We couldn’t finish out this appreciation week without including our amazing veterinary assistant, Kellie. She joined the team 4 years ago and has been our secret weapon, a jack of all trades. Certified in grooming, amazing with blood draws and restraining, and helps keep the lab running smoothly to get test results fast. We all love her and the cats do too 😸🐾

Rachael is our next licensed technician featured this week. Pictured with Tw***ie, whom she adopted as an adult. She joined our family 4 years ago and we could not be happier. She has grown into her role and has become a wonderful addition to our practice family. She is patient and kind. The kitties and clients love her gentle manner and dedication. We are grateful to have her help in caring for our special furry patients!

Tabby fun fact: tabbies are not actual a breed, but the name is a way to describe the unique markings on their coats. A tabby cat refers to a category of cats.

Dr. Houlihan’s cat, Percy, has unwittingly become the face of a PSA on wasp stings!

Poor Percy was minding his own business, both him and his family unaware of a wasp that had gotten in the house. Wasp stings are often the result of a playful kitty batting around some prey, but can also happen very fast, sometimes unprovoked, and not just to kitties who go outdoors.

With that in mind, this sweet (but very swollen) little face would like to remind everyone of a couple of important things to know if your kitty happens to get stung.

Here are some signs that your cat may have been stung by a bee or wasp:

Redness of the skin
Itchiness – moderate to severe
Swelling of the eyes, mouth, neck, paws, etc
Hives/welts on the skin

And some more severe signs to especially watch out for:

Disorientation or stumbling
Vomiting or diarrhea
Pale gums
Low body temperature and cold limbs
A heart rate that's either too slow or too fast

It is important to get medication to your kitty fairly quickly to lessen the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Percy got the medication he needed shortly after getting stung, and made a full recovery before he knew it!

Please don’t hesitate to call us if you believe your cat may have been stung, and we will be happy to help!

3 kittens available for adoption!!! 1 black male and 2 tabby girls! Lighter tabby girl is more social than darker tabby girl, darker tabby girl more shy will need more time and patience but she is a sweet heart when she realizes all is okay! Lighter tabby girl is coming around and enjoying her toys, she loves to snuggle with her brother! Black male is absolutely perfect! He is social, lovey dovey, plays with toys and is going to be the best addition to someone’s family! He will be a long boy as he has some tall little legs!
