Bark N Rest Retirement Center Forever home for seniors, all age special needs, terminally ill and handicapped dogs. We are a volunteer 501c3 organization run solely on donations.

We offer senior, special needs, terminally ill and handicapped dogs a happy comfortable home to enjoy the rest of their lives. Our dogs enjoy lots and lots of rest time, medical care if needed, exercise and even playtime! We offer high quality organic foods, organic shampoo and vitamins. We offer unconditional love to our dogs! They come from pounds and shelters, most of which were on death row an

d deemed unadoptable. Follow the progress and heartfelt stories of our dogs. Last night we had to rush Miss Fancy to the ER.

Fancy is the last remaining dog from our original pack, when we started our rescue 13 years ago. She was Chance's buddy. She has cerebellar hypoplasia.

She had an abcess form and rupture. Her face was swollen. It was first thought it was a snake bite because it happened so fast.

It turned out to be a back jaw tooth.
She has not had a dental due to her age, neurological issue and advancing heart issue.

Well, we have no choice now. She has to have the surgery. More than likely the remaining teeth removed.

I know I haven't been as active on my page lately. But that doesn't mean the care needs stop.

We go to the vet Monday for a follow up and surgery consult on how to approach this.

Please help Fancy with her surgery. Her little life matters. She's over come so much the last 14 years. She needs this chance.

We've had bonded pairs before. These 2 are inseparable like I've never seen.

Last night we put their bed and another bed in our room.

At some point one of them got up and went to the other bed.

Then I started hearing these chirp barks. I looked and they were chirping at each other to move to same bed. Lol

They were going back and forth, like no you come to this bed, no you. After a few minutes, Lilybell gave in and went to the bed with Tinkerbell.

Then they slept all night without a peep. Lol

Their little lives were turned upside down last week with death of owner.

We received the email, the family did not want them at all. Didn't care if they were split up or where or who they went too. Just wanted them gone.

I was in Hot Springs at the time. Jumped in my car, drove to Oklahoma and got them! Then this morning drove back to Texas.

They are settling in and starting a new journey. Thank you for your support!

Miss Scoobie had outdoor time during her stay at House of Wag, a great doggie day care in Ft Worth.

We had to take my daughter to a crainal nerve specialist in California for more testing last week.

Was a big relief knowing she was somewhere that I didn't have to worry about.

With my daughter's issues, we have enough to worry about. Lol

Sadly, we had to let Ginger go.

Her heart rate dropped to 40 and would not come back up.

They took her back to do labs. The vet came back in, and said she did not think she would survive the stress of the labwork or futher radiology tests.

She was in and out of consciousness at the last.

The vet thinks it was cancer related to the urinary issues she's had and seeing the urine that was leaking out.

She was such a spry fiesty senior. She loved to play with her toys. She would gather all the toys and put in her bed. Even the larger ones. She wouldn't let any of the other dogs get one. Lol

She loved to play tug o war with my grandson too.

Ginger loved her car rides. If I was leaving the house, she was ready to go. She was always with me when I went to Arkansas. She loved looking out the big windows at the forest.

We love you Ginger! Thank you to all that donated to her care.

On way to vet. Please donate to help Ginger. Yesterday she didn't want to eat, but was drinking. Today she's very lethargic not mobile. She's always had issue with leaking and urgency with urine. Now it's brown tinged thick and throwing up large amounts of yellow bile for her tiny 3 pound size.

Got my little diaper dress on. Now I can free roam the house in Hot Springs.

She let's you know when she's ready to get out of her bed by doing this. Her bed is a mini crib. She sleeps in it at night.

We use mini cribs when we can. Not as confining and stressful as crates for seniors and special needs.

On way to vet with Miss Sofie. Her health deteriorated overnight. Her spinning is constant, tearing open her toe pad again. Causing it to bleed. She is not coherent to her surroundings. This is not a quality of life. It's best to let her go and not suffer.

I was trying to video Miss Ginger and brag on her. She wasn't having it. Haha. Last night she got to sleep uncrated and not one accident!! Ginger is doing great at potty manners!
