This was the challenge for my student today. Not only did it put her hands in the right place, and organized her arms in a way that I could have never explained it better, it gave her a real feeling of feeling the bit connected to her ring fingers.

Ramona (a Christmas story)
It was almost Christmas and I was 5 years old.
My parents had divorced and we were living in an old house off a side street close to downtown Cottonwood.
In all the turmoil I became very withdrawn and recall missing the ranch and having horses around.
For some reason I asked God to give me a donkey for Christmas… I even knew where I would keep him…the old wooden lean-to carport behind the house was empty and I decided it would be the perfect place for my gift. I didn’t tell anyone except God what I wanted and with childlike faith I knew He would answer my prayer.
Early Christmas morning I got up and quietly snuck outside into the cool morning air, certain that a donkey would be waiting to greet me….the carport was empty. I searched for a few minutes and then slowly walked back inside the house a little sad and a lot confused.
It wasn’t long before the old house caught fire in the middle of the night. We made it out through a window and it wasn’t long before the authorities got involved and we were all taken from the home.
The next Christmas there were only 2 of us (out of 6) still together and we were living with my dad off a dirt road away from the busyness of town.
Christmas morning arrived and my dad had arranged a scavenger type hunt with each note leading you to the next one.
The last note said “go into the back corral and your gift will have a red ribbon on it”.
Running to the corral I saw a beautiful donkey eating the last few inches of what had been a red ribbon. Her name was Ramona and for the next year she carried me everywhere I asked her to.
About a year later I was sent to the ranch and farm with my grandparents where we had a dozen horses, cattle and miles of countryside, but Ramona will always have a special place in my heart. She was my first answer to prayer and the beginning of a journey loving and training animals and knowing that God hears our prayers even when we think He has forgotten us.

Photo and Story is By Randy Helm . If you don't know who Randy is check him out he runs the Mustang program with Inmates at the Florence Prison In Az. Quite and Incredible Person

Recent studies conducted by the Institute of Heart-Math provide a clue to explain the two-way ′′ healing ′′ that occurs when we're close to horses. According to researchers, the heart has an electromagnetic field larger than the brain: a magnetometer can measure the energy field of the heart that radiates from 2.4 meters to 3 meters around the human body. While this is certainly significant, perhaps more impressive than the electromagnetic field projected by the heart of a horse is five times larger than that of a human being (imagine an electromagnetic sphere around the horse) and it can influence straight into our own heart rate.

Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a ′′ coherent ′′ heart rate (heart rate pattern) that explains why we can ′′ feel better ′′ when we're close to them. Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.

A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. Many times, we just need to be in the presence of horses to feel a sense of well-being and peace. In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and self-efficacy ".
