Sherman came to me through Best Bullies and the Yonkers Animal Shelter. He had a rough life with his brother and kept running away from it! Finally, they got picked up for the last time and placed in the shelter, where some of my dear friends at Best Bullies were so taken back by his good looks and charm that they had to get him into foster care! I co-fostered him with some other advocates of the
organization. Somewhere down the line, I expressed that I wanted to adopt him but didn't think I could give him the best home possible, so we tried him with some families. That didn't work. He ran away. Oddly enough, he ran north towards me! We searched for just about 40 hours through the rain and went 18 hours without a Sherman sighting. When I got out of work the next day to continue looking, I pretty much got ready to be disappointed. But I got myself over to where he was last seen, tried to "predict" where he might go next, and went there. I pulled off to the side of the road next to this reservoir and heard people in the area shouting his name, so I knew I was in good company. I turned my car off, got out, adjusted my jacket, scarf, hat, sunglasses, and shoved everything I could in my pockets except a few treats and his favorite toy from my apartment. I looked to the right, then to the left, with the intent of going into the woods, and RIGHT THERE, nearly 100 feet away, was Sherman! He was visibly cold and wet, and he didn't seem to recognize me at first, so I quickly took off my outerwear and started crying his name. He started to move slowly towards me, and then into a full-on sprint and jumped into my arms. We haven't been separated since :)
