Last night, about two hours after using my wallet at the gas station I discovered it was missing from my truck and after checking both vehicles and stopping back by the gas station to see if anything had been turned in, I realized I must have stupidly left it on the back of Danielle’s truck. With the odds of seeing a green wallet in uncut grass on the side of a highway at night being slim to none, I ran home and grabbed Cooper. Cooper has a bit of training in Lost Item Recovery and has his NASDA LIR-1 title so with nothing to lose, I put his harness on and we hit the side of Highway 82 tracking. Within just a few mins and just out of the gas station gravel parking lot, Cooper winded hard, veered right, and came out of the ditch with my wallet in his mouth. I literally cried as it had quite a bit of cash in it from being paid by clients this week and I am just sooooo fortunate to be this dog’s person ❤️

The Bestest Boy has officially gained ALL his weight back and is doing fabulous 🥰 he’s been battling a slight skin infection since returning home and we’ve almost knocked that out as well, just still a little itchy

We’ve been taking increasing amounts of socialization trips and slowly easing back into Retrieving 🦆

Last night Cooper headed down to the local ball field to support his “Auntie’s” kiddos at their game

He did better with the crowd and noise than anticipated, made new friends, shared a hot dog, and was very upset he wasn’t allowed on the field to fetch the baseballs flying everywhere 😂

We kept our visit fairly short, so it wouldn’t be overwhelming to him, as right now all training is geared towards boosting his confidence and re conditioning him to social situations that were previously non issues

Morning Yoga for Cooper 🤣

Cooper finished his prescription diet and medication yesterday and is back to a normal, all kibble diet as of this morning. Of course he still needs the occasional Pup Cup and treats, which he’s also getting plenty of 🙂

Just shy of one week home and Cooper has gained a considerable amount of weight, his small wounds are healed, all ticks have been removed, and his energy level is on the upswing

Behavior wise, Cooper has retained all of his training and preformed each requested task (walking politely on leash, placed on the scale for weigh in, sit & stay, load in the truck, wait at the door) since we arrived at the vet on his initial day of discovery. He has retained his house manners, having only one accident inside on the second night home, and is still loving and playful with my other dogs. He does now seem to have some reservations towards strangers, and isn’t as outwardly friendly as he once was but that’s ok and something we will slowly work on over time

All things considered, he is doing fabulous and is still the Bestest Boy ❤️

WE ARE HOME !!! ❤️❤️❤️

After Cooper was recovered this morning we headed straight to the Vet. He’s lost 19 lbs but his bloodwork was normal and he was given a clean bill of health with the exception of being skinny. He’s on a bland prescription diet for about a week, multiple small meals per day

A close by neighbor called Monday afternoon and reported seeing a skinny black Lab with a brown collar. We quickly rode over and checked but saw nothing, drove and searched for about an hour. Yesterday afternoon we rode back over and spotted the dog at the edge of a field, near a brush pile. I immediately knew it was Cooper but he was so scared he could not recognize it was me and bolted into the woods. We returned later with a coyote trap and baited it with smelly canned food & treats, along with a cellular game camera, and laid out several articles of my clothing nearby. We watched him on camera until after midnight and through 2 trap failings, at which point he disappeared to bed down for the night. This morning I went in to refresh the food and spotted Cooper again, and he again bolted. I sat down for about half a hour, as he would pop in and out of the wood line, but bolted every time I spoke or moved slightly. I backed out and came home for a bit, then went back over. This time he had calmed down enough to smell the clothes and scent trails and knew it was me. He came trotting straight as an arrow to the truck, my window was down so I extended my hand to him, and he laid his head in my hand. I scratched his head and praised him, eased my door open, and he hopped right into my lap and began licking my face 😭

I can not believe he’s home, he’s ok, and we are reunited. I am soooooo thankful for all of the prayers, well wishes, shares, comments, thoughts, and every single little thing that brought this Bestest Boy home

He have some great news! COOPER HAS BEEN FOUND!!! Kayla spotted him in her area and after a long 48 hours, Cooper is home! Thank you so much to EVERYONE who has taken time out of their busy lives to help Kayla look for him!

We received a call tonight regarding a male black Lab found with 2 females and unfortunately he is NOT Cooper. But there is contact information on the collar so we’re taking these pups to their home ❤️

As the weekend approaches I miss this boy so, so very much as he was entered to compete in our kennel club’s local event 💔 Cooper LOVES these events, traveling and spending time with our friends & family from out of town

Please, if you have Cooper, let him come home !! He has an AMAZING life and we miss him SO SO VERY MUCH. NO QUESTIONS ASKED for his safe return !!

