🪷🐾Balanced Canine🐾🪷 took a weekend trip to covington for an amazing Canine Conditioning weekend class hosted by NOLA Dog Sports Club and taught by Robby Porter!

Conditioning your dog is so important and not talked about enough!

Any and all dogs can greatly benefit from it. From puppies to seniors or for sports dogs or your everyday couch potato.

🤔 So what's the point in conditioning your dog?

Here are just SOME of the MANY benefits to it:

💟 Meet Pinky! 💟

Pinky, the greatest decision of my life, co-owner of Balanced Canine, and The Judgmental American Staffordshire Terrier.

In 2018, I took Pinky in from a friend who had found her abandoned in a park. Originally a foster, now a foster fail. This ended up being one of the best things I've ever done. She is now about 6 years old.

Pinky has helped to shape the confidence, patience, and passion for dog training and the "bully breed" umbrella.

As well as working as my demo dog for training, she also participates in dog sports, therapy work, is CGC certified. She is always eager to learn something new!

We hope you and your pup will have the opportunity to meet us in person so you can see her charm!

🦃 Turkey Season is Upon Us 🦃

Let's prepare those pups for Thanksgiving Day

With new family, friends, and food entering the home, we sometimes see our dogs struggle with new or worsening behavioral issues.
While working with a trainer on any major behavioral problem is always best, here's some tips to prepare you both.

🥧 Barking at the door and people -- Preparing your dog to meet and approach people they aren't familiar with before can make large gatherings like Thanksgiving day easier to manage.

🥧 Jumping as guests come in -- Attach that leash! Interrupting jumping behaviors and rewarding four paws on the floor helps to teach appropriate ways to look for attention.

🥧 Counter surfing & trash raiding -- Practice food left on the counter with an automatic "leave it" before Thanksgiving dinner is at stake.

🥧 Dashing out the door -- Practice waiting at the door before they're allowed to go out, and practice the door opening without them going out to prepare for guests coming in and out.

‼️ When in doubt, crates and leashes are your best friend! Most accidents and escapes happen during the holiday season ‼️

🐾 Who is the trainer behind Balanced Canine Dog Training? 🐾

Taylor Paternostro, owner and trainer

My passion for working with dogs started at 10 years old, working with my father to train his duck hunting dogs.

With my interest piqued, I went on to do independent work and research on dog rescue, training, and sports.
I started my journey working at Companion Animal Alliance, where I saw the realities of the dogs in our local shelters and rescues. I learned a lot about common behavioral problems and built a passion for rescue dogs, especially bully breeds.

PetSmart provided me with a 4 year journey into the people side of the dog community. I built a lot of wonderful relationships, and furthered my passion in dog nutrition, mental enrichment, sports, and in outreaching with other local dog professionals, clubs, and businesses. This is where I found that dog training and the dog community is what I wanted to commit my life to.

6 months ago, I made the leap from PetSmart to start my own business, Balanced Canine LLC. I've been overjoyed to work with all the dogs that I've worked with so far through our private and board and train programs, and I'm so excited for the future.
