I am thrilled to announce that GPT is restructuring to a new business model. As much as I love relocating pets, and I do love it. That time was the highlight of any work I've ever done, it just wasn't possible for me to sustain, maintaining the level of service that I insisted on, that you, my customers were promised and expected, and that your four legged loved ones deserve, while still offering competitive rates.

I have been driving professionally for 26 of my 47 years on this big blue marble in the sky, and I'm continuing to do so.

I started by driving 18-wheelers from coast to coast. Ridesharing hit the scene about the same time I went into semi-retirement, so I jumped on board driving for both Uber and Lyft for 10 years. Watching those companies decline over the course of a decade left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I wanted something more, something better. I started with another company, much like Uber & Lyft, but instead of them taking the bulk of the fare and you running around like a madman all day long trying to make $3 more and tips were pretty scarce, you were booked in advance, usually for a 6-9 hour block. The hourly rate was good and you kept the bulk of it, you drove your client's vehicle and, at the end of the night, if the client didn't hand you $100 tip, it left you wondering if you screwed up somewhere. This was white glove service, black suit and tie, open and close the doors kinda thing... And I dig it. I took a break from that while starting up GPT, and stepped back into it after deciding to shut it down.

That company was acquired by another and, operationally, things are still really good. Unfortunately, the volume just isn't there, sometimes going 5 weeks between gigs.

So, that's it... That's what I'm going to provide, exactly what I've been doing. There won't be an app to book through and I'm the only driver, but if you're in the Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas triangle and need a professional chauffeur at a reasonable rate, or know of someone who could benefit from my service, I'd appreciate the shout out because you guys are the only good, verifiable reviewers of this business and me personally.

It dawned on me that I hadn’t posted an update on my girl, Eesah.

She’s always had to be sedated to go to the vet in Austin. Because of the amount of weight she’d lost and how lethargic she was, we weren’t comfortable doing that. We decided to take her to her kittenhood vet in Dallas. Her weight loss was even worse than I had thought. Last April, she weighed 11.1 lbs. Thursday, she was 6.8.

She saw Dr. Dunn last Thursday and then we drove back home. Dr. Dunn called late Friday morning with the diagnosis… feline diabetes with keto acidosis.

We started her on insulin injections on Friday evening and we had her prescription food and started that on Saturday evening.

Already, we’re seeing a night and day difference in just about every aspect of her life. She’s not isolating herself as much. She’s eating all of her food. She’s tolerating the injections well. Mostly, she doesn’t like being scruffed, but doesn’t seem to mind the actual injection much.

We couldn’t be happier with her progress and both us and the vet are optimistic and hopeful that she will finish out her life like a normal, healthy kitty.

After a lot of thought, I’ve made the agonizing decision to close the doors. It has been painfully clear that I cannot provide the level of service that I demand while remaining both profitable and competitive. We have pretty much drained our savings and destroyed our credit trying to get this going and keep it running and, on my last trip, I actually had to sell something to cover gas to get me home. I’d like to thank all of you who have been supportive and done business with us. You all have been great. I’ve lived doing this job, and am going to miss it, especially my canine and feline clients, dearly.

I think that you’d all agree with me that you’d do anything in your power to make your fur baby feel better if you could. One of my babies has experienced two major emotional traumas in her life. The first, when her big brother, her rock, passed away very suddenly. The second was when her daddy started a business that had him away from home 90% of the time. She’s been showing signs of major depression and started wasting away. It’s within my power to do something, and I’m damn sure gonna do it. It’s with a heavy heart that I’m announcing, not a closure, but a temporary stand down, until my husband and I can get this issue figured out and resolved. I have one more reservation on the books, but not planning on taking any more for a little while. This isn’t farewell, but see you soon.
