The Danbury Animal Welfare Society, Inc a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in our community and beyond. We promote responsible pet guardianship and the humane treatment of animals, and work toward ending animal overpopulation through education and a variety of programs.

A huge shoutout and heartfelt thanks to Brian, our Shelter Manager and his amazing wife Nadya for hosting an incredible holiday party for our incredible staff! From pizza and drinks to thoughtful gifts and a fun White Elephant exchange, they went above and beyond to make everyone feel celebrated and appreciated.

This gathering was filled with laughter, joy, and camaraderie—everything that makes our DAWS team so special. 💖 Thank you, Brian and Nadya and MJ, for your generosity and for helping us close out the year on such a positive note!

🐕 This beyond adorable pup is Clementine 🐕 She is a 10-month-old terrier mix and weighs 25 lb. She is about done growing. Clementine is a very affectionate and active dog who has been described by staff members as an active lapdog. She is playful and energetic, but has a very good off switch. She will make an amazing companion as a dog that will be happy to join in on hikes and other activities, but also will love to snuggle up at night. We recommend a home with teens and up and she would love to have a dog friend to play with. We don't know what Clementine thinks of cats, but can cat-test her if needed. ❤

🐕Here is sweet ol Bandit who's just the biggest gem 🐕 and he is one of our HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS dogs! If you adopt Bandit before January 1, the adoption fee will be half-price! Bandit is 4-years-old and weighs 60 lb. We think he is a foxhound mix. Bandit is a very sweet dog who loves any kind of attention. His goofy ears are sure to catch anybody's attention. Bandit loves to put his paws up on your lap so that he can give your face kisses. He's a big dog that does not quite know his size but he's food motivated and ready to learn. He has already learned so much during his time at DAWS. Bandit is a people's dog and immediately loves anybody he meets. He would like to be in a home where he isn't alone for long hours. Although Bandit is an active boy who does like to play, he's just happy to be doing anything as long as it's with people. He likes meeting other dogs and playing with them, but he may be jealous of another dog in the home. Bandit would do best with teens and up. He loves car rides and outdoor adventures. ❤

This pretty girl is Tessa 🐕 She is 3-years-old and weighs 45 lb. She is what we call in rescue a "low rider", with shortish legs and a stocky body. We think Tessa is a lab/basset mix but whatever the breed, she is 100 % adorable! She has a wonderful personality to match her looks. Tessa is very sweet and has a friendly wiggle. She happily approaches any strangers looking to make new friends. She is very people oriented and would make a great family companion. Tessa is playful and should be great in a home with children of all ages. She has not shown much interest in other dogs so we think she would be fine as a solo dog. But she is dog friendly so no concerns with meeting other dogs. We are not sure what Tessa thinks of cats, but we can cat-test her if needed.

🐕 This is Doodlebug 🐕 She is 4-years-old and weighs just 20 lb. We think she is a terrier mix. Inside her kennel, Doodlebug is calm and quiet, but the second you get her out, she turns into a high energy little pup. Doodlebug loves to meet new people who she greets by licking their hands and then throwing her body at them for pets. She took immediately to toys and particularly loves to find the squeaker and is a big fan of fetch. Despite her small size, Doodlebug would love to have an active family to play and run around with. She would do great with children of all ages. She has shown mixed opinions on dogs that she has met, so an Introduction would be needed to make sure it’s the right fit. We don't know what Doodlebug thinks of cats but we can cat-test her if needed. ❤

🐕 This adorable pup is Ginger, Cider's sister! 🐕 She is 7-months-old and weighs 30 lb. We think she is a chocolate lab/pit mix and expect she will be about 45 lb full grown. Ginger is a very sweet puppy who would benefit from an experienced owner that's willing to work on training and obedience using positive reinforcement to help build her confidence. She is happy and social and loves kids. She seems afraid of cats and loves some dogs but not others. Ginger may need a little work on socialization but will be worth the effort! ❤

🐕This adorable pup is Cider🐕 She is 7-months-old and weighs 30 lb. We think she is a chocolate lab/pit mix and expect she will be about 45 lb full grown. Cider is a very sweet puppy who would benefit from an experienced owner that's willing to work on training and obedience using positive reinforcement to help build her confidence. She is happy to go up to people and put her front paws up on them to seek attention. Left alone, she does show some signs of distress like whining and crying, so she might be prone to some separation anxiety. This may improve when she settles into her forever home. Cider can be hesitant when meeting new dogs, so a slow introduction is recommended. Cider will be great in a home with dog savvy, children of all ages. We don't know what Cider thinks of cats, but can "cat-test" her if needed. ❤

🐕This adorable boy is Buzz🐕 He is one-year-old and weighs just 25 lb. We think he is a rat terrier mix. Just look at those ears!! Buzz is at a foster home, not at our shelter. His foster says " Buzz has been an easy dog to care for and love. He is friendly, gentle and already housetrained. Buzz enjoys being outside and walks well on a leash. He loves being with people, playing with his toys and having his tummy rubbed." Buzz is going to make someone a great companion! He is fine with other dogs and we can cat-test him if needed. ❤

🐕This lil fella is Mickey 🐕He was found locally and needs a new home asap. Mickey is estimated to be 3-years-old and he weighs just 13 lb. We think he may be a chihuahua/beagle mix. Mickey is a sweet but very shy and nervous little dog. He needs to take new experiences slowly and takes time to warm up to people, but does allow for handling. He will need a dog-savvy, patient owner and might appreciate a slower, quiet household where he can really decompress and start to come out of his shell. Mickey would do best with teens and up and seems more comfortable around smaller dogs versus large ones. We can cat-test him if needed but we expect he would be fine with a cat. If you have a big heart for dogs that need some TLC, please consider taking Mickey home. He will be so much happier out of the kennels. ❤

🐈 This adorable kitty is Chico 🐈 He is 3-years-old and weighs 7 lb. Chico has a soft light orange striped tabby coat. Chico was unable to stay in his home in Georgia, so he has traveled to DAWS to find a new family. His previous owner said Chico is a very cuddly and curious cat. He has interacted with children under the age of 4 and is good with cats and dogs. Chico is super sweet and loves pets and attention. And he loves salmon! Chico is ready to find his new forever home and will make someone a wonderful companion. ❤

🎀🐕This is Jasper and he is one of our HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS doggies! If you adopt Jasper before January 1, the adoption fee will be half-price! Jasper is one-year-old and with his scruffy muzzle, we expect has some terrier in him. Jasper weighs about 40 lb and is a very happy, friendly, playful pup. He loves attention and enjoys being active outside. Jasper knows how to sit when given a hand signal and is food/treat motivated and can learn easily. When interacting with him, Jasper is very wiggly, sweet and gives kisses. Jasper would make an amazing family dog and would do great with children of all ages. He would love to have an energetic dog friend to play with. We don't know what Jasper thinks of cats, but we can "cat-test" him if needed. Jasper would be great for someone looking for an active dog in a medium-sized package ❤
