Levi & Mary's Livestock Guardian Dogs

Levi & Mary's Livestock Guardian Dogs We have been breeding and raising Livestock Guardian Dogs for several years. We enjoy watching where our dogs go and the wonderful lives they live!

While many of our pups go to working homes we also allow some of our pups to go to pet homes as well.

We had a litter of 4 kittens born a few weeks prior to the puppies. Eventually they ventured out and found the puppies and they are so funny together they cuddle and do well with each other. I was worried the puppies would beat up the kitties but they've been good to the kittens. It's been fun to watch them growing up with the pups!

We currently have 4 or 5 (I think- currently talking to various people) LGD pups. I am not sure how long these pups will last so don't wait! The dam and sire are both fulltime working LGDs on our farm where they guard sheep and chickens. They are also well adjusted to cattle. I guess you could say they guard the cattle too but I'm not so sure the feeder steers need much guarding lol πŸ˜† The pups are raised in our sheep barn. Pups will be ready to go to their new homes early November just in time for Christmas! 😜 We prioritize working homes all LGD homes and any other type of work accepted (therapy, emotional support, medical support, etc.) Pups will have all age appropriate vaccines and dewormings upon leaving our care. They will be ready for viewing soon so get with us ASAP!

I dont think this is one of our pups we sold but just in case I'll share it.

Mikey showing off his claws. Working LGDs need their claws to help defend themselves and their livestock. We trim only if needed and we trim their rear dew claws. They tend to wear them down without our help. These aren't your average whimpy couch potatoes πŸ˜‰

***Sold***
Meet "LJ"

She gets her name from her Uncle Louie- "Louie Junior or LJ" cause she acts and even sorta looks just like her dear old Uncle Louie.

LJ is a Thelma and Mikey daughter.

LJ is the last pup we have of the most recent litter of 6. We kept her longer on purpose! We often get requests for older dogs or started pups and LJ has been working with the adult dogs now for the last few months. She also was useful to be a buddy for another pup we started for a client. LJ is an old soul and acts very mature for her age. She is going to be one heck of a good LGD as she grows up. If you are in the market for an LGD and want to skip past some of the puppy phase here she is! She would be a good first LGD or she would also be an excellent addition to your pack. She's expressive, smart, and observant. She likes people but is a little more reserved around strangers. She is currently working around Sheep/ lambs, chickens, and cats/ kittens, we also run cattle but she has not been around them as much yet. She does well with all our other dogs including our herding dogs (we have 11 dogs total right now including LJ). She stays in the fence (has not tried to get out ever). She will come fully vaccinated as well (vax- roughly $400 value). As previously stated she is currently in training and doing spectacular.

Only working homes will be considered with this pup. Please message us for any additional information or questions.

Please note we ask for a deposit if you want us to hold her for any length of time. Remaining balance due on agreed upon pick up date.

All forms of payment accepted (cash, check, card, venmo, paypal)

We love this girl and think she deserves a farm (big or small all farms are welcome to inquire) to call home!

Note- You can change her name if you want. Her nickname just kinda stuck lol

This is Penelope! Penelope was born here she was from our previous litter (the litter of 12- Mikey x Thelma) and she is currently 2 yrs old. As a puppy she went to live with a family as a pet (Not an LGD). Her owners made a decision to give her back to us. Now we are slowly introducing her to being an LGD. She is making great strides daily. Today I let her out on a pasture off leash with the rest of the pack and the sheep. She has only been here for a week. It was fun to watch her run free through the pasture and explore her new home. We have not yet decided our end goal for Penelope. We may decide to rehome her depending on how she takes her LGD training either as an LGD or as a pet. Or we may decide to keep her. We are uncertain of her future at this point but she is only the second dog we have ever had to take back in. Louie was the first and he is still here with us living his best life. But please know that all our puppies always have a home here. We understand that circumstances change and life can take unexpected turns. We won't demonize our past clients for wanting a better life for their dog. We too want the best for our pups we raise. We try to make sure the homes we send them to are their forever homes. But as I mentioned things can change in an instant. I dont have a crystal ball and I can't predict the future. We hope none of our dogs ever see a rescue or a shelter. I will see to it that Penelope will always be loved as will every single one of our puppies. I care about their futures and their outcomes. Not all breeders can say that.

I forgot to post this the other day. We did confirm Thelma is for sure pregnant! She is due very soon within the next week. If you look close you can see what I believe is the spine and hip of a pup at the top of the ultrasound. We did note them moving around too!

Hi friends! Someone south of Bargersville found this boy and I thought he had a striking resemblance to our dogs. So thought maybe one of our puppy customers may have lost their dog? Or if you lost your Pyrenees I can put you in touch with last known location.

