Happy 2nd birthday Kodi!!!! This boy is so much fun, extremely smart, and always looking to have a good time 🤣🙃 he keeps everyone on their toes at all times! He has come such a long way, I forget he's still so young! Kodi loves as hard as he plays! 🥰
Hold your dogs to the same standards you hold you kids ❤️
Behavior is communication.
Education 👍
The prong gets a lot of controversy. This video describes how to use it great! It's safer then using a slip lead, flat collar, martingale because of the distribution of pressure when correcting unwanted behavior. There is never supposed to be constant pressure. All dogs are different, all tools are different. It is never 1 size fits all. PRECISION OVER POWER.
Expecting your dog to be calm, well mannered, and non reactive is great, but it's important to find good outlets for your dogs to achieve these desired behaviors. This allows them to really be able to get that pent up energy or possible frustration out of their system. Many times in training, undesirable behaviors stem from lack of physical and/or mental stimulation. Every dog is different, and requires a different level of commitment. Practice being calm, but also remember to practice being wild (safely) too!!!
Do you have an over excited dog? Maybe they just need more practice building confidence! Patience!!! I cannot stress it enough! Dixie girl gets so excited to train she sometimes has a hard time settling, so she throws everything she knows at me. Instead of adding to the excitement with motion, food, or noise, I calmly wait her out. She has done this exercise before, but as you can see, is still a bit reluctant to perform on an object that can move under her feet. By being calm and confident, I'm guiding her to perform the harder task. If you turn the volume up, you'll realize our communication is timing rewards, body language and eye contact. Let their brains problem solve, and they will gain the confidence to do things they may feel are more difficult. This can help them overcome their fears in other situations!
Front feet targeting + back end awareness + back feet targeting = building engagement, confidence and familiarity EVERYWHERE you go! Great for fearful or shy dogs!
Fading out treats: lots of people think that when you train with food, the dog only works for the food. Although this is half true, because no one likes to work for free 🤷♀️ you can start slowly asking for more behaviors and longer durations before you treat, and randomize when you give them. I use the marker word "YES" to make sure they know they are doing what I'm asking, but treat randomly. The tricks that there is still hesitancy on get treated more then others.
If you don't have time to work/train, that doesn't mean THEY can't work! Enrichment and training in every meal. These types of activities help to mentally stimulate the brain because they have to work to get their food, practice patience and self control, lowers their heart rate ❤️, and releases endorphins. Win win 😀
We just started working on back end targeting. This is our 3rd session and they a picking it up great! You can see Hannah working very hard to figure things out and control where he back feet end up. We are using a klimb platform and exercise step. I'm looking for weight changes, forward and backwards motion, and problem solving during this session. Once your dog knows the behavior, be sure to practice in different locations, and with different objects. This makes it clear to the dog that it doesn't matter the environment, the behavior expectations are still the same.
Channeling drive through play is a great way to create a connection and get some of the crazy out. Tug can satisfy a dog's physical needs, but what about mental? Throwing in "drop it" unexpectedly can keep them on their toes, challenging their obedience and impulse control. This can tire them out quicker then just continuously tugging, especially in a high stimulation area. Kodi will be turning 2years old in a month, and has come such a long way! ❤️ he definitely has put in the work 💪
Being off leash is a privilege. Hours of practicing reliable recalls, high pack mentality, patience, and guidance. It's never too early, or late, to start building that connection. The work you put in shows, and everyone gets to enjoy the rewards. 😎
When Sam's feeling himself, we work! Lol he loves to rotate in during training sessions and show the dogs what he's got 🤣
Sometimes training isn't always sexy and flashy. A lot of hours are put in before getting to the glamorous stages 🙃 watch me fumble around with Sam as we train a bit with his goggles. Sam LOVES the Churu. It's his highest reward treat. So sometimes it's a little hard to keep him thinking clearly when I bring out the Churu. But, since the goggles are a more challenging experience, I want to bring out the best reward for him. When you train, as your criteria gets harder, make sure the reward gets better and more frequent, to keep the animals engaged and wanting to work through the hard stuff. 😀
Frogtown Fosters
Lily is working on backend awareness. The goal of this exercise if for her to rotate and navigate her backend around the stool, while keeping her front feet on top. Physically this works her back, hip, shoulder, and leg muscles, but working that brain for coordination and impulse control as well. 13 years young!!! 🥰
Although her enthusiastic high drive/energy makes me want to laugh the whole time, I meet her with fun, but controlled guidance. This allows us to enjoy one on one training, but allows for her brain to stay focused 👌
Still working on conditioning wearing goggles! Spreading treats and/or kibble in the grass is a great, cost effective snuffle mat for mental stimulation and fun! 👍
Happy !!!!! Hannah, Kodi, and Dixie baby pics 💕
SAFETY FIRST!
When the trunk opens, that does not mean you can get out! Another threshold we work on. Dixie working on her impulse control at taekwando. She LOVES people, so this can be hard for her. But she is doing great!
Sniff walk for Dixie, and an outdoor enrichment stroll for Sam 🥰

