It’s been a while since I’ve updated the page, life has been pretty hectic for us here lately! Here is sweet Phoenix that we posted about in April, she’s now almost 3 months old and is just as beautiful as can be!

We’ve got a new little project going on here at Branded Cactus Equine…… meet Clara, she’s currently a Lineback dun, but you never know what color they will end up being at this age, and will be a year old in August. As you can tell, she hasn’t had much training to date but we managed to get her caught and a halter on in just an hour. She was weaned from
Her mom on Thursday of this past week.

We are officially on baby watch with miss Cherokee! She’s bagged up and looking super uncomfortable these last couple of days, I’m sure we’ll have a foal on the ground in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned🤍

So by this point it’s no secret that Texas had a pretty big winter storm this last week... that storm was rough.....On everyone.... livestock included. We were lucky to be able to throw a shed together super last minute for our horses, but Jason and I got to discussing it and once our two rescue mares start to foal, they’re going to need something more comfortable and reliable to keep them safe from the crazy unpredictable Texas weather. With that being said, we slowly started to build a makeshift shed over the weekend.... yesterday we got a call from a VERY good friend of ours who donated all of this building equipment to not only finish our shed but to be able to build a full on barn with stalls in it later on.... I’m overwhelmed with emotions as this was super unexpected and everything we needed. The Lord works in such mysterious ways and we are so unbelievably blessed to have such wonderful friends. From the close friends we had come and donate time and man power... to the materials we now have to finish the job. Our babies are well off now and my heart is so full♥️😭

Cherokee is coming along very nice! She trusts me more and more every day, and we have separated her and Clovis (the 5 year old who she came to us with) because they’re super attached to each other and buddy soured... Cherokee let me stall her tonight which took a lot of trust for her to walk past me and into a box... she really needs to get her feet done before we do too much groundwork in the round pen but I’m not wanting to get that done until I know for sure if she is bred or not in case we need to drug her to get it done! I’ll continue to post updates on their progress!

Drove 3.5 hours across Texas today to bring these 2 full blooded sisters who are bred to the same stallion home. They were in poor living conditions but are relatively healthy otherwise, after some good feet trimming and vet checks to check on the babies we will know for sure exactly what shape they’re in! We are already in love. The smaller of the two (with the white spot on her side) is a 3 year old mare we have named Cherokee, the larger one is a 5 year old we have named Clovis!
