Daisy Update!
Watch that slow progressive head tilt as she finally decides to look at me rather than take the food! This girl has so much sass in her expressions! She is a blast to work with and has such a hilarious personality!

Daisy is doing very well learning “leave it”. Eventually this command translates into stopping all unwanted behavior. Rather than “stop” “get down” “don’t bark” “don’t touch” etc, here at Sir Winston’s School for Canines we train with “Leave it”. We eliminate all the extra words and all the frustration by simply teaching pups that leave it means to stop whatever you are doing and look at your handler!

Daisy Update!
Life has thrown some curveballs here lately so I’ve been behind on posting but we are catching up now!
This is from a while back but Daisy caught onto leave it very quickly. Second only to our dear Winston, Daisy has proven to be the laziest pup I’ve ever trained. While some pups take the first several minutes of a session to calm down and focus in, Daisy starts each session needing encouragement to get up and work. Such laziness in a pup has been quite comical to work with. We’ve had moments of battle where she felt a nap was more important than listening. But she has grown so much and has started making much better choices. Stay tuned and I’ll be posting several more updates with her as we’ve had a few sessions unposted.

Meet Liberty! Liberty is a 9 month old black lab pup but even at such a young age she was already very fearful of new people and developing human aggression. The day I met her I had forgotten my camera. I still kick myself for it because she would have been such a neat before and after video! During Liberty’s consultation she exhibited a great deal of insecurity! This led to a world of poor choices including cowering, growling, running and so much more. We are two sessions in and she has already grown so much! Her parents were worried how she would do in training and were expecting a difficult road but with a some guidance and structure added into her life she is transforming into such a sweet lovable pup!

Meet Molly! Molly is a 3 month old F1 Golden Doodle. She is a super sweet pup but it is already very obvious that she is going to be a pretty big girl when she grows up. She is already a big jumper and stronger than she looks, these can both be big problems as she grows if they don’t get on top of things now. We are getting a head start on training Molly now so that when she is grown her owners won’t have to worry about her size factoring into things.

Don’t we all have those moments though! Tug and his boy were having a bit of a struggle this morning. Thankfully mom stepped in to help. Tug is doing well with training but some times he likes to push his limits a little while working with the little guy. These two aren’t so different in size so we are working on getting Parker the right tools to better communicate his authority to Tug.

Tug is doing so well with training. He’s still a little guy but he is so smart! He’s doing a great job learning impulse control and “leave it”.
Impulse control is so important! Impulse control has often been what made the difference between life and death for a dogs.
It’s never to late to start teaching your dogs how to control their urges!

Meet Daisy! Daisy is our newest student. She is a 9 month old Rottweiler pup. This little pup is super sweet and playful but doesn’t quite realize how big she is. We will be working on basic obedience coupled manners on how to greet people properly. All dogs need to learn how to behave properly, however because of the breed dog that she is people are in errantly more nervous. Look at this little mama go! She is doing such a great job! She was a bit disappointed last week when she didn’t get to be a part of training but she sat so nicely, listened, and watched closely during our lesson and was more than ready to tackle training this week! It is so important that dogs learn to respect all the humans in the house no matter their size. Ruthie you are doing such a great job!

Jeremiah is doing a great job with McKinley! He is working specifically on eye contact. He waits for that eye contact before instructing her he also rewards her eye contact. This is so important in training! We want to capture these moments of her focusing on her handler. The more we capture it now the greater it will be as she grows older and is around more distractions. She is responding great to Jeremiah’s directions! (I apologize for the video this kid keeps growing and making it hard to keep him in the frame!)

This is only McKinleys second lesson but thanks to these little trainers she is doing fantastic! There is nothing I love more than seeing the whole family get involved with training! This family is putting in the hours of work and already seeing great results in their puppy!

Place work is a new concept for McKinley but James is doing well at reinforcing it. He is giving her space and then correcting her and putting her back as she breaks place. He is also doing great at timing! He is changing the timing up each time to reinforce listening and prevent her from anticipating what he might do next. Great Job James!!!

Gracie is always the first to volunteer to help out during a training session. She listens very well to instruction and implements this exactly as I instruct. Gracie isn’t very big yet but she does a great job compensating for that in training by being calm and firm with her instructions. McKinley is learning to respect all the members of this household as they are all working so hard with her. Keep up the good work sweet girl!

Meet McKinley Rose, our newest student. McKinley is a sweet little pup and we are excited to see how she’ll grow through her training! She is a Micro Mini Golden Doodle. She is still young so she’ll be working on all the basic foundational training as we start but we’ll also be working on calming her mind. She tends to be a barker and is also displaying some nervousness around new people which leads to growling or hiding. Stay Tuned for more on McKinley as we continue training.
