A few weeks ago, I got a call from one of my puppy families. She said she was having a little bit of trouble with her dog, and she needed help. Nothing major. He was just getting a little unruly and was pretty much running all over her. So, I offered to come help her. I hopped on a plane and headed to Arizona. He spent the whole weekend in Bull Terrier boot camp. We worked a few kinks out, and I think she now has the tools to keep him a well-mannered boy.

If you are looking to buy a Bull Terrier, make sure you find a breeder that is willing to help you in any way they can. I offer lifetime breeder support for my puppies because I know that owning a BT isn't always easy, and they can be a bit much at times.

Mack got some early morning play time in before surgery today. If you don't mind, send good vibes and thought his way.

Dogs are dogs. They're not fur babies. They're not children. They're dogs.

That doesn't mean I don't love my dogs. It doesn't mean you can't call them your "kids" or "fur children." But for their sake, respect that they are dogs. Treat them well, but treat them as they should be.

People humanizing dogs is actually what's getting a lot of them put down, rehomed, dumped, and loaded with behavioral issues.

The best way to honor and love your dog is to respect the fact that they are different from us. That's part of what makes them so amazing!!

Bringing home a new dog and giving it whatever it wants, whenever it wants, is not setting them up for success. It may feel good to "spoil" them. I get it, but what you're actually doing is creating a brat.

I hear this often: "My dog bit our friend on the couch because he thinks the couch is his." OK, who let them think that? The dog didn't just waltz in and claim your couch. The dog wasn't given boundaries to begin with. I let my dogs on the couch, but if I tell them to get off and go to their bed, they will without hesitation. They've earned that privilege based on respect, trust, and understanding.

If you want to "spoil" your dog, do it by setting them up for success. Exercise them, give them boundaries, give them a job, and give them what they actually need instead of the latest squeaky toy. The time you spend playing with your dog means more than the toy itself.

Love your dog. Cherish your dog. Respect your dog, but for the love of the dog, TREAT THEM LIKE A DOG.

(And before anyone wants to say something silly...My dogs are my family. They literally signed my marriage certificate, but they also have boundaries. Just like any healthy family should!)

Mack was the best patient yesterday while visiting the vet. He got lots of love and treats. He was estimated to be between 3-5 years of age. Vet recommended seeing a specialist for Mack's broken leg.

Update: Mack, or as I like to call him "Mackaroni" is headed to the vet tomorrow to see what we can do to mend the broken leg. If you will, send good vibes his way. I will update again tomorrow for those of you that are following along with his journey to recovery.

We were notified last week of a Bull Terrier that was found about 45 minutes from our house that was injured and had been turned in to the shelter. We went today and picked him up. He has a broken back leg and has been that way for a little while. He will be ready for adoption once the leg has been mended and he is neutered. If you are interested in adoption, please let me know, and I'll get you the application.

Not for this one, though. It's play time.

Astrid and Phoenix had a great weekend at the Jackson, MS show. Astrid went BOB Friday under Judge John Cole and placed 3rd in OH under Judge Linda Hurlebaus. BOB on Saturday and Best of Opposite on Sunday. Phoenix was BOB on Friday under John Cole as well and Best of opposite on Sunday.

Edit ***We ended up having to drive home in a winter storm as well. 50 degrees when we left MS and 10 degrees when we got home.
