Final update: I’m so very heartbroken to report that after a thorough evaluation by 2 vets who I trust with my own personal dogs, it was determined that this little baby girl who I named Duchess was not compatible with life in this world. Her brain was swollen (confirmed with xray), she was walking in right circles repeatedly, frantic when handled, clenching her jaw forcefully without cause, deaf, and blind with eyes that opened but had no pupil reaction. We did bloodwork and we ran tests to see if there was anything at all we could do but also so that we know what the other puppy that was with her may or may not be exposed to. For Duchess, the only merciful thing we could do was let her go.
We never euthanize on a whim and I will always cry when we do. I can’t be stoic and hardened like some of my rescue friends are. Man I wish I could but it hurts every time.
We’re so sorry, Duchess, that we couldn’t save you. We hope we can save your mom and brother in your honor ❤️.
Update: I spoke with the vet. She is very very very sick and It is unlikely she will make it. We are testing and trying to see what can be done if anything at all. So far the other pup and mom seem healthy. Send prayers ❤️
***PUPPY FOSTER NEEDED***
This baby was found in a box on the side of the road in Lonoke. There was a momma dog and another puppy that seem otherwise healthy. We’ll share about them later but for now this one needs help and we’re getting her to the vet immediately. She’s going to need a foster. There’s concerns for blindness.
