our herd. We need a small horse or large pony for some of our riders.

We lease horses and with a lease, we can have the horse live at the farm where we ride. Or the owner can bring the horse to the farm on the day the horse is needed. If you have a horse we could use email or call us.

Horses are amazing animals. They bring joy because of their beauty. And they bring hope to anyone who has a disability. A horse accepts you no matter the disability letting you know how special you are. And by riding them they help with muscle tone to help with a person's balance and ability to walk. Also, the ability to focus as the rider learns to help direct the horse. This leads the riders to gain confidence in themselves.
Because of the combination of weather and one of our horses having a bruised hoof we had to cancel riding sessions last Saturday. The weather looks good for this Saturday to have our riding sessions. We will have riding sessions as long as it is warm enough.
Because we are growing and one of our horses is lame we are starting to look for another horse to help our present and future riders.
If you know of a horse that needs a new job that we could lease let us know.

I have had COVID-19 and it really gave me a hard blow. They tell me I have long COVID-19. I am finally starting to do better.

I want to thank People's Energy Cooperative's Operation Round-Up for the grant we received to help us fund a mounting ramp.
And also Pizza Ranch who let us have a fundraiser. Our participants and volunteers did a great job. Between the two we now have enough money to buy the materials for the ramp. The Austin High School's Industrial Arts class is building the ramp. Having a mounting ramp will help us serve participants who cannot walk up the steps.

Last Saturday we had riding sessions after canceling sessions because of COVID-19. Everyone was excited to once again see our volunteers and participants.

We are planning to have riding sessions through October and we'll see how warm it is in November.

We always welcome new participants and volunteers.

It was 15 minutes by the time Grady Bettys was ready to bring his horse ride to an end Saturday morning. But for his parents, it might as well been for the entire morning. They couldn’t be happier. Kayla and Jake Bettys walked (and sometimes ran) next to the horse as their son, who is […]
