Starting to get everything ready for the puppies arrival!! With our first mama Duchess due this Saturday, it is never too early to start preparing!! Also with Ally due only 3 days after duchess we may end up having both litters born on the same day 😅 so double of everything is a must in cases like this!!

Fun Fact Friday!!!
Did you know that German Shepherds are a double coated breed?? That mean their fur is made to keep the cool in the summer and warm in the winter!! Having double coats also means they shed their fur 2 times a year usually lasting 6 months each time lol 🤣🤣🤣

Fun Fact Friday!!!!

Did you know German Shepherds can be Pandas??!! The panda markings in German Shepherds is due to a mutation in the KIT gene.

Panda is a dominant gene and one parent must be a panda to have panda puppies! It is also a lethal gene meaning if you breed a panda to another panda the puppies won’t develop fully and pass.

There are other “panda” (panda type 2) German shepherds that the markings are from another gene that is not the kit gene. However not enough testing has been done on the specific gene to know what is expressing the pattern. The only panda gene that this far has been fully tested and determined is that of the KIT gene and was first produced with Lewcinka's Franka von Phenom.

Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that German Shepherds come in Solid Black?? The solid black in German shepherds can be expressed by either a dominant gene or recessive genes!

The dominant gene would be located on the K locus and it only takes one copy of the gene for the dog to be solid black.

The recessive gene would be located on the A locus and the dog would need 2 copies of the gene to be solid black.

Just like the white gene the solid black does not affect the health of the shepherds! It is just another beautiful color of the breed that we can enjoy!!

2024 has been a great year and I am so blessed to have met so many wonderful people and share with them the love I have for this amazing breed!