Livestock Guardian Dog drama and NEWS. πŸ˜‚ (long post) We share all the fun pictures and all the happy pics but having 10 dogs total comes with its fair share of "doggy drama". We have a few dogs that don't like each other at all that we have to keep seperate at all times and then we get some little disagreements on occasion. Sebastian here got into a disagreement recently and I am not sure who he got into it with. Likely either his papa or one of the girls lol πŸ˜† his "girlfriend" Rhea is in heat right now and he's been courting her for the past month cause he knew she was getting closer (females in heat always creates drama). So he'd growl at his papa (Mikey) anytime he got near her over the past 3 or 4 weeks. Fortunately they are both pretty calm natured so they didn't get into any major fights but Sebastian obviously crossed a line with someone recently. He had a big swollen eye the last few days. Of course when I found him with a swollen eye the other night I was a little concerned at first but after closer inspection I could tell there was little to nothing that could be done for it other than applying some topical ointments and let it heal on its own (I also seperated him from the others to curb anymore fighting). So now I just have a big goofy h***y dog with a shiner lol πŸ˜† fortunately it looks like he will make a full recovery and will be back out on the pasture with everyone else soon.
I should also note that if everything works out Rhea and Sebastian will have puppies about mid October and they will be ready for new homes mid to late December. I can not tell you how many requests for pups we get on a weekly basis. Thank you for all the interest in our dogs we appreciate it! We held off on breeding this spring because it was too soon for Thelma (she had a litter in summer of 2021) and Rhea wasn't quite old enough this last spring. I think we will hold off on breeding Thelma for now as well until next spring. We are excited for Rhea and Sebastian puppies as they combine two of our bloodlines. Rhea is a Titan granddaughter. We lost Titan in 2019 and we never got pups out of him ourselves but fortunately he had had pups with Jim and Tony Corbett's female and they kept a female out of Titan so Rhea is a Daughter from her. So we were excited to get Rhea to combine both Mack and Titan bloodlines since Sebastian is a Mack grandson. Rhea has been an outstanding guard dog and loves being with the sheep. Sebastian is a calm big boy and does excellent with the sheep also. So these pups should possess some excellent qualities from both their parents and hopefully some of the great qualities from their Grandparents. These pups will also be our first litter of "third generation" puppies born here. Thelma is the dam of Sebastian and she was born here as well. Both parents will be on site as well as one set of grandparents (Thelma and Mikey) and their Great-grandmother Louise is also still here with us! I think I'll have to try to get a 4 generation picture after the pups are born! πŸ˜† not too many LGD breeders that can show you multiple generations. Please get in contact with us if you are interested in a pup. We will try to reach out to those that we know of that were interested in pups but if you are reading this even if you already voiced interest please hit us up again we will be collecting names for now then message those on the list first when the pups are born. Priority will be given to working homes however we always try to place our pups in the best homes possible working or not. Mary and I have not discussed new prices yet so be prepared for loose estimates until we come up with reasonable prices when considering all the increases in dog food, supplies, vet costs and care we've experienced this year. We hope to hear from you!

Sometimes we get asked how our dogs do in hot weather. Here is just some of the ways our dogs like to stay cool in the hot weather! The barns are open to our dogs and they have a creek that runs the entire length of our pastures and a couple of them can be let out to go to the pond as well. They love when I fill sheep tanks with fresh cool water as well. A roll in the mud helps keep the flies away. These dogs are intelligent and resourceful and know how to deal with the elements. They were born into this lifestyle and know how to combat the heat or any other extremes. A good deep brushing helps keep their coats breathable as well. Their double coats protect them both from heat and cold. The long guard hairs protect them from the sun and they shed their undercoat in the spring to help keep them cool. Then in the fall they grow back that thick undercoat to protect them from the cold. The guard hairs also protect them from rain, snow, and ice. These dogs have been bred for thousands of years to survive much harsher conditions we pamper them with fans, shelter, grooming, and two meals a day with added nutritional supplements. They are definitely tougher than the average dog but they love being outside. Dogs are pretty amazing if you let them be amazing. Many dog breeds were born with all the tools they need to survive harsh conditions with very little human intervention. In today's world alot of pet dogs are "killed with kindness". Many dogs are obese and fed treats with all kinds of disgusting crap in them, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, dogs that can't cope with stress. But if you have a dog that lives outside people lose their mind they can't imagine how we could allow them to live a full healthy life working everyday. It boggles their minds. We love our dogs! They protect our sheep flock daily and they are so much fun!