Kodi LOVES to bark. He is the most vocal in my pack. Teaching him to turn on and off his bark has created a neutral territory for us. There are times to bark, and there are times to leave it. I am asking him to bark in the clip and when rewarding with a tug. ................................. #refined_canine_ #positivetraining #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #positivereinforcement #dogtrainer #puppytraining #positivedogtraining #dogs #mindsetchange #clickertraining #puppy #entreprenuerslife #makingmoneyeveryday #motivatedanddriven #lifehacksclub #entreprenuermotivation #successmind #ambitionovereverything #ambitioncantwait #productivityatitsfinest #motivated #valuelife #valueyourlife #productivityinbusiness #businessmanagement #entreprenuersofinstagram #selfgrowthanddevelopment #schoolofgreatness #forcefreetraining

Things don't always go as planned. Kodi's energy is so high during this 3rd training session with leg weaves that is causes Lily to be over stimulated, which causes her to continuously try to get up and leave the situation. Things like this happen, and all we can do is continue to teach impulse control. She is 13years old, and has a hard time these days due to some hearing loss (or selective hearing 🙃), but being as persistent as she is, I will continue to help her stay calm in chaotic situations.
Have a dog that likes to dig? Let them dig!!! In appropriate places of course! An easy enrichment/training idea is to use a Sandbox, and hide toys in it. Encourage your dog to dig there instead of in your yard 🙃 have fun! *disclaimer* be sure to fill in the holes when they are done!*
Picking it up a notch. 💪 the treadmill is one of Hannah's favorites!!! She hops on an waits anytime I go downstairs. It definitely comes in handy anytime you can't make it outside for a training session, or just want to have one inside! #mentalstimulationfordogs #workingdog #treadmill
Practicing back end targeting, and place on a foreign platform, outside with distractions 👍 diversity can help less confident dogs become more confident with their surroundings when they have something familiar do. 🐾 #aussie #mentalstimulationfordogs #buildingconfidence #engagement

The treadmill is an extremely over looked piece of equipment for draining energy mentally, and physically. Learning to keep the pace, ignore the distractions, and have the courage to stay in motion when not actually going anywhere! Kodi is now gaining more confidence, but still a little hesitant. This pace is hard for him to keep because it is faster then his walk, but slower then his trot. But he is not ready to go any faster just yet. #treadmillworkout #mentalstrengthtraining #mentalstimulationfordogs
Practicing place and break ("ok") while waiting for an oil change. A controversial topic are ecollars. Kodi is wearing his ecollar during this exercise for safety, and I use the beep to mark the behavior and then treat (identical to clicker training, but with an ecollar). It's a positive reinforcement for "yes" when there are high distractions and noise. I DO NOT use the ecollar for commands. Commands are voice and physical cues if needed to help only.

Can you let your dog walk ahead of you? Of course you can! Each relationship is different, each dog is different, each situation is different. Dixie is non reactive, people and dog friendly, respectful of the length of the leash, respectful to leash pressure, and checks in constantly. I would not allow her to make contact with anyone in this state, but she is free to roam on her break 🤗
Rear-end awareness and front foot targeting practice! This is the first time they are seeing the blue inflatable "ball" object. Just getting used to the movement under their feet and using their muscles to stay balanced!
