Another go at a Racc**n, a rather unique one at that. He's huge n beautifully colored but has no tail at all. Just a nub. When I skinned him forgot to take a picture. All that was there was a half inch bone bump no sign of scaring or trauma so it's been that way since very very young. He is sure a fat headed fellow besides. Skin is salted in the freezer till I can catch up my to do list some. Skull is cleaned n drying so it can be whitened. And mounted with the hide. I been looking to trap another huge good looking one for a c**n skin cap. Thought I was there till I seen no tail. AND WHAT WOULD DANIEL BOON SAY IF I GOT A COONSKIN HAT WITHOUT A TAIL... Buahahahaha

My Rabbit project, trying to clear my work orders up before the deer start coming in. But I keep adding more critters lol. First attempt at rabbit tanning I can't believe how frail n thin the skin is. Got the skull all cleaned n degreased. It has to dry n be whitened while the hide is in its salting stage ;) I'll figure out this hide tanning stuff one Day Lol. That's why I'm practicing on my and my son in laws critters ;). Lots of trial n error to go before I do any like that for customers.

Turtle is on the wall. Plaque is reclaimed tongue n groove California redwood with a riser and mount slat also the same wood. Turtle skull mounted on dowel and placed in normal head position. The whole turtle is removable from the slat for closer interest viewing.

I'm finally caught up on all the critter work and personal projects.

Can't wait for the seasons coming soon to see you again or for the first time.

Well Elmer Fudd must have finally caught the waskally wabbit.. He's on the Mancave critter wall. Or Its Lil bunny Foo Foo.. who's no longer hopping through the Forest. That will make the field mice And good Fairy very happy ;)

My huge racc**n turned out awesome. Was way more work than I imagined. He was 33 inches nose to tail base at hind end n he was heavy n very good looking. He's hung by pegs on a knotty pine board. Fire braised and poly coated with skull mounted above. Hide Tanning is not something I will be offering customers as I'm just teaching myself. Thanks for understanding. Oh note :: Mrs Mancave insisted I leave the hide as it was skinned. She said no trimming or cutting. No Choppa Da Ricky Skin. !!!

Woodchuck hide is done. Skull and hide displayed on a knotty pine board that's been fire braised and poly coated. Pegs for hide to hang. As new learning goes apparently woodchucks fall in the fox category for salt bath intolerance. The racc**n faired well. But was a lot of slippage on face ears belly n sides. I was able to salvage my project. With some excessive trimming skin regluing and it turned out good. The orange bottle tanning solution warned about fox but not groundhogs looking into the problem I find it's a regular problem w fur slipping on them. All part of leaning I guess. Remember I am not offering hide tanning to customers because I am unfamiliar with the processes.

Skinned out a woodchuck and huge racc**n this morning. Got initial scraping done on C**n, didn't get to scraping the chuck today was killer hot in the garage n I spent most the day on them as it was. This big racc**n hide is awesome very thick soft n good looking.

These are personal projects and regretfully I won't be offering hide cleaning or tanning to customers. I'm unfamiliar with these processes and teaching myself. I can't chance making mistakes or chancing ruined trophy's that you've worked so hard for. Thanks for understanding. I'm just sharing my endeavors in this realm ;)

Finally reunited the head n tail with the snapping turtle shell. Head n tail Been in the bottom of the freezer most a year lol. Wasn't sure if I wanted to add it to the plaque. So it got forgotten.

Turned out awesome on the same plaque. This mount the shell can be removed for viewing inside back of shell. It's poly coated n polished.

Finished a double possum skull mount today. Added to the critter wall ;). Sitting on a pine stump slab with a reclaimed California redwood plank plaque, is a very old possum on the left n a younger mid age possum on the right.

Now it's complete n I'm feeling better with the changes. First pic is Before..Rest are after I switched the spur lanyard. Fixed, replaced, moved n adjusted feathers. Much better appearance and visual ;)
Being fussy is a benefit all my customers enjoy as much as I do with my personal projects. I treat your project just as if I was doing my own.

Got another turkey on the wall nearly complete, have to adjust n spruce up some feathers and shorten the spurr lanyard. This one had a lot of broken wing feathers n some shot damage at wing joint. It turned out much better than I expected.

Keep me in mind for your turkeys next season and remember game skulls as well as those White tail Euro's Bucks and Does. Or just antler mounts. All custom rustic.

Racc**n is done. He was pretty scraggly. Had a lot of long grey body hair. Almost all his teeth are worn right down. He was covered in tics. And had a face full of porcupine quills. I found a bunch deep in his flesh against his jaw n skull. Must have been a tough ole fart ;)

Weasel is on the wall. All complete. The kids found this one dead caught in the fence wire with 7 of their slaughtered ducklings. It was chewed up and had teeth holes in his skull, by the other weasels that were killing the ducks or a mink. Can't believe how small they are. Like a hot dog w feet. His skull is long w a huge brain cavity. Nasty sharp teeth, carnivores and they will kill anything that looks like food many times their own size. Found this neet wood knot for a mount it even had a lil hole in it so I ran his tail through it as though he went in ;).

It was a weird weather season for sure. Most areas had very early preseason activity. Hopefully you had a chance to get out and enjoy some spring outdoors and turkey talk. Just a little something fun I did with the back skin n feathers from my turkey, wasn't sure the direction I wanted to go with the plaque when I parted out the turkey. It was a leftover I made good use of. The wood slice is a natural coloration in the base base of a small box elder I cut down years ago. Saved some slices for whatever. This one looked a bit like a Turkey. ;)

Making progress on my turkey.
Glued the snood I saved to the skull. It dried flat n black but it's still pretty cool looking ;). Hope to add wings and front plaque items tomorrow.

Porcupine skull in the works. Amazing other than the very flat grinding teeth it's nearly the same as the woodchuck skull.
This one he shot running up a tree. Unfortunately the bullet exited through the back of bottom jaw and eye socket.
I had a screen full of small bone pieces I picked from the meat from the fleshing boil.
13 little bone chunks to puzzle out. Was difficult gluing the eye bone ring . But turned out ok. Only missing one tiny chunk from back of lower jaw. So was able to have put together a decent skull.
Noticed the back of the skull was naturally deformed. Right rear of skull back is smaller than left n not cemitric.
Ready for whitening.

Woodchuck is done n on the wall. This skull and tail were from a freshly dead woodchuck. I had the notion to skin it entirely and try to tan my first hide but the amount of ticks he was infested with I chose to just take the head And tail. He turned out Fantastic. I didn't know his teeth were just like a beaver and squirrels ;). I'm pretty sure Woodchucks don't chuck wood !! Giggles.
Skull whitened up really well.
Mounted skull and tail on a very hard hardwood stump chunk.
Added the 17 cartridge from the shot. Chucky is on the wall. Be sure and ask about your small game you'd like preserved and mounted.
