“It’s the little things that count”
I’m sure you’ve all heard that saying, but do you really appreciate the meaning? Us horsemen really never stop hearing this phrase and I hope I never loose sight of it’s meaning!
It has truly made a huge impact in my relationship with Raja……if you know my struggles with this mare from day one, then this post will mean as much to you as it did to me!
Raja has proven to me time over time she trusts me, she has learned to lay down when I ask, if she’s napping and I come in to her paddock she doesn’t get up, she even lets me come lay all over her! Raja does whatever I ask of her even when she’s unsure!
Raja has NEVER chosen to lay and roll with me this close to her! If she rolls during turn out and I’m present, she’s normally on one side of the arena and I’m on the other! No big deal, I’ve never expected much more than what she’s given me!
Until today, we are flooded out and I could see she wanted out so I brought her into the round pen for her to play her sassy games…….as I’m sitting here waiting for her explosion of energy, here she comes, taps me with her face, turns and starts to roll! I just sat here trying not to move a muscle 😂
Then she gets up, comes over to me and takes a nap! That’s it, no frills, no nothing! Just us!

Introducing DMH Denim Fit, known as Levi…..this sexy boy is from Red Rock HMA in Nevada, he’s 9yrs old and easily stands at 15h built like I like them and moves as swift as a cloud! Just over here drooling, excuse me! 😍
Levi was started under saddle through the Florence program but unfortunately has been off since then! Now he is here for a restart and preparation to find him a new home!

Not every horse is made the same, we all know that, most of us believe that……then why do we try so hard for them all in the same training hole??
Regina George is on her own level, she actually reminds me a lot of Raja, the things you would totally expect to scare her have zero effect on her! Bolting is this girls MO, blink too hard and she is gone 🤣 she has been making amazing strides and is enjoying the new things I’m throwing at her! Her trust in me is getting stronger and she’s turning it into more willingness!
I thought for sure the saddle was going to be a set back not to mention the cinches! As you can see she took it in stride, she thought every step she took! I am so very proud of her! Her and I will be climbing mountains in no time! 😍
If you’ve never seen a horse have a temper tantrum……here you! She’s big mad stomping!
They all get donkey broke around these parts!!
Posey, now named “Regina George” 🤣🤣 has been making leaps and strides! This explosive, nervous, fearful bundle of sass is a whole lotta horse in a small package!!
She has lived up to her new name, as a hard core bolter she bolted away, by, and even through you,! I know she is going to completely be a bad ass little partner, she has shown her willingness, her curiosity drives her and she loves knowing she did right by me!
Curiosity in a horse equals bravery! If you know how to nurture it, your horse will flourish! It’s one of my favorite traits in the horses that have it! A curious horse is one that thinks, problem solves, and gains confidence easily!
Eleanor drowns in curiosity, the draw this chic has is impeccable! She showed me this draw from the first day I worked with her, it really has made her trust in me different! Ive worked at really flourishing that curiosity with her so she feels more a “part” of her training instead of “being trained” she stands and watches me as I work other horses as well!
In the video I posted in the comments, I show an exercise I love doing, this is how I work with horses to help them gain confidence at going into pressure! This isn’t something lots of horses deal well with, but just look at the confidence she exudes once she realizes! I love watching her break it down!
Due to a scary medical emergency I experienced, I was strictly grounded from riding for the last two weeks!
I am so grateful to all my wonderful clients who took the news with ease and understood my inability to work their horses!
As of today, I am back to working the horses and getting caught up! I am so sorry this happened but I will for sure work my butt off to continue bringing these guys along!
Each horse was happy to be back to work, and none of them seemed to have skipped a beat! It feels so very good to be back!
I have lacked big time on working with Eleanor, but I’m changing that quick cause this chic has one solid brain!
Not to mention that movement! Look at that carriage, the hoof falls, her head set! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 She’s an impressive one!
A fellow trainer posted something really interesting the other day about practicing transitions out on the trail…..they asked, how many of you practice them? Upward transitions and downward transitions! Do you guys understand the benefits of practicing them? Especially out on the trail!
First and most importantly, it builds confidence in both you and your horse! Your horse needs to feel capable of moving up and down in their gaits without worry, this can seem pointless but did you know your horse can grow used to not having to change gaits and then when asked they will panic!
Panic can happen for many reasons, they may not know how to carry themselves with you, they can feel flighty, or they just don’t want to!
Second, it strengthens your bond and communication! Your horse will learn to read your body language and not zone out! They will always be ready for their next “request” they will trust you and your leadership, knowing they are speeding up for no reason other than just cause!
Thirdly, it’s just plain fun!! Your horse will enjoy a good trot or lope down the wash just as much as you would!! It’s fun and freeing!
Go out there and practice!! 😂😂 Raja and I are practicing transitioning down to a walk from a long trot without stopping, so that’s what you see here!
