I'm very sad to report that Indie passed away from cancer in October. After consulting with the oncologist, she took oral chemotherapy for a few weeks, but then it started making her sick, so we stopped it. We got hydrocodone soon after she started coughing, and it virtually eliminated the cough. She seemed quite well and kept wanting to take walks until one morning when she suddenly started breathing shallowly and rapidly. I waited a few hours, but her breathing didn't return to normal. After a brief exam Dr. Wilson said Indie had liquid in her lungs and nothing else could be done to make her feel well, so I opted to euthanize her then so she wouldn't suffer. She passed surrounded by love and being reminded of what a great dog she is.

Last week we scattered Indie's ashes in the field and woods where she liked to run around and explore with Cash. It felt good to set her free, but we still miss her terribly. My deepest gratitude to everyone who helped rescue Indie and bring her into our lives.

RIP Indie, aka: Indiana Bones, Bones, The Leapin' Lizard, The Baby, and Barky McBarkerson.

Please keep Indie in your thoughts and prayers, as she has cancer. She underwent a mastectomy in July within a week of finding a suspicious lump, but when the oncologist could see her four weeks later, the cancer had spread into her lungs anyway. She was taking oral chemotherapy for a few weeks, but then it started making her sick. She currently seems to be feeling well taking hydrocodone to eliminate coughing and an anti-nauseant to keep her appetite up, and will be checking in with the oncologist again in about a week. My main goal is to keep her out of pain and distress, so we're giving her lots of hugs, love, and field trips while we can.

Maybe I'll try an upward dog... or maybe I'll just rest here in child's pose for a bit. :)

Indie had been slowing down a bit, then bloodwork revealed that she has low thyroid. Now after a few weeks on her thyroid meds, she's back to her energetic, enthusiastic self, and has even started losing weight. Indie's such a sweetheart that it makes me very happy to see her feeling great again!

I like the beanbag a lot, but seriously, when are you going to leave so I can sleep on the couch again?

Good news - the lab said Indie's tumor was a low grade, and the cells around the perimeter of the tissue removed were all normal. So it should not return in that location. :)

Hi All, Please send healing thoughts to Indie. In this photo you can kind of see a little lump on her side/back. The doctor checked that yesterday and said it's a mast-cell tumor. So tomorrow Indie's going in for surgery to have it removed. Apparently this is an aggressive type of tumor, so they have to remove a large area surrounding the lump to make sure they get it all. The good news is that the location of Indie's growth is conducive to getting the surrounding area removed and still having enough flesh to join together for healing. Dr. Wilson also said that getting this once doesn't mean there's a propensity for it to recur, so this all has a very good outlook. Also, Indie seems to feel great. She was out running and leaping as usual on our walk this morning, so hopefully once she heals up from the incision she'll be feeling tip-top again.
