Welcome back to PLEASE HELP US FIND FOSTERS FRIDAY. As our loyal followers know, we were not able to bring in dogs during July, and our August rescues are stalled, because we do not have enough fosters. For those just getting to know us--PPR does not have a shelter or central location; instead, we rely on foster homes, so that our dogs can experience family life right upon rescue. We are not being dramatic when we say that we have had to turn away DOZENS and DOZENS of dogs--from the south, from the Amish mills, and from across Maine, due to not having fosters. We are also not being dramatic when we say, when we turn these dogs away, sometimes, they don’t make it. If you have ever considered fostering, now is the time. We need you. These dogs need you. Meet Buffy! Buffy is a Canaan Dog, who wants nothing more than to please her newly found owners and settle in at the forever home she so greatly deserves. Sadly, Buffy was born in a shelter in Afghanistan, and has lived nearly her entire 2 years of life at that shelter. Until a couple months ago, when she and some others came to the USA destined to be placed in a loving home. One can only imagine what these animals have been through. After going through the mandatory quarantine, Buffy went to her foster home and had been there for about a month. While they would like to keep her, their other animals, three kids, and careers simply cannot afford Buffy the time she so desperate needs and deserves. She’s proven to be good with other dogs, and has tolerated an aggressive cat, as well as a kitten, both seemingly well. She’s actually taken to be protective of the kitten, making sure she doesn’t get pushed around too much by her older brother. Buffy is a sweet dog, and wants nothing other than to get attention, and please. Being a shelter dog for her entire life, one can appreciate the fact that she’s had little to no basic obedience training. In many ways, she’s living as a puppy in an adult dog’s body. She’s proven to be extremely intelligent, though, and there is no question she will be extremely well behaved; time and effort are really what she needs. She walks great on a leash, is potty trained to the majority (still has the occasional accident inside at night, but constantly shows signs of improvement with this), and is crated when her foster parents aren’t home. She likes to get into things if left out and unattended, but we also believe that will improve over time.

Normally, this is our Found a Home Friday post, but we are in desperate need of fosters, to help us continue to place our pups in their furever homes, so we are making this our: Finding Fosters post.

If you have ever wanted to help, now is the time! Remember: PPR is a foster-based rescue. We DO NOT have a shelter. All dogs that come in go to loving, temporary homes, before they move on to their furever homes. We need fosters so badly, and don't have enough help, that we have decided to not do ANY intakes for the month of July. We may also need to slow, or stop, for August. That's a lot of lives that we can't save, even though we want to do so.

We pay for everything and supply everything; you give the love. It's only for a short time, but your help saving a dog's life will last FUREVER. 🦮🫶🐩
