Back in January my rescue got a request to take in an aggressive Jack Russell Terrier that was set to be euthanized at animal control. He had been purchased at a local pet store as a puppy. Returned to them at 2 because the owners were “tired of him”. He was resold to another family where he bit a child and broke the skin. After a 10 day bite quarantine he was set to be euthanized, but in desperation a friend of the pet store owner contacted us.
Jack Russells are my breed and I couldn’t say no to giving this one a chance. At first he seemed like he was just your average willful Jack Russell with some boundary issues, but about a month in I realized it was more than that. You see Bucket suffers from poor genetics and a bad start in life. When he gets overly stressed or over stimulated he will literally check out and just start attacking. In the 20+ years I’ve been working with dogs he’s only the second to bite me and break the skin. Due to his unpredictability with humans we decided that Bucket wasn’t adoptable to the public, but I wasn’t ready to give up on him.
We got him neutered, and fully vetted and I started training him. Now, 4 months later Bucket is doing amazing and a permanent resident and official member of the family. He isn’t fully integrated to my pack, and I’m not sure he can handle the freedom of doing things like sleeping in the bed, but he gets lots of playgroup time and he has become invaluable with teaching my board and train dogs how to properly play!
If your dog is here for more than a few days they will likely end up meeting and playing with my sweet boy Bucket! He’s a total playgroup champion and I absolutely love him!!
Welcome to the family Bucket!! It’s official!!!
