Here we go again. Almost exactly 1 month later Sparky is once again spiking a fever of over 105. , swelling and heat in his leg with neurological issues . Repeating 3 days of IV doxi, banamine / bute for the fever followed by this time an extended period of oral antibiotics. Cornell has no idea why this is occurring bloodwork shows high levels of infection. Hopefully this longer dose of oral antibiotics will keep this from recurring a third time . Our next and only other option is a trip to Cornell equine hospital for very expensive diagnostics.

Look at those beautiful eyes! UNO has the beginnings of a much need shaving today . Grooming definitely not anything he is familiar with . Typical puppy , very wiggly, and a bit mouthy ( but never attempted to bite ). He is a sweet boy that loves attention , belly rubs and to show you how well he knows the command sit ! He needs to learn the basics but has a great personality and with time will be an amazing devoted dog . We are hoping to find him a forever home as soon as possible too many changes for a young puppy is so unfair ….please message us if you are interested in meeting this great boy to add to you fur family !

This was a first here at Willowswings ….. this is Uno the dog we courtesy posted a few days ago searching for a home . We were contacted by the person that was helping place him originally saying that he was adopted so I updated the post and was happy he had found a forever home. Less than an hour later, I got a call saying the dog was misrepresented and not a good fit for the potential adopter as it was originally thought that he weighed approximately 10 pounds and not the actual 20 pounds that he does weigh. So rather than sending him back to a very deplorable environment where he was basically living outside, (which is very obvious by the extreme matting which has prickle / burrs that are embedded ) we agreed to take him . He is very sweet and his fur is so soft . We will attempt to shave out the fur mats tomorrow and I’m sure he will feel so much better . His name is Uno …7 month old Aussie / sh*tzu. He will be vaccinated and neutered as part of his adoption. Please share so we can find this sweet boy a home. Appears to be great with other dogs and people of all sizes. Will cat test him tomorrow. Please fill out our adoption application if you have room in your home and heart for this young sweet boy . We were told he is mostly housebroken but has no idea about a leash but definitely knows sit especially when there is a treat involved . ( as you can see by these cute photos )?..You can message us for more information. See comments for short video of his arrival .

Tippy was very brave and made a new friend yesterday!
Tippy is not available for adopt at this time as he has just begun his vaccinations. These vaccinations need to be given individually and spread apart due to his compromised immune system.

Please take this seriously:
Please please understand that when we give instructions/advice, there’s a reason behind every word. If you find injured, orphaned, or sick wildlife, do not handle/pet. Do not feed. Do not give water. If you have the animal contained, put it in a ventilated box/container and keep it in a dark quiet area away from pets and people. Then reach out for help. Don’t do anything else unless instructed to do so by a rehabber…not your neighbor, not Google, or someone who raised a chipmunk once, but a rehabber or wildlife professional.

Today someone who reached out to GWN for help with a rabies vector species was bitten by the animal. It seemed docile so he reached in to place a bowl of water in the crate and it bit him. GWN had to contact environmental health and the animal was picked up by animal control. It will be euthanized and sent off for rabies testing. If it is positive, the person will go through a series of expensive shots. This is protocol for any RVS animal that bites someone, whether it is exhibiting any symptoms or not.

Do NOT touch a rabies vector species without gloves!! The most common animals to carry rabies are bats, raccoons, skunks, & foxes but this doesn’t mean they all have rabies. All animals can carry mites, fleas, & diseases so wear gloves anyway. And unless you are actually Snow White, a wild animal that approaches you needs help. Proceed with caution and follow the advice of wildlife professionals.

Facts: Putting water in a birds mouth can literally cause them to choke to death. Not all birds eat worms. Domesticating a fawn by bringing it in your home to “help it” is a death sentence. If you give a baby squirrel or bunny the wrong kind of milk, you can make it so ill that it will take days for a rehabber to stabilize. Baby opossums do not suckle; they are attached to a feeding tube inside their mom so you can’t feed with a bottle. Some animals require rehydration before they can be fed. Turtles live in a 1 mile radius their entire lives. Baby birds can get food lodged in their throat and suffocate. If you use the wrong kind of syringe/nipple and feed a baby animal too fast or too much, it will aspirate and die. Ducklings can drown. You cannot judge if it’s a venomous snake by its head or pupil shape. The animal that you just found doesn’t “like you”, he’s in shock and afraid to move. Baby animals can’t have breast milk. Everything we tell you is for a reason.

If you’re still reading this, thank you. Today was a scary day. We hope our human friend has a clean bill of health. We ❤️ our wildlife and we ❤️ our wildlife loving humans. Today’s incident was avoidable. This post isn’t to criticize; it’s to teach someone who may not know so we can avoid another incident tomorrow.

Photo is of another raccoon who also sadly had to be euthanized last week. 😞 This work really sucks some days.

COURTESY POST…. Thor and Kara (meaning night in Turkish)
Are 2.5 year old Labrador Retrievers from Turkey. They are both neutered and chipped.

The current political climate in Turkey is not an ideal situation for these former street animals. They have been living indoors for the past 8 months with my friend. Thor has a yellow coat and weighs about 70lbs. Thor was mistakenly shot with buckshot in August. He had some embedded in his skin and 3 small ones remain inside. The vet thought they might eventually work themselves out. I have copies of the x-rays. And despite this he is a gentle giant who keeps an eye out for his brother Kara. They are bonded.
He plays well with other dogs, house trained, just wants to be loved.
Kara has a dark coat with a lighter under belly and white speckled paws.
We suspect he was bit by a snake or a scorpion about a month ago before coming over. He weighs anout 60lbs. Underweight due to his recovery. Searching for a lifetime safe home for these very special bonded pair . Please message for contact information…..