The past few days we have spread more flyers out to cover Prattville & Selma. We sorted through a few dozen new photos but none are Cooper. No reliable sightings. We have contacted a drone company that specializes in lost pet recovery and are waiting to hear more information from their company

More flyers went up today at various stores along Hwy 82 from the outskirts of Prattville all the way to Centreville and a few CR along that route

We had a few photos sent in that we sorted through as Not Cooper 😞 and have done our best to catch up on messages and responses as we continued to chase a few local leads and reached out to a few Labrador Rescue Groups

We also greatly expanded the search around the Brierfield area yesterday and today, as this is the area we moved from in December. We’ve been driving the route every other day but the past two days we covered multiple CR’s in Bibb & Chilton & Shelby counties and Hwy 25 to Centreville

Tomorrow is a new day 🤞🏼

Recap of yesterday with the Tracking Dogs… both dogs definitely worked odor and we found dog prints and sign in a few areas but nothing definitive as 100% Cooper

The scent now being ten days old and multiple storms, etc are definitely affecting things and both tracking dogs began to tire and become frustrated. However they did help us eliminate two spots we were unsure of and that is definitely helpful

We appreciate the effort of their team sooooo much, as well as everyone continuing to call and give us leads and sightings. We will meet every black Lab in Alabama if it means bringing Cooper home !!!

We had a potential sighting this morning right off Chilton CR-7 but we have driven out and confirmed this is not Cooper

We will be riding our now daily local loop this evening and also back up towards our old address in Brierfield. Snick has been accompanying our searches, as lost & frightened dogs will often come to another dog they know over a person and Cooper absolutely knows Snick as part of his pack

Another late night as we just returned from driving out to Wetumpka to meet a male black Labrador that had been recovered from walking the roads. Unfortunately it was NOT Cooper 😞

We have been able to confirm the dog spotted this morning on Hwy 82 is not Cooper

We are still in the woods working with the tracking dogs so service is spotty but nothing definitive yet

We hit the ground at 9 AM with a tracking dog team, checking two potential sightings… “Merc” is trained to be scent specific, meaning she can clear an area as negative for Cooper’s scent as well as follow his track if we cross it. She is working off scent articles we made from using the oil & hair in Cooper’s crate that we have kept isolated and wrapped to preserve scent

We are working properties on Autauga CR-24 and Chilton CR-37 today (both fields have game cameras that have photographed black Labradors). Merc’s teammate will arrive this afternoon to assist and we will be heading back over to the CR-21 area

We had a potential sighting on Hwy 82 mid morning, about 3-5 miles north of the Country Mart but we were not able to locate the dog once arriving. We drove that section of road back and forth for some time. There is also a possible lead over in the Thorsby area but we were unable to locate that dog as well

We will revisit both areas this evening, please keep an eye out !!!

Unfortunately the dog we drove down to meet in Prattville today was NOT Cooper 😞

We checked Prattville & Montgomery & Elmore & Shelby County shelters in person… no Cooper

We received three calls regarding a black Lab near the Bus Shop outside of Clanton, we verified this was not Cooper

And we rode even more Chilton & Autauga county roads hoping for a sighting but nothing

The Tracking dog team will arrive in the morning and we will start a new day

We have a received a couple messages this morning about a black Lab in the median of I-65 around the 186 exit (Pine Level) and we have sent someone to check this lead and get whoever’s pup it is off the interstate ❤️

Another 11 PM night searching for Cooper….

Late this evening we received a game camera photo of a black Lab crossing greenfield in Chilton Co along CR-37, so we drove out to check that area. We did not see anything but marked the spot to return with the tracking dog team on Saturday

On our way home we received a call from a Good Samaritan in Prattville that found a male black Lab two days ago. His collar does not match Cooper’s collar but, as that can be easily changed, we will be stopping to meet him in person tomorrow for a microchip scan on our way to visit the Prattville & Montgomery Shelters as well

Fingers crossed tomorrow is the day 🤞🏼

One Week…. When I think of this I can’t breathe. I hope with all my heart you are safe somewhere and waiting to be found ❤️

No real updates today. We checked three leads, none were Cooper. Nothing has touched the food at the crate, nothing on any cameras in the area. I drove back to Brierfield today, I drove more Autauga county dirt roads today, I cried more today

Another tracking team is coming Saturday, I will begin making scent articles tomorrow and we’re setting up another crate & feeding station in the woods on CR-34, just by the chance he may be somewhere closer to home. It’s such a long shot but I feel like I have to do something, anything

Cooper has never been away from me further than 100 yards, he knows nothing of stray dogs or unfriendly land owners or vehicles. He’s a lost pup trying his best to return to what he knows and loves

PLEASE continue to look for my Bestest Boy. If you know ANYTHING please share, message us, anything to bring this incredibly special dog home

We chased down five different leads today but none of them were Cooper 😞

Refreshed food & swapped clothing out at the crate spot and double checked the camera setup, it is working but nothing came by during the night

We drove various roads in Autauga & Chilton Co today for about four hours combined, put more fliers out in the towns of Thorsby & Jemison & the I-65 208 exit and a friend covered Maplesville

We expanded out to CR-443 with our daily drive route and placed fliers in that area as well
