There’s nothing quite like watching a horse I trained be successful for his new family. We got shorty when he was 4 and he was nothing short (no pun intended) of amazing! Congrats to the Gobbs family on their successful HS rodeo season on short stack aka Shorty!

Strengths and weaknesses

I’ve been asked recently why I pattern some of my horses but send some of them off to be trained by others. Why? Because I am not too proud.

There are areas each and every one of us excel in and areas where we struggle. I personally feel confident patterning a very very broke horse. I don’t feel comfortable patterning a green horse. So, when I know I can do it, I do. When I have doubts, I send them to the right hands. That doesn’t mean I’m not good enough, that means I’m smart enough to do best by that horse.

Too often, we try to force things on horses. There are times to pass the torch and then take it back. I find the most success in both. People pass the torch to me, I pass it to others, and in the end it always circles back to a successful outcome.

Don’t be too proud to ask for help, don’t be too proud to give help either. Do it for you but most of all, do it for your horse.

There are few moments in training that give me the utter chills. 8 year old Dunn Fired Up aka Buffalo… wow just wow…This horse has been here 2 weeks and he’s never done poles before, this was our 4th time…no joke…. He’s just pure talent! Thank you Connie for trusting me with this horse.
